Social Touching in Harpy Culture

Since they have sharp talons on their fingertips that are rarely dulled, harpies are not used to being touched by fingers and palms, but rather knuckles, feet, and mouths. Where they are comfortable being touched depends on their relationship with someone else. For instance, a stranger touching any part of a harpy would be seen as a threat unless the stranger is a healer or is helping the harpy in a dire situation. 



Once acquaintances, harpies may touch one another’s feet or hands when handing over food or items. Friends may touch each other’s heads, arms, most of the wings, and even outer thighs while preening or helping the other get clean. Close friends may also sleep beside each other pressing into each other’s sides, but they do not ever hug chests or press foreheads together.



Laying foreheads together is the harpy way of saying non-verbally and very strongly “I love you”. It is often done with eyes closed as a sign of strong trust between one another. It can be a gentle and serious pressing of foreheads, or be playful with both harpies pressing hard/ grinding into each other’s heads like a fight of “I love you more!”. Although very intimate, it is not strictly romantic (harpies can give this sort of “kiss” to their children or close family members) but it is often done between mates as a form of chaste affection. 



The most intimate harpies can be with one another (that isn't a sexual act) is pressing their chests/front bodies together like a hug. This is only ever done in private, romantic settings and is often taken as an invitation to do more. Pressing/ rubbing chests is probably the closest harpies have to the concept of making out. Harpy couples are discouraged from doing this while other harpies are present and, if caught, are told the harpy equivalent of “get a room!”.

A harpy's erogenous zones are their chests, bellies, groins, inner thighs, backs and tails. Touching or rubbing any of these places in a sexual context will stimulate arousal. If touched in these areas non consensually , harpies will perceive the touch as a threat. If touched consensually but without leading to mating, the stimulated harpy may feel sexually frustrated until the feeling fades or until they find release.
