In Downton Abby the head cook is referred ti as Mrs. This was a honorific true to the times in the UK. This applied to the great houses. I am unsure if it held in households of more modest means. In my less than great but comfortable home the cook is referred to as to Steve aka honey, babe, and what's for dinner? I am blessed to have married a hobby cook. I do the clean up with gratitude.
