It could be an interesting topic, yeah!

The Linux Experiment

I would like to know more about that as well: how did they collect this feedback, and filter it in order to see if it was really interesting, or just a vocal minority. Still, it's good to see them offer HoloISO as an option, at least it means it's well supported :)

The Linux Experiment

It's a good thing that the EU is pushing big corporation to stop anti-competitive practices, we don't need monopolies. Sometimes I want to buy an iphone since apple supports them for so long, but in the end I stuck with android because it tends to be more friendly with open source projects than Apple. I thought that iOs being forced to allow third party app stores would bring more open source software to iphones, but seeing that they impose so many Apple taxes on everything for developers, I'm not convinced that open source projects will be able to launch their apps on iphones like they can on Android. Nick, since I know that you use an iPhone, I'd be interested to hear you talk about your experience with it, how you use it with Linux and your thoughts about it as a Linux and privacy enthusiast. Maybe you could talk about your views on Android and smartphones in general too? Could probably make for an interesting topic for a patreoncast 🙂.

UsernamesAreHard

I'd kind of like to know more about what kind of feedback they got. Whether it was based on old conceptions of Linux being bad for gaming, wanting what's old and familiar, wanting involvement with the Microsoft ecosystem eg xcloud, or ye old big multiplayer anticheat incompatibility. It's disappointing, but offering HoloISO as an option at checkout is still a step up to a user needing to go out of their way to install it. And I wonder if they'd offer a discount on the HoloISO version because free is cheaper than a license and show that benefit to consumers, or if a contract / desire for good relations / desire for more margin would keep both versions at the same price. It'd all be interesting for its own sake IMO, and as a case study of what pain points can be addressed.
