Save Scumming - Chapter Ninety-Two

1592! Somehow, this chapter and 91, both have the same wordcount. Weird!

Chapter Ninety-Two

I firered, pumped, fired, pumped, then did it all again, five shots, switching between targets every time I racked a new round.

Then I slowly lowered the shotgun. It wasn’t all that big, and its tube-magazine could only hold five shells to begin with, so at the moment it was a metal stick.

I stared at the five orcs who’d stepped out of the p...

Chapter Ninety-One

“Okay, start from the beginning,” I said as I helped my new pal down. “Like... what’s your name?”

“Who even are you?” he asked.

“Deadline,” I said. “I’m Deadline. I find problems, I fix them. And I’m usually pretty quick about it. Come on, sit down, that’s right. Your name?”

“Martin,” he said. He winced, and I tugged on the sleeve of his arm a little, hoping to see why. He hi...

Save Scumming - Chapter Ninety

Segment added to chapter 87:

It took a solid three hours before they returned, a tense three hours that I spent edging away and mostly keeping to myself. The locals were quick to start handing out food and supplies, and more gawkers showed up to stare.

Then stories started coming in, and people were sent out across town. People were getting attacked in their homes. The orcs that had snuck out, which was probably a good number of them, were going around in bands, terrorizing and ki...

Save Scumming - Chapter Eighty-Nine

Hmm... I always like mentioning the... unmentionable stuff. My characters poop sometimes. I mean, obviously, this doesn't happen in more younger-audience-aimed stuff. Broccoli Bunch doesn't even fart. But in a cyberpunk story?

Idk, maybe it's just me, but there's something that makes the world feel more real when the characters have real problems. As much as I might lampshade some, and skip over others because... well, no one needs to know too much detail about ...

I'm Going to Dragoncon!

Yeah! Next week! It's my first ever convention, and I'm both suuuper nervous and real excited for it!

Obviously, I'll try to write while I'm there, but it might be a bit too busy :( so... yeah, I guess from one Wednesday to the next, it might be a bit touch-and-go with chapter released. Heck, it might be rough the day before and after too. Sorry!

Anyway, I've got these cute pins:

Save Scumming - Chapter Eighty-Eight

Chapter Eighty-Eight

It quickly became obvious that we wouldn’t hold.

The locals were fast. Police came in and reinforced the barricade, and then the local fire fighters joined in, rushing to the homes nearest the Synthcorp compound to help them evacuate, but already it was clear that this would be an evacuation, not something where we could fight back.

I aimed down the length of my revolver and took a shot that rammed into an orc, hitting hi...

Psilocybin Five

“I’ll take two of each,” I said to the pharmacist. Or, I assumed that’s what he was. He certainly had the white coat of one on, though his coat was a little less white than some might have preferred.

“Two of each?” he asked. I’d only met the man a minute ago and I could tell that he wasn’t impressed with me yet.

“That’s right,” I said with a serious nod. “Boss said, two of each. He sent us cause we’re good at...

Oh, look! The enemy for this arc! Well, sorta? I do plan on having the MC do a week-long loop, so... she'll start portal prep in a week, but it'll be a quick week for us! If you have any funny ideas for things to sprinkle through the week, lemme know!

Also, Save is... somehow still on Rising Stars? I think it'll start dropping soon, though! We're pretty close to 5K, so maybe I'll get that sword after all, lol!

Eric blinked at me, then scanned across the surface of his desk, as if the relevant forms were just going to pop into existence in front of him if he looked hard enough. “Uh,” he said after a moment. “No? Sorry. I mean, we have two internal reporting systems that can kind of do what you’re asking for.”

“Two?” I asked.

“There’s one for reports submitted by managers, workers, and agents,” he said. I didn’...

Hi! Been reading all of the feedback! And... I'm genuinely surprised that people want more portal runs. I guess I was afraid that they'd be boring, but y'all seem to like 'em, and they are kinda fun to write. So... let's start this volume off with a big one, eh? Well... sorta?

Oh, and thanks for all the feedback! Got some good stuff there, things to focus on more, things to avoid, a few things that were pointed out that might be traps. I'll see what I can do to make Save S...

Save Scumming - Volume One Feedback

So... I saw another author do something like this, read through the feedback, and saw a lot of it (amongst some that wasn't) that was super useful. The kind of thing that I sometimes only catch on long walks with Molly.

Since Save has a decent following on here who are pretty vocal, I thought I'd try it too! This seems like a good time for it, at the very end of the first volume. I'm planning on starting Vol 2... uh... like, as soon as I post this? So gimme a couple of hours and we sho...

Chapter Five Hundred and Fifty-Three

The pirate ship was taking a ton of damage, but that didn’t mean that it was going down so easily.

Our shots from above left plenty of holes and rips through the canvas fabric enveloping its frame. Some of those were large enough to expose the large gasbags within. They were all made of a dark fabric, maybe some sort of leather? I couldn’t tell from afar. What I could tell was that we were poking plenty of holes int...

Save Scumming - Interlude - An Extraordinary Man

Ik ik, very short chapter! But hey, it's the second Antagonist!

I'm... considering having a third? But I'm not too sure. I think these two, for now, work well as a pair. One from above, the other from below. One wanting to help, the other... is a dickbag. Good contrast. I do feel like there's more going on though, that the Breach isn't just caused by these two. But oh well!

Save Scumming - Interlude - A Normal Man

Ehhhhh... kind of ambivalent about this one? I might do 1-2 more of these super short interludes. The idea is to introduce all of these future antagonists from their own perspective. I've never done this... I don't think (how could I know what I've done. you expect me to remember all that?) but I've seen it done. Both well and poorly. I think it fits in a story like this in particular, but... I'm not sure.
Basically, lemme know what you think?

The media was handled... for a certain very poor definition of handled, I decided to focus on the next thing on the list. Only the next thing was taking care of Lucy’s little army of volunteers, and I didn’t have the energy to do that. So I skipped right past to the last thing on the list.

Letting the Family know about the event.

They probably knew already. They had to.

If not, I could always text... shit, I ke...

Interlewd - The Princess and the Rebel

This was a bad idea.

Such a bad idea. She was laying in her bed, buried in a nest of pillows, and was keenly aware that Deadline was just one room over.

It was stupid. The woman was a professional. She was just staying over for the night because it was more convenient. That was all.

Sure, there might have been some light flirtations there, at the end, but she didn’t know for sure....

Next on the list was the media.

I... had no idea how to tackle that. A big part of me wanted to ask Lucy her opinion, or Gomorrah, but like, I didn’t need them that much, did I? I could handle this on my own.

Besides, I wanted to get it over with, and if I went back home, I’d be too distracted by how pretty Lucy was to concentrate fully on this job. So, for now, I just needed to figure out how to contact the media an...

“What’s the layout of this place?” I asked, keeping my voice low as I swept my rifle from left to right. I had the longer-ranged sight flipped to the side. Annoyingly, it obscured some of my vision if I was aiming down the reflex sight. Poor design, that.

I frowned as I channelled magic through the carvings poking out of my core, then tried to feel as thoughtful and think-y as I could. Chapter Five Hundred and Fifty-Two

The pirate ship turned about an hour later, pointing its front in the same direction as us and gaining a bit of altitude.

It was still about two, maybe three kilometres away, far enough that we couldn’t make out too many details with the naked eye. What I could see was that it had a large crew, and while they didn’t have uniforms or anything, they did seem like they were moving with some good amount of coordination. View Post

“I see it, I think,” Trinity said as she stood next to Emily. She was squinting, as if looking at something that Emily couldn’t see.

“What does it look like?” Emily asked.

“Ball,” her little sister said. She waggled her hands around in a roughly spherical way, miming a ball of some sort that was somewhere between a cantaloupe and a basketball in size. “Shiny!”

“Right,” Emily replied.
