I appreciate you bringing it up in context. It happened to me and it's not something I'd ever do to future generations. But it adds a certain authenticity to the strip and story.

Twice so far. The strips were pretty early ones.

Totally fair! It's hard sometimes to properly decipher intent in cases like this, so thanks for clarifying π
Been following your work since Jamal, so I know you're not afraid to bring serious topics into the comics.

It is. And trust me Iβm aware of the touchiness of the subject. Itβs not meant to be STRICTLY funny. A lot of Crabgrass is meant to sort of subvert the ideas of the Good Old Days. We like to remember the freedom of being a child in this era but gloss over the way we played outside all day because our parents felt they had more important things to do than keep an eye on us. We brag that we didnβt need all the protective gear when we played but forget all the horror stories of children being injured that necessitated the gear kids wear now. Spanking is one of those relics that we tend to overlook and that I try to hold a mirror to.

I know this strip takes place in the past when it was more commonly accepted to do so, but I'll never be comfortable with parents beating their kids. Abuse as a punchline is... iffy.
