Brainstorming on the Weekend

#1: I need to figure out now what happens with class evolution @ lvl 50, before it sneaks up on me in 3 floors and I'm totally unprepared.

Things I want: I want the levelling to slow down after 10th floor. 3 lvls per floor, diminishing to 1 and then every other floor and so on, until we hit lvl 100.

I want some kind of Class Advancement options to present themselves @ lvl 50.

I'm tinkering with the idea of gaining a 3rd Primary skill as part of the package deal with the n...

Chapter 140: Ethereal Metallic Slime

Mark Wyrd felt like he was finally beginning to relax. The knots were coming undone, the tea from a rare flower that only grew on this floor had a mild sedative effect that managed to pierce a Climber’s Resistance.

And it didn’t taste half-bad either.

“This must be the most interesting wall in all the land,” Amanda Akul said, leaning close and following his line of sight to the blank stone wall.

“It’s not bad.” Mark said with a shrug.

“Would you like so...

Did an Interview With Soundbooth Theater

Got interviewed by the voice actor and the Sound Booth Theater crew in anticipation of the release of book 2 of Industrial Strength Magic on Audible May 6th. It's out on pre-release right this very moment.

Worked on that skit last week, did the interview today.

For any of you folks interested in my pretty face.

Chapter 139: Identity Crisis

3…2…1

BOOOOOM!

An explosive blast sent out a wave of compressed air, flattening the jungle around the lake for a hundred paces and disintegrating the top of the ziggurat.

Shrapnel cleaved through the platform of hardened air that they stood on, diverted off course by the angled layers just enough to not cause them any harm. Badur looked distinctly uncomfortable.

There!

Where there had once been an ancient ziggurat w...

Chapter 138: Silverdeath

Mark Wyrd was taking a much-needed break. Four months since he had killed his father and rescued his wife, and it felt like he hadn’t gotten a single moment to rest.

It wasn’t just purging the ranks of his father’s stooges and straightening out their extremely crooked finances, it was also defending his claim on the Wyrd Stronghold. When a Lord passes, everyone and their grandfather suddenly thinks they have a chance at the title. Literally.

The first month...

Chapter 137: Ancient Temple of Steel

With no regard for his personal safety, William Oh didn’t hesitate a single heartbeat, charging into the ancient dungeon alone and headlong, eager to take on the raid boss that he knew in his heart was there.

Once he found Silverdeath, he stood his ground and challenged it to a fair fight, bouncing it’s piercing spikes off his blessed steel bracers before taking the monster apart in a long, grueling battle that tested his strength and Abilities to their limits....

Chapter 135: Guy’s Night

“Okay so right there is where Akresh says the Raid Boss is.” Loth said, pointing out a spot near dead center on the map.

Will frowned, studying the X in the middle of a lake below a waterfall.

“This hasn’t been discovered in a thousand years?” Will asked. it was in the center of the map, partly between the Wyrd Stronghold and all the Key Sites.

“I’m sure it has, but it’s likely rare.” Loth said, pulling out a pen and laying it between the Stronghold and key...

Chapter 134: Prophesied Doom

Caddock heaved the arm-width rope over his shoulder, timing his tugs with those of other prisoners as they transported the star towards the cart designed to haul it out of the frozen wastes and down to Basalt.

Robbing the mostly empty frozen wastes of what little warmth they had in order to arm the Church of Granesh against the oncoming flood.

Caddock could see why it was necessary, he just wished it wasn’t.

He and the other prisoners had the technique down to an artform, ...

Chapter 133: Youthful Competition

…And THAT is why we are not monsters, or demons, or anything but a proud race of warriors descended from the divine world-snake in ages long lost to the sands of time, waiting for the final battle, when Ouroboros will call his erstwhile molts back to him.

Unfortunately for Will, tongue-flicks didn’t require pauses for breathing, so this old man hadn’t stopped lecturing him in nearly an hour.

All the while his Party was creeping closer and closer.

Chapter 132: Itty-Bitty Little Snake

Ouroboros was once attacked by a coalition of gods and men with the intent of subduing Chaos and bend The Tower to their will. In the midst of the battle, Ouroboros shed several skins of titanic proportions. These Immortal Serpents continued to fight on while their creator shrank down to the size of a humble garden snake, weaving between the hooves of cavalry and tromping of iron boots.

And so it was that humanity failed to bring Chaos to heel.

Chapter 131: Training

The days gradually went by more and more smoothly once they got a handle on the monsters, which seemed unending at first. The teeming life of the jungle slowly ran out of surprises.

Never completely out of surprises…but less.

Taking the extra time to level the civilians kept them much safer than they might’ve otherwise been, and had fringe benefits.

The food got better, with Badur’s preservation Ability allowing them to add more meat to the menu and stretch their store...

I was going through all my notes trying to add everything together for a character sheet splash, and I finally KNEW I had gotten to the point where making an excel spreadsheet that could automatically accommodate the shifting stats from Phantom Hand would be faster and far more accurate than doing it manually.

With the added benefit of being WAY faster the next time I have to do it.

“So, who was it?” Will asked, causing Ria to glance up from where she was helping to clean up after the attack. Ria smoothed her clothes and straightened, clearing her throat as he approached.

“Who was what?” the tall young woman asked, awkwardly leaning on a nearby wagon.

“Who died?” Will clarified.

“What?” Ria frowned, cocking her head to the side. “No one died.”

“…I saw you carrying a corpse.”

“Oh! That was Reese.”

Will was still shaking off the fog of sleep as his body shot to its feet.

Three big blinks and Will was back, orienting on the sound of combat.

It wasn’t coming from the brush-cutting vanguard, but the rear.

Something smart enough to attack from behind, but dumb enough to think they could get away with it.

Climbers? Will thought, spinning and juking around his bedding atop the wagon, leaping off the wagon and sprinting through the air, creating a stairc...

“It’s the moisture in the air.” Will said.

“There was moisture in the air on the Sixth Floor, and it didn’t chafe.”

Relic and Sacrifice suggestions. (minor Spoilers)

The middle finger that had Will's lifesteal sickle is now empty, and the Stormfists are dwarfed in power by the Coiled serpent amulet, giving us two free finger slots.

The undead servant wand is still useful for their intended purpose, and the ring of accuracy is of middling usefulness in the right situation. (a better ring of accuracy might be on the table.)<...

Some of this will probably go into a character sheet at the end of the fight, so if there are any glaring errors or things you find confusing, or feel were left out...lemme know.
