General bulk update time! I don't have a new infographic for you, because it's pretty much the same as it was. To summarize August 2022, the minor R'Shiru animation, comic (well, two) and image sets were released. As for the Eru rework, the model itself is mostly done, however we're polishing it up with help of Discord feedback. As for the Dwarf character, her model is done, she needs some more clothes finished. Anyway, both of them deserve some decent introduction, so I'll introduce them as we go. For the Major Liz and Tristana animation - it's in progress, we're around 65% mark on rendered action scenes (so that's not counting the credits and other fluff that I'll do later during the audio work). I will do my best to finish the animation and rendering this month, but I don't think it'll be released in September, considering the audio etc. I will keep you updated. The September content planned so far: - Assorted Image Render pack from August - I'll release that tommorow - Discord comic raffle winner #2 - some tentacle action with Sol'phie and Lillya, I'll get that in a week - Liz and Tristana animation preview - I think it'll be the last preview before the release, but we'll see. Hello guys, it's the monthly update time! This time with a picture. So there's a lot of things ont he agenda, first of all, the July Assorted Render pack will be released tommorow. They're random renders, mostly suggested by Discord users. Next up there's a cute R'Shiru animation incoming, made in a PoV style. It's an experiment for me, we'll see how it goes. I will try to get it released this or next week, it depends on the VA's. It will be available for Omega supporters and higher tiers in early access. After that, there's an interesting comic with our favourite girls: Meru, Miru and R'Shiru after the Ritual. Will contain a lot of tentacles. And of course, the main attraction, the Liz+Tristana animation. It's progressing fine, but I took the time to make another animation in the meantime to hopefully get the supporters back (Patreon makes it hard, lol, yeah, I still have a Patreon page). I will post more previews from everything as we go! I expect to make another smaller animation next month, though I'm not sure about the theme yet. You're welcome to suggest something! Also after Liz, R'Shiru and Tristana model upgrades, there are some model improvements and new models, including our own shortstack character and Eru model reworks. Hi guys! It's time for the general update post. -- Liz x Trist major animation We're basically done recording and matching the audio, so I'll be able to resume working on the animation very soon. We just did a full review of the recorded lines yesterday. Stay tuned for upcoming animation streams! -- Other content There's a few entires in "Discord Request Competition 3" that need to be done. One of them will be realized in a form of a comic (which is like halfway complete, but it's not a priority, so I'm not sure when it comes out), the others will be little animations. Hello guys! I hope you're having a wonderful sunday. There's a few housekeeping things to talk about, but first, let me update you on the Liz + Tristana animation. So, a week ago I finished the raw animation, Pyreaus helped with the script and dialogues as usual, and it clocks at 12:58 at the moment. I might add some extensions to some looped parts later on, but that's the "sketch" that we're working with VA's to record to. I'll let you know when the recording is finished and I can start polishing up the animation! Meanwhile I'm hard at work making assets to make the laboratory look less empty, also there's a small Vex animation coming up (around 1min+) as a filler content. Changes to tiers From the moment I started creating this world I tried to keep all the content released for free immediately to the public, with no benefits to supporters, as I strongly believed people should only donate if they really want to. However, as we're now progressing into the territory of hiring voice actors, I have people helping me with scripts, quality assurance and the quality of animations go up, so I had to buy a ton of extra hardware to keep up. I thought The Ritual would bring the numbers up a little bit, but it's quite the contrary, I lost around 25% of supporters since the release. So yeah, I need to do something about it, because at this rate I won't be able to continue creating. For now I'm just implementing basic changes that most similar creators have. Animation releases (the bigger ones, 1min+) will be available a week early to supporters of 600¥ and higher tiers. The 6500¥ (50$) tier makes a comeback for people who really want to help out to offset the costs of VA, sound etc. By subscribing to this tier, you'll get a special role on Discord, access to the WIP channel, where I'll be posting all the internal rough previews and test renders. The 6500¥ (50$) Discord role is acquired when you get charged for it and bot gives you the role and it will be active until the Liz+Tristana animation is released, even with just one payment of 6500¥ (50$). Additionaly, 6500¥ (50$) supporters will get a place in credits if they want to. It's opt-in, so you will have to specifically tell me that you want to be included and with what name. There'll be a post created for that. What's more, as a 6500¥ (50$) supporter you can request project files or current updated character Blender files. Please keep in mind that they'll be provided as they are and as I'm using them, they can be rough around the edges. And some common sense applies, I keep the right to refuse ridiculous requests (for example full Ritual project files are 200GB+, I don't have hosting that can handle that). -- All animations will still be released for free for the public, supporters just get them a week early! I will let you know when I finished the main animation sketch and we send it to VA's for recordings! So, The Ritual got finally released, reviews are in and I’m glad overall people enjoyed it. I think a little summary post is in order. In the first place I’d like to thank everyone who participated, including all of you who supported me financially. There are some special mentions: Helldemon, our wonderful Discord admin, who meticulously went frame by frame, piece by piece of the animation with me to help find issues. Pyreaus, who is responsible for the dialogues and coordinating things with voice actresses. Speaking of VA’s, they also did an outstanding job, and to tie it all together EvilAudio pulled through with some juicy sounds. WHERE DID IT COME FROM? Now, where to start, where to start… it all begun with a small looped animation of Meru getting banged by a wolf. People liked it, so I expanded it into what later became known as “part 1”. Well, people seemingly loved the setup, so we got a continuation which became known as “part 2”. And demanded more. Now, at first the “part 3” was just supposed to be another ~6 minute thing with the big boy, but it somehow got out of control. It was too big of a project to just ignore it in the story, so we got some lore included. And then I kept adding and adding to it and we somehow ended up with fully voiced 35 minute animation. I’m glad I was able to finish it, but it was an extremely challenging project, and for many reasons it was mentally exhausting, so I don’t think I will be doing an animation of this length anytime soon. I’ll aim more for ~8 minutes length. WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG? It took way too long. There’s a few reasons for that, but it boils down to bad planning mostly. I had part 1, part 2, which were sort of okay, but not really, and I just started animating part 3 with just a rough plan and just kept adding stuff as we went. So the animation came first, then came the script, then the animation was adjusted for the script, then came the voice acting, then animation got further adjusted for the voice acting. As you can easily tell, it is not the optimal workflow. It allowed some extra creativity (the random funny stuff, like Miru getting dropped down on her head), but it’s just a stupid way to work. The other thing was the 60 FPS. The animation was made and keyframed in 24 FPS. Interpolating it to 60 FPS is not as painless as you’d think, a lot of weird artifacts pop up, a lot of adjustments have to be made on scene per scene basis. And there’s over 40 blender files to go through and fix. Not to mention going from 24 to 60 is a 2.5x multiplier on not only render time, but also simulation bakes. And I personally don’t think 60 FPS even looks better. With all this in mind, moving forward, I’ll default to 30 FPS instead. I’m sure there are some 60 FPS enjoyers that are disappointed by this, but it’s just not worth it, sorry. Next thing that took a lot of time was fixing clipping. As I mentioned before, Helldemon was a big help on spotting the issues, but fixing clipping, especially hair, is a nightmare that took many, many, many hours of manual adjustments. And it’s still not perfect. I’m looking into solutions for this, but the physics systems available in Blender are kinda lackluster. SO WHAT’S NEXT? I did all the backups and clean-ups and switched to Blender 3.0+. There are some new cool tools I need to check out. I’ll finish the very very late “request competition” entries soon. At the same time, I want to do a quality pass on the character models, I’m unfortunately not a great character artist, but I hope to be able to do some improvements, especially on hair and genitals. Also the older models will need to be fully re-rigged, because the armatures are starting to show their age. Of course we are planning thea next animation, this time with a better workflow. I don’t want to spoil it yet, but it will be placed on the timeline just after the events of The Ritual. I’d like to thank you all for the support and look forward for things to come! TL;DR Future animations will be aimed at ~8min runtime and 30 FPS. Meanwhile, fixing stuff.
