I haven't been a Red Hat fan, even before the IBM purchase. I have been working with RH professionally for a while now in the embedded world. I understand that they contribute to upstream development, but honestly they have been pretty parasitic to the Linux community. After the purchase by IBM, they moved from veiled motives to an overtly anti-FOSS direction. In a way, I hope that the moves to restrict their source code really come back to haunt them... maybe cost them a whole lot in revenue. That would be appropriate given their behavior. I jnust don't want it to blow back on the Linux world as a whole.

From my understanding Rust Crates are just packages which can contain libraries. This comes from calling their package manager Cargo. This is like pip for Python or npm for JavaScript. So no sandboxing or containerisation.
