The deleted AI video + intro

No more controversial topics from me 😓

This video gave me goosebumps, not your first video that did this by the way.... So well made. 💟

Ral Colors

Thank you :) To put it short I did a couple of things wrong, among them the order of the story. I should have started with the ethical problems.. Though I doubt if it would have made much of a difference. By the way, about wind turbines, they placed big ones 500 meters from our homes and since then I got roller blinds to prevent seeing those things move in the corner of my eyes... So you make a good point there too. (And I'll never make a video about it 😅)

Posy

New patreon sub from your amazing motion extraction video, another amazing piece of artistry and satire, unfortunately most people do not get satire. Please do not let the negativity get you down man, there are many of us who do get satire and appreciate what you created. I do understand the backlash, as most people these day lack critical thinking skills ergo why many are falling into the traps of misinformation and disinformation then utlimately into cults like Qanon. I do fear that instead of approaching things critically and conversing we are approaching an era of undiplomatic tribalism over the most mundane and trivial matters as opposed to collective action against things like climate change. In regards to ai, what is needed is moral and ethical regulation of use and implementation to ensure it's used for betterment of all people. Like any tool, it matters how it is used and governed. Like with any technological advancements there are always backlash, take the mechanical looms for threads for example. The current day example of malicious governance is Wind Turbines, it's not widely known that the ban on Wind Turbines was in place by the previous Tory government in the UK. Thus robbing people of cheap electricity and drastically hurting the environment due to the prolonged use of fossil fuels. Had the government not banned Wind Turbines the UK would have substantial capacity for cheaper energy. The moral and ethical governance / regulation would have been to not ban Wind Turbines in the first place, subsidised job creation and the industry like how they are subsidising the fossil fuel industry. Now, the wind turbines, if they are placed in a retarded location say in the middle of a city street, they'd cause more harm than good. So as a tool it's being misused. Placed in a windy location that doesn't hamper any one, it's being used properly - although the compromise would be in some scenarios obstruction of views. Regulation is needed to prevent habit loss and construction in unstable areas such as areas with sink holes etc. Going back to ai generation of content, the malicious side of that tool is deep fakes, misinformation and disinformation. The moral and ethical side? is simply aiding creation as a workflow tool. The grey area? Is people passing off fully ai generated content as their own work without stating it's fully ai generated. Thus the question - how to distinguish between completely ai generated content and partially ai generated content. Which is why you had created those two logos in the first place. As I said, many of us understand and get what you are trying to do and we truly appreciate your efforts. Even more so since generative ai is never going to go away no matter hard people try to become metaphorical ostriches with their craniums buried in the sand.

Im so sad you deleted this video! I really wanted to share it with my friends and now i cant :( i love this stuff!! You really shouldnt let this negativity influence you like this. Do whatever the fuck you want man

Filip Z

Yeah, it really is a mess.. And it's really the accessibility, speed, and EASE of A.I tools that makes it so hard to control! For every 1 scam account they block, 20 more take it's place. Like some weird subscription based hydra! It's all happening SO fast! It's SUCH a fascinating field, and I want A.i to thrive, and be the tool that gives everyone the time and resources to make the world a better place. We just need some comprehensive laws and guardrails in place to de-claw it and protect people from it's abuse. (And also HUGE global socialized safety nets so less people are desperate enough to resort to scamming in the first place!) Regardless, I just want to drive home the point, that your usage of A.I on this album, is just about the most wholesome, genuinely creative, and FUN usage I've seen yet. "Arrival" has been on repeat, rattling around my head for days! :D Thank you for this absolute banger of an album, I can't get enough of it. <3

Jesse's Heckin' Tech

Thank you for your insight! I believe that any technology in existence people have tried to use for evil. But the misuse of AI seems to be more prominent than I thought. And I wasn't aware that platforms like Facebook apparently do not have this under control.

Posy

Keep making what you want to make, not what the internet wants you to make. I’m paying for that raw creativey coming right out of your amazing brain

Ben Zenker

Man, I am so deeply sorry this has caused you any heartache. You're a brilliant, creative, passionate person, and this album ABSOLUTELY SLAPS. <3 People are (mostly justifiably) hating on A.i, because: While yes, it can be a remarkable tool to be used in so many incredible ways, the current political and economic structures of our planet, make it an extremely dangerous tool, rife with theft, exploitation, blatant misinformation, political discourse, and of course, the immediate devaluation of already struggling artists. A lot of the western world is a lot more entrenched in cut-throat capitalism, especially the States, where a doctors visit could easily become thousands of dollars, so MANY people just don't go, because they're living paycheck to paycheck. The cost of living is skyrocketing, housing is being soaked up by investment firms, and they've pushed the housing market to around 3x the price of what things were just 10 years ago. Artists are already deeply undervalued here, I know some incredibly skilled people, who've been with Disney, EA Games, Ubisoft, and loads of other creative studios. The turnover, the layoffs, the brutal working conditions, departments spending evenings and weekends, napping under their desks, working unbelievable hours, then after their Movie, Game, TV show, etc winning awards and making record profits, suddenly the entire staff are let go and have to find new jobs? and with that, goes any medical coverage? It's heartbreaking. And now, with A.i, soulless executives, or morally dubious tech dweebs are using a tool to strip the essence of talent from people who have poured their entire lives in to their craft. (And the ABUNDANCE of it on facebook, twitter, etc, is sickening.. Just now scrolling facebook, of 20 posts, 9 of them were A.i generated imagery. Just walls of misinformation, downright lies, slander, political manipulation, and the number of people who can't even TELL it's A.i, is deeply terrifying.) I am torn. I love the potential of A.i, and it was a lot of fun to play with! It can be incredibly inspirational, it can speed up many things! and I'm very much of the mindset that everything should be shared! Everyone should have access to the wealth of human ingenuity and creativity! BUT. This is absolutely incompatible with capitalism, and currently, is largely being used to strip the power away from the working class artists. It's not hypothetical, artists ARE being replaced by text prompts, because most soulless executives don't care how "Good" the art is. they only care how CHEAP it is. Human cost be damned. I could rant against capitalism ALL DAY, lordy. All that said, I LOVE what you've done with this, and I think the nuance of this project, is lost on a lot of people. I want everyone to know how.. unproblematic your process has been. But I don't expect them to know the ins and outs of all of this. To most people, A.i represents blanket theft, exploitation, manipulation, minimal effort, and maximum greed. And they're not wrong. Much of A.i usage IS rooted in that. Just not this! I'm sorry you've had to endure this. You did some great work, ACTUAL work, in a way that nobody has done before! And that's fantastic. I think maybe, being a kind, creative, optimistic dude living in a country that globally ranks #2 in "quality of life", with large social safety nets and relatively minimal fear of complete bankruptcy over taking a sick day, etc.. You may have missed the devastation A.i has been causing! And that's okay! You can't know what you've not been exposed to! Keep doing what you're doing, I'm so sad you had to take down your initial video, and I really hope you keep the album up, I LOVE it. I want everyone to understand the granularity of your usage of these tools, and how it differs from the vast majority of it's current devastating usage.

Jesse's Heckin' Tech

I have a hard time understanding why you got so much backlash on the video. I really enjoyed it. I think you make a bunch of valid points, and I love the video clips integrating the AI-con, those looked really cool! I think this was a balanced approach to exploring the new concept of AI and how it will affect creators. I guess people have believed that this was a sign that you would give up on creating, utilizing AI *instead* of utilizing your own creativity. Beats me. I liked the video. AI is still such a novel technology, it's difficult to know how it should and shouldn't be used, and the implications of using it 🤷🏼

Rasmus

I have a friend whose research is in the AI field and I was thinking that this video is such a wonderful example of how AI as a tool can be leveraged by a creator artfully. Just found out it was taken down before I got a chance to share it. Like every time someone hates something, they are usually disproportionately louder than the others, while the others are just enjoying it. So I want to say thank you for this wonderful creation! I understand why you took this down from youtube, and am glad that I can still watch it here!

Bowei Zhang

Long time watcher and I listen to your music -- bought through soundcloud -- and wanted you to know that you're appreciated! Please don't let the haters win. There's so much change and vitriol reaction to that change right now, but I think you're ahead of the curve and the world has yet to catch up. I finally put my money where my mouth is and became a patreon (and I would have even if you didn't re-upload the video). Please keep doing what you're doing. Please don't get discouraged, please read the latest comments on your sunchasing video. Don't ever stop being you.

AJ

I became a Patreon just to wach the rest of this video. Got halfway through and had to step away due to something cropping up and by the time I came back to finish it it'd gone. I'd already filed it under "ridiculously impressive editing and quality" though just like the rest of your videos. Sorry you had a bad experience with it, I hope it doesn't frighten you from making YT videos in the future, yours as infrequently as they appear are quite comfortably some of the most polished you ever see on Youtube. TV (and I'm talking back in the day TV when quality mattered more) quality, easily.

Shoka

Thank you :) I like how you wrote ai ;)

Posy

Just watched the video again. I think you are a genius. There is so much humour and creativity crammed into this one video. ⩘i can never be an artist. But ⩘i will be a tool artists use for all kinds of things whether people want it, or if they don't. Hopefully, this won't have been the last time for you to talk about ⩘i. Because it will become ever more important. It will be our future. I hope you feel better now compared to when you read the YouTube comments a few days ago.

Atramentius .

I think it's somewhat for the best that you took down the AI video just before getting new traffic from Benn's video. I would hate for them to visit your page, see something about AI, and click away before getting to know you.

Stefan Titus

Just have to say SorrAI, apparently

Lee Banyard

Thank you! I really like his channel so that was nice surprise :-)

When I saw the video going live I got excited about it. The editing style was pretty intriguing to say the least and I also agreed with the points in the video. The fact AI is taking most of our jobs from hard work to a simple line of text, scaring a ton of people thinking they would lose their job. Which won't happen because AI is just a program and we have a power that a computer will never have. Feelings and creativity. AI can only create things based on past programming scripts. We can always come up with something new. I was surprised that the amount of backlash was so bad that it forced you to delete the video from YouTube tho. Regardless of the loss from the video I will keep watching! The music's you produce and the videos as a whole are very interesting to watch so I'm not gonna let some AI video stop me from watching your content.

StrawTech8

I think the general negative mood people have, is because of (as you pointed out in the video) the tsunami of AI "art" for the sake of AI (and not for art). I'm sorry to see you getting this much backlash, especially because you recently mentioned having a 'fear' of uploading main videos, and because you are a creative person who makes all kinds of art, in the form of music, video, photos. Personally I feel the current AI-fication of everything to be a terrible thing, and cheapening art as a human experience. There's many ethical issues with it as well. Your idea to clearly mark what is and is not AI, as well as the execution of the icon, are a good step to differentiate (as people seem unwilling to do so, so far). I don't see AI going away, but I do hope the power consumption, intensive labour by people in third world countries, and art stealing are solved. Having said all that, I didn't hate your video, and will check out the album you've made. The first track reminds me a lot of the 'plunderphonics' of The Avalanches' music. Keep being creative dude <3 -J

CH23

While this was inevitably going to be a divisive video, I am sad to see it get taken down. Whether or not people agree with their perceived opinions from it, I felt like it was very much in line with the rest of your videos: a journey into something without a pointed intention other than just to look and ask questions. You explored a tool, and something interesting came out of it. I can't ask for more than that. Also, maybe YouTube was skewing the comments that I saw, but most of the top comments were positive to neutral. I saw a relatively small amount of negativity for what is generally a divisive subject, but I suppose that I didn't see the bulk of comments with little to no interaction.

Benrob0329

Ultimately the AI is just a tool and can be easily recognized by human beings thats familiar with such category.(e.g. AI pictures) The most drawback of an AI is that it doesn't have a sense of logic which is the most method for me to distinguish it from real human creatures.

PREOCO

Super awesome video man! I missed the original upload but I think your use and handling of AI in this video is probably the best and most creative you can be with it so I don't understand any of the negative feedback, I already really liked your approach with the AI-audio tracks from before. Ignore the haters!

On the bright side: Posy ‘'s video on motion detection is mentioned by Benn Jordan. Huge compliments! https://youtu.be/c5ynZ3lMQJc

peetsneekes

Sadly the number of people who can't understand sarcasm is astonishing...

Kilrah

Heh, no surprise there. Great minds think alike

PatHightree

Damn, such a carefully crafted video, with an excellent point. Thanks for sharing it here.

Seth Arnold

Thank you! Jesper just pointed it out in the original Patreon post as well! I follow Ben Jordans channel so this is really nice :-)

Posy

Something to make you feel better Benn Jordan just proclaimed your motion extaction video the best YT video ever https://youtu.be/c5ynZ3lMQJc?si=K5pbb-ner67JmKNA&t=370

PatHightree

incroyable !!!

That was all the fuzz about? Let's be real, this whole AI stuff is going on since a few years, and the various tools for creating it only getting better with time. More and more people start to realize it's already in and around there lifes, so I think many fear it as a threat maybe? Because most people don't really understand AI, how it works, and see it more as magic and mysterious type of technology. I like your video and the idea of marking video creations with a label, this can be useful for anyone in doubt. And don't be afraid to be controversial, it's part of the game, i think ;)

Daniel Ochodek

Personally I liked the video. If making a piece of art involves AI or not shouldn't bother the viewer. Most people watch blockbuster movies without knowing if what they are looking at is a CGI shot or a live action one. Why should someone care and dislike your video if some shots are made using AI or if it expresses opinions about it. I would define AI as another CGI tool and what you do with that tool is just as good as anything else made with other tools. It's like comparing practical effects and computer generated ones, they are completely different things but both can lead to awesome visuals. The same can be said about expressing opinions on those tools. Nobody has ever been criticized for recommending or not recommending the use of the magic wand in Photoshop so why is this happening with AI and why is it considered a controversial topic?

Fer

Your AI video is very good. I understand your reason for taking it down, but you should not take any criticism personally, and I hope you do not change your approach as a result. The AI video is an honest, playful, and insightful comment on the artistic value of a disruptive technology (hardly new terrain for you!) Your points were crafted to explore, not convince. Your video is quintessentially Posy, and all true heads will recognize it as such. Unfortunately, the subject is (understandably) fraught, and people are responding to larger cultural argument rather than your specific work. So take it with a grain of salt. You are a truly unique content creator. Keep using AI if it’s helpful. Keep approaching subjects with an open-mind. I love your stuff man. I’m sorry this one burned you, but don’t stop touching the stove!

Dreebo Beebop

Funny, frightening and apparently inflammatory. The Luddites named themselves after the mythical [artificial] weaver Ned Ludd. Is there a name for those who want tear down AI?

Andrew Carey

Thank you for sharing the video, I didn't get a chance to see it earlier. Personally I hate AI and I hope you keep creating content without using it, but I also really liked this video. Years ago I loved playing around with various AI tools and creating creative works with them, and I think that - in isolation - it's still possible for a human artist to use those tools to create meaningful art (such as this video you made). But these days AI is used so much to generate slop-content generated on stolen work with the goal of replacing human artists that even though I see legitimate art use cases for these tools I just don't want to see this technology adjacent to any real art humans make, it almost feels as if AI-generated content is tainting the soul of the art it is incorporated into. And I'd love to see you keep creating art that doesn't feel like it's tainted by something evil.

rebane2001

I still think your video is awesome and now I have watched it twice. Keep on creating. Art is sometimes controversial. ❤️

Jeff Brown

Too bad the original video has been deleted. I dedicated a post to it as being quite inspired and thoughtful. The incistance for people to demand the ethical considerations seem to me as demanding more pandering and virtue signaling. Of course it’s important and should be considered, but not every thought needs to be disclaimed with a general lament. That would truly seem disingenuous. I do get why you removed it, but I wish you didn’t have to. If only for the arts not to be subjected to (self) censure.

peetsneekes

The video was well ahead of its time and I'm glad you posted it here. Something tells me more people will accept this point of view in 3-5 years from now.

naorunaoru

I never comment anything on YT, same as here on Patreon, this is literally first exception just to say thanks for all content you have created 🙏 (from very beginning up to this awesome AI video) … keep doing your awesome work Posy, with keep in mind, that haters are always way more loud than likers 👍 btw. I admired any AI logo variation on original YT upload, so yeah, someone seen it immediately 🤓

Hradyho

Your A.I album is honestly my favourite album from your discography, I can really tell you had a lot of fun making these songs with the samples you generated 😁

EJDS

I’m a dyed in the wool AI disliker, BTW, but the part I hate is that it lets folks who aren’t interested enough in learning art, writing, or music to think they are creators already, so they don’t keep learning. However, when a massively skilled person like you uses it, some of the parts may still make me uncomfy, the result is so amazing, I can’t deny it’s art.

George

“No more controversial videos from you”? Unfortunately, I fear it can’t be avoided. As the world coalesces into the ‘two factions’ (with us, against us), everything will eventually be deemed acceptable or unacceptable. And when all the unacceptable things have been eradicated the ‘with us’ faction will split and start to judge itself, until eventually there is just one, bland, homogenous, almost featureless state of acceptableness. You’re right and I fear we might just be the last creative generation.

Glenn Broadway

I liked the video a lot: the weird transitions, the thinking about how AI can be incorporated into production, and I'm definitely going to use the icon in my projects. Haters gonna hate, chin up mate and keep going. I hope about "controversial" topics as well.

Timo Virtanen

I didn’t actually realize how good this video was until I watched it in full this is insane

DottyC Swift

Oh, I see now, it was due to folks sending terrible comments. 💜 I feel you. It’s tough to labor so long on something and face such a backlash. We support you, Posy.

George

No, I did 😉

Posy

Wait, did YT delete it?🤬
