Whoever that white 'actor' was, he obviously must have been a simpleton and clearly in the wrong job - If he had to have a co-star inform him that the script isn't his own spontaneous dialogue and the outlooks, opinions and prejudices of the fictional character he was portraying, may not necessarily reflect his own - I don't think I've ever heard of a more ludicrous tale of mindblowing idiocy.

Also, a bit of trivia: one of the main white actors didn't want to use the N word. He was very uncomfortable using it. So the man playing the Sheriff took him aside and explained that it was just a word in the script, that he (a black man) knew the other man wasn't really racist.

You got it exactly. Mel Brooks (Jewish and the director, writer, music writer, and played the Governor and Chief Indian) wanted to show how stupid racists and racism is. So, every stupid character was the racists. The smart, normal, caring characters were the non-racists. Mel wanted to fight racism by making fun of racists.
