January 2023 Exclusive Picture: Tenar and next month's poll

For a while things were very evenly distributed in last month's poll, but then finally Tenar from "Tales From Earthsea" got in front of the race. So here she is, together with prince Arren. Perhaps the movie isn't Ghibli's finest moment, but she's still a fine character. Thank you for your support! Please Read: What will change with the new Fanbox rules?

Let’s talk about Pixiv’s new regulations for Fanbox, which will go in effect on December 15. You can find their full statement here: https://official-en.fanbox.cc/posts/4840574

The short version of what I have to say is this: under these new regulations it will become impossible for me to post any content on my Fanbox that involves or implies loli/shota, incest or bestiality. As an alternative, I have set up a page on Fantia, where these topics are still allowed, and which you can find here: https://fantia.jp/fanclubs/478784

If this was the signal from me you were waiting for to switch over, then you can do so now, the Fantia page is active, it has the same plans and rewards.

If you’re doubtful about switching over and prefer sticking with Fanbox (which I totally understand, I am more familiar and comfortable with Fanbox myself, and would have preferred continuing to work mainly with it), let me explain in more practical detail what will change with each of the tiers after December 15:

1. The Early Birds: It is important to know that the rules for the main Pixiv site itself haven’t changed, so I will still be able to do “forbidden” art there. So you will still be able to receive your Early Birds for all of my free pictures, on the condition that you have provided me with an e-mail address. Early Birds with forbidden content will no longer be posted on the Fanbox page itself.

2. The monthly Exclusive Pictures: Nothing will change (except for the Early Birds mentioned above). The monthly Exclusive where already compliant with the rules of the Patreon platform, which are have now become the same as those of Fanbox. All the Exclusives will still be posted on Fanbox itself, you only need to provide an e-mail if you want to receive the versions that are not subject to mosaic censorship.

3. The Twice Is Nice Pictures: This is the category with the most problematic content, and I will have to remove a good deal of them over the next week. However, as you have noticed, my pictures have grown into something more akin to image sets, with multiple variants per picture. Some of these variants will be ok under the new rules, some not. Going forward, I will create at least one variant of each new Twice Is Nice picture which is ok by the new rules and can be posted on the main Fanbox page, but some of the other variants can only be obtained through mail. So again, I would ask that you provide me with your e-mail if you want to continue receiving the full content. Since some of the older pictures will unfortunately be fully removed from the site, I will temporarily replace them with older Twice Is Nice pictures from the archive that are compliant with the rules, so that new subscribers at least have a full set of twelve months available to them on the Fanbox site.

4. Story Time: This tier will unfortunately disappear from Fanbox completely, and will become Fantia only. There’s just no way there is enough material left under the new rules to maintain it, since even a simple phrase could be misinterpreted. I will let the tier remain active for a couple of months so that people have the time to either switch to Fantia, or to pledge to another tier on Fanbox, but there will no more content for it after this month. Those who have already paid for this month, will still receive it through e-mail though, so again, please provide your e-mail if you haven’t done so yet.

5. IMPORTANT: For new subscribers after December 15, I will no longer be able to offer any of the older pictures from the archive that break the new rules through Fanbox. You will see the checklist of older Exclusives being altered in the upcoming week. The reason is that from that moment on offering prohibited materials through any form of promotion on the Fanbox site is forbidden too. Going forward, for new members after the 15th, the full archive will be Fantia only.

I hope this clears a couple of things up. If you have specific questions, please feel free to ask them. However, please be aware that I may not have a definitive answer yet, as this is a developing situation for me as well, and it will probably take 2-3 months before all the quirks are ironed out.

Also, I apologize for the fact that these happenings may interfere with my schedule for December. If any of the pictures are posted later than expected this month, I ask for your understanding. But everyone will receive everything he is entitled to in the end.

Addressing Pixiv/Fanbox's New Rules

The TLDR version of it is that from December 16 onwards certain types of content will no longer be allowed on Fanbox. The complete details and regulations will be announced at the end of this month, but as it stands, there is a very good chance that things such as loli/shota, incest, beastiality and gore will no longer be allowed. If this turns out to be the case, what am I planning to do? Well, bear with me for a second, because I only learned the news as I was about to go to bed yesterday evening, so these following sentence are the result of a couple of sleepless hours:

1. The new rules seem only to apply to Fanbox, Booth and Request, not to the Pixiv main site itself, since they have been impose by the credit card companies. So it seems I'll still be able to post freely on Pixiv. But just ibn case, I'd recommend you also follow me on Baraag as a fallback: https://baraag.net/web/@Madoc

2. The exclusive pictures (the 1100 yen tier) will be fine. These already followed the guidelines set down by Patreon, so there everything will continue as it was.

3. Twice Is Nice (the 1600/2200 yen tier) is the problem. I had moved this tier over from Patreon to Fanbox only to have that extra freedom, but it seems that will no longer be the case. Now, I am still planning to continue the tier and produce two exclusives per month, but any loli or shota characters are out if these rules do indeed apply. I'm not going to lie: this will lose me supporters and will be a financial hit. If you decide to end your pledge over this, I completely understand and I don't blame you. Luckily I'm in a relatively good position where the other pictures I produce are just as popular, and people tend to support me over the unusual series and comics I pick to parody. There are a couple of artist I'm friends with where I'm asking "How are they going to survive this, with their content?"

4. If indeed the Twice Is Nice tier on Fanbox will from now on have to obey the same restrictions as on Patreon, well then I see no reason not to open the Twice Is Nice tier on Patreon again as well. At that point both platforms are just the same, and you can chose the one that appeals to you most.

5. It's going to be a strange situation with the Early Birds, since some content will be allowed on Pixiv but can't be posted on Fanbox. So make sure that you provide me with your e-mail address if you want to make sure you have not missed anything.

6. Finally, yes, it seems that I will have to remove a significant amount of pictures from the Fanbox site. Truth be told, I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the archive of older pictures yet, since they were no longer posted on Fanbox, but people could still request them through their e-mail provided they were in the correct tier. It's simply unclear at this time what the rules will have to say about that. I will also have to remove the recent "offending" Twice Is Nice pictures and replace them with older "safe" ones, to make up the 12 you're at least entitled to when you sign on. Again, it'll become more important going forward to provide me with an e-mail if you don't want to miss out.

That's all I can say at this time. The regulations have not been confirmed in full yet, so we are still partially in the dark here. What you've read above are the broad strokes of my backup plan, but practicalities can still change.

Early bird: Indecent Descent, Version 5

Coming November 24, it'll be 48 years since the discovery of the famous Lucy fossil, so that's as good excuse as any for another update. You may notice that, apart from the new characters, I also changed the designs of two existing ones. Truth be told, my design for Homo georgicus doesn't reflect present findings any more, since they are no longer considered a link between Homo Ergaster and the Asian Homo erectus, but a far more primitive form. So a new design for georgicus, and I reassigned my old design of her to Kocabas Woman, who corresponds more to this idea of an intermediate. I also tweaked Paranthropus boisei's design a bit to make her a bit more jolly. New Gear

As we're slowly approaching the end of the year, I wanted to talk for a bit about what your support has been going towards, apart from the rather mundane topic of living expenses. When I bought my previous PC, I wasn't doing so well financially, meaning I had to settle for the cheapest option, a machine which cost me less than $200 at the time. Now I don't want to dunk on it too much as it performed its functions, but it was always slow and clumsy and things didn't exactly get better over time. Especially when handling larger files such as comic pages, it was a constant struggle to get everything done. Heck, lately even sending out e-mails became a test of patience. So since yesterday, thanks to the funds you guys have provided, I fnally upgraded to a more powerful machine, and at the same time I've upgraded my drawing tablet to a Cintiq 16 as well! There I have to say that I've always been impressed by my Intuos 4, which served me faithfully for 12 years. Before that I was using a crappy off-brand $50 tablet, and before that I was doing digital colouring by mouse (something I don't recommend to anyone). You can tell how much of a relief the Intuos was by how much my colour output started to increase in 2010. But I have to admit that its use for someone who's used to having the paper underneath his hand when he's drawing, was always a bit counterintuitive. Hopefully the screen display of the Cintiq should fix that. So I hope you have some patience with me during the following weekend, as I now need to get everything set up and in working order, and import all my programs, files and settings. If you send me an e-mail or PM in the following couple of days, response might be a bit slow. And I suppose that after that the tablet will take some time to getting used to as well, but the best way to do that is to keep on working. Once more I would like to thank all of you who have supported me, at any amount. Your contributions have made this possible, and I hope that I will continue to earn your trust!

Some practicalities for the following weeks.

As some of you maybe already know, I'l be leaving on holiday from the end of next week until mid October. If you send me a mail or PM, during this time, it may take some time before you get a response, as I won't always be online. Same thing is you decide to pledge during that time, so please bear with me.

I'm currently also working to ensure the upcoming exclusives will be delivered on time, so no need to worry there.

There will also be an earlier Discord session before I leave, probably on Wednesday or Thursday next week. I'll post the announcement and link when my schedule is clearer.

"Maria The Virgin Witch" won out in her second round, although she was closely pursued by Maetel. So here she is, together with her succubus familiar Artemis. Thank you again for all your wonderful support. This month's poll will end a bit earlier, on September 20th. Since I'll be on holiday from September 24 till October 15, I'd like to finish the October exclusive before I'm away. Hey everyone! Just to let you know: when cleaning up one of my external hard drives a couple of days ago, I found a folder of old original b & w art (mostly Penny Diary stuff) which I haven't reposted since my WWOEC days. I will slowly start reposting them on Pixiv and Baraag over the next couple of weeks. Since these are old files, and I have no higher resolutions on offer, these will fall outside of the usual Early Bird arrangement. In fact, many of you from back in the day may already have them. Sorry for taking up your time.
