Regarding Hermione and Professor Trelawney, the fact is that Hermione was simply not good at Divination and it infuriated her that she wasn’t. Divination is basically foretelling the future, those that can do that are known as seers. You have to be born with “the sight”. You know, not just anybody can be see into the future, I don’t even believe it’s anything you can learn. It’s a magical ability that you have to be born with to be able to see into the future. Hermione is not a seer, she wasn’t born with the ability (as many other students). This made Hermione upset because she is always good in every class, except Divination, and Trelawney knew this. She knew Hermione did not possess the sight. That’s why Hermione was always frustrated in her class. For example, when you do a math problem, there is only one answer. So, you either get the problem right or wrong, it’s very precise; Divination is not a precise branch of magic, it’s a bunch of “maybe this” or “possibly that”. In regards to the time turner, Hermione was not taking classes twice, she would never cheat her way through her classes. There are seven core subjects at Hogwarts: Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration. Students beginning their third year also have to take an additional two (or more) elective classes from the following: Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, and Muggle Studies. Well, with Hermione being a top student, very overachieving, she decided to take ALL of the classes (which very few students do because of the overload of coursework). Many of these classes occur at the same time, so Hermione was given special permission from the Ministry of Magic to obtain a time turner device so she could take all the classes. Professor McGonagall had to write to the Ministry for permission as the Ministry regulates the use of time turner devices. So basically, Hermione would attend one class then reverse time to go to another class she missed. All of those times it showed her in class, her “other self” was actually in another class. At the end of their third year, Hermione actually dropped Divination and Muggle Studies, making her coursework and schedule a little easier.

Growing up and watching the films, I've always thought it was HP4 and after when the series/storylines "grew up". For example, I remember when I saw HP4 when it was in theaters and thought, "omg this is the first time I'm seriously scared of this series" LOL

When they say that a person “elects” to be an animagus, that means that they have the approval from the ministry of magic to turn into an animal of their choosing at will. Technically speaking, anyone can turn into any animal they want to, although it’s implied to be significantly easier to turn into their spirit animals. Being an animagus requires an extraordinary amount of magical potential so only very powerful witches and wizards can do this. When they say a person “elects to become an animal”, they’re saying that the person has gotten approval by ministry of magic to turn into their animal at will, a task that’s not easy as Ministry of Magic is notoriously stingy. Therefore, it is strongly implied that Serius Black and Peter Pettigrew have both used animagus magic illegally.

She never cheated, she loved education so much that McGonagall allowed her to use it so she could learn more. Dumbledore would never have given it to her for this purpose unless he trusted her completely. You can understand better why this happens in the books.

These moments are why I love movies and powerful stories. A good, emotional story, no matter the age group, can remind us of our own lives. Truthfully, when you tear up I tear up almost every time because I feel your pain and the beauty of words that Characters like Sirius or Dumbledore share. 2022-04-23 05:13:43 +0000 UTCSirius is such a great character. It's especially wonderful since, before this, Gary Oldman almost always played bad guys, often twisted and truly awful ones. It's so satisfying to discover that he's good and noble-hearted. And Oldman plays him with such a heroic and dashing style (if this was an old-time Hollywood movie, I see him being played by Errol Flynn) that when he flies off at the end on Buckbeak, you believe he's a genuinely Great Man.

She's got it!" In Hermione's defense, she wasn't using the time-turner to go to classes more than once. She was using it so she could go to different classes that were scheduled at the same time.

Hermione, I think, was meant to only use the timeturner to take on some extra classes (she never would have been able to take both Divination and Ancient Runes because they occur at the same time. I'm sure other students would have been able had they been as studious as Hermione.

2022-04-23 00:18:52 +0000 UTCRegarding the Time-Turner (the time machine necklace), Hermione was only given it with special permission from the Ministry by Prof. McGonagall for this year because she wanted to take ALL of the classes and some of them happen at the same time, so she's increasing her workload by choice. By the end of the year, she drops two classes and has a normal schedule again so she gives back the Time-Turner.

Just thought I'd mention that Hermione was given the timepiece so that she could study more subjects. She's so intelligent and eager for knowledge she took on all the extra classes. 2022-04-22 16:37:09 +0000 UTC**Important info not given in the movies: Remus, Sirius, James, and Peter were all best friends when they were at Hogwarts. The other boys figured out that Remus was a werewolf, and they all became anamagi (plural of animagus) in order to keep him company every month at the full moon. Peter became a rat, Sirius became a dog, and James became a stag (deer). The four of them would roam all over Hogwarts and the grounds, and so they gave themselves the name of "The Marauders". During this time they were able to discover all the secret entrances to the castle, and so they made the Marauders' Map, using their nicknames that had to do with their animal form; Remus was Moony, Peter was Wormtail, Sirius was Padfoot and James was Prongs. McGonagall is also an animagus, she turns into a cat. In the books, her cat form has stripes around her eyes that are in the same shape as her glasses. All animagi are supposed to register with the Ministry of Magic with a full desription of what their animal form looks like, but the Marauders being the trouble-makers they were (plus being underage wizards), they never registered. That's why, when Peter Pettigrew betrayed James & Lily's location to Voldemort, cut off his own finger and faked his death by turning into a rat (framing Sirius for the whole thing), no one in the Ministry suspected anything because they never knew he was an animagus in the first place. The movies cut out *so much* but I never realized how important the information was until a non-book reader asked me how Lupin knew how to read the Marauders' Map - that's when I realized the movie never explained that he was one of the people who made it!

2022-04-22 16:29:52 +0000 UTCRemus Lupin's name was a clue to him being a werewolf (which is why they didn't tell you his first name earlier in the movie) - Remus and Romulus, the twins in Roman mythology who were suckled by a she-wolf when they were babies. Also his last name is a clue - the Latin name for wolf is Lupa.

The idea of a Chimera (a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a tail that ends in a snake head) goes back to ~670 BC. Fluffy, the three-headed dog from Philospher's Stone is also a reference to Cerberus, the three-headed dog who guards the gates of the Underworld; he was first described in the 8th century BC. And of course, the centaur that saves Harry in the Forbidden Forest - centaurs are probably the most well-known creatures from Greek mythology. The earliest known sculpture of a centaur goes back to almost 1000 BC, and they still show up in fantasy stories to this day. There are also several storylines that show religious symbolism, but I can't go into all that quite yet for fear of spoilers.
