Added 2022-04-11 04:00:04 +0000 UTCThis is the first Sunday strip I ever drew for Crabgrass and it remains one of the more artistically ambitious to date. If I never draw another stadium full of people it'll be too soon. Seriously, how did anyone draw anything before google images?
You may be wondering if we actually played football in the middle of the streets when I was young. The answer is also-freaking-lutely. Could we have played in a backyard or an open field? Sure. But dodging traffic added an element of danger that made it feel more like the real thing!

We played front-yard-football with a Hoppity-Hop for the ball - which you were allowed to defend yourself with.

2022-04-11 23:39:42 +0000 UTCWe also used to live in a cul-de-sac and we would use it to play baseball. Our front yard was used for everything else, like soccer and football, since it was large and flat.

2022-04-11 15:09:30 +0000 UTCMy parents worked long hours (dad: firefighter workers 24 hour shifts, mom: nurse, worked long shifts), so we spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ house a few blocks over. Which worked out great, because she lived on a cul-de-sac and next to a kid around the same age as me and my brother. No crazy drivers and everyone knew kids were out there in the summer. Ice cream truck knew where to hit for an easy sell and even the mailman used to bring gum for us.
