A small update
Added 2019-06-17 13:38:41 +0000 UTCHey guys !
Here is a small update on what I've been up to !
Hardware and Software
First things first, I got an RTX 2060. I wanted to try my hand at Davinci Resolve (not to replace Kdenlive, which I love most days, but to see what the fuss was about), and I just could not get it to work on my RX580.
It worked like a charm on the new card, so I might do a few videos at some point on how to use it, and how it compares with Kdenlive, once I have had the occasion to really try it out.
Ok, I'll also admit my 1440p gaming proved a bit much for the RX580, and the RTX 2060 handles it a lot better.

Installing the card was pretty easy: all I had to do was download the driver in Manjaro's dedicated app, and reboot, and it was done. My system had plenty of cruft I had accumulated though, from many opencl versions, to apps I wasn't using, so I decided to reinstall, and try elementary OS again.
Let's just say it didn't go smoothly ! elementary is based on Ubuntu 18.04, and does NOT like the RTX by default. The Nouveau driver included in their older kernel has no clue what card this is, and I had to use an extremely small resolution to try and add a PPA to get the proprietary drivers.
Even after installing those, resolution was extremely unstable, changing back after a reboot, so I decided to let it go, and reinstall Manjaro GNOME, which worked well out of the box.
The Channel
The channel has almost reached 25K subscribers, which is awesome ! I never thought it would go that far even after a few years, let alone in a year and 3 months !

Sooooo close.
To add to the awesomeness of the situation, I've been approached by Linode, a cool company which offers Linux-based servers, for a sponsoring deal.
The first of these sponsored videos is already live, it's the KDE 5.16 tour, we'll see how it goes and if it brings them any business !
What's Next ?
This week will see the return of the Kdenlive tutorials (finally !). I've been slacking off on these, so on wednesday or thursday, I'll publish a new one, covering some of the effects I use the most: Transform, Blur, Rotate, Crop, as well as saving some effect presets to re-use them later.
That should explain most of the "advanced" tricks I use to make my videos, then we'll probably move on to color grading in the next one.
At the end of the week, I'll work on another video, I just don't know what to do yet: either a tour of Enso OS, a smaller distro based on XFCE, and mixing it up with some pieces of elementary OS (that would make a good introduction to XFCE), or I could go for a more "vanilla" XFCE experience. in this case: which distro would you recommend I try ?
To conclude the month of June, there'll be another still undetermined video, and the usual Linux News Recap for June !
Of course, I also started working on the next Patreon Vlog, so stay tuned for that :)
That's it for this update, as always, don't forget you can submit your video ideashere (no tracking, no personal info required) : https://zfrmz.com/mm46OFOEBRTks5nuzvmU
Bye !
