Miscalculation - Chapter 14

~§~
NOTE: In all of my stories, Alastor Moody survived the war.
~§~

Physically, he was somewhere in the mid to late twenties. Mentally, he would turn fifty this year. Just not on his birthday. Time travel was complicated. Would his birthday technically change if little Harry was born on another date? These thoughts helped distract him from the nerves that were making him bounce his leg hard enough to rattle the table.

It had been a day after their initial conversation that...

Cat Update

My cat was attacked by a fox. This is very strange as:
1. I didn't realize there were foxes in the area. I've seen a coyote or two, but no foxes.
2. He's shown no interest in going outside before now.

He's a rescue. There is a lady with a farm nearby where people just drop off their unwanted cats. This was also news to me. She takes them to the vet, gets them fixed, and their shots, then let's them loose. My former in-laws like to feed and care for the cats by setting them up with...

Post Delay - family emergency

My cat got out and was attacked by a fox. Thanks to a neighbor I was able to get him to the vet. I've got a surprise bill of a few hundred bucks but he's alive.

Somewhere Safe - Chapter 47 - Interlude

Fleur Delacour - Julia Garner
Viviana Krum – Alyssa Bounty

Fleur nervously checked the earring on her left ear again for at least the tenth time in the last two minutes. She knew it was there; it would take a concentrated effort on her part to remove it, but that didn't stop the worry. The argument with her parents had taken more courage than she had expected. She had put on a strong mask, using her desperation and desire to fuel her. Now, here in this school, far from her family,...

Miscalculation - Chapter 13

Harry spent the next week going to high society parties. He met the majority of the parents of the Pureblood classmates in his previous timeline. Those marked Death Eaters that were still alive were lucky enough to be too far away for the Dark Mark to activate. It also helped that the decapitated head of Voldemort was sealed in a box made out of cold iron with intricately carved anti-magic runes. The body was stored elsewhere in a similar box, just in case. Harry was pretty sure that Voldemor...

The Beast Within - Chapter 18

"You have wings?" Ron asked as they waited for their turn to step through the floo.

"And a tail," Harry added. "I think I eat more than you do now."

"Wow," Ron whispered, then he realized what had been said. "Hey!"

Harry gave him a broad smile. Ron opened his mouth to say something but closed it. A smile that Harry didn't like appeared on his face.

"Why are you smiling?" Harry asked.

"No reason," Ron replied turning to face the fireplace.

Harry didn't need ...

Possible Original Stories

I've been tempted to start writing original content again. Potentially posting the chapters here in rotation.
Given my recent spike of anime viewing, the ideas are similar in kind.

Idea 1
Portals to dungeons begin to appear around the world. People chosen seemingly at random are able to enter. This is in hopes to prepare the world for the rapidly approaching inclusion of System Worlds.

Idea 2
Terraforming near-Earth planets has some unexpected consequences. Namely loc...

Should -

  • 1. Focus on the Coven, duels and quidditch are mentioned but not detailed.
This would speed along the story but sacrifice the Tournament.

  • 2. Coven and Tournament equally.
Quidditch games and Duels stick to previous format.
This would stretch things out as there are 2x games and multiple duels

Brain doesn't want to write. Let's make a poll.

Also, going to change up how this works. 1st Level Poll 1 Vote. 2nd Level Poll vote count x2. 3rd Level votes count x3. This way the higher tiers actually a bonus and their extra votes make an impact. This is a test to see how it goes.

Summary-

The other schools have just arrived. Veela are boogeymen. The coven is getting big enough to make me think I'm constantly forgetting someone.

The Beast Within - Chapter 17

The remaining two days of the Full Moon went much easier. He tried, and failed, repeatedly to try to fly with his new wings, but there just wasn't enough height. The best he could do was some very short gliding. His appetite had increased in general, but not to the point of the first. Harry couldn't say that he was a pleasant ray of sunshine, but he wasn't nearly as grumpy. Even after all of the changes he couldn't understand how ragged Lupin always appeared. Ginger didn't have any visible sc...

Miscalculation - Chapter 12

Harry returned to Diagon Alley with the brick in his pocket. He wasn't quite sure how to announce that he had killed Lord Voldemort, but he needed to make sure the bastard stayed dead. There was a chance that he could drain the life from more of his followers. That would make it hard for people to trust him if he said Voldemort was dead only for the supposed corpse to pop back up.

He could come up with a couple of ways off the top of his head on how to deal with the issue. Option one, h...

Viviana Krum – Alyssa Bounty

Time passed in a blur between the dates, training, and the classes. Everyone was stressed as the arrival of the other schools grew closer. The coven stayed true to the date schedule but kept them simple. Lavender took him on a walk around the lake were they held hands, talked, and stole kisses.

Miranda showed him another crystal viewing room where she had some of his mothers' duels from her time in school set for them. He had hoped to sha...

Somewhere Safe - Chapter 45

The next week was spent exploring the Chamber of Secrets. They had to suspend classes for the first couple of days since no one could concentrate on anything else. Unfortunately, there wasn't a secret library, or hidden stash of forgotten magic. In fact, the chamber was more akin to a bunker. They had found multiple entrances scattered around the castle. Euryale explained that in times of conflict, or in case the castle was under siege, the passages would open to the students. The Chamber was...

Somewhere Safe - Chapter 44

"Are you sure about this?" Harry asked the assembled coven.

Mentioning the Chamber of Secrets may have been a mistake. He may have defeated a basilisk a couple of years ago, but that didn't mean he felt like trying it again. Plus, he didn't like having so many people he cared about tagging along. They gathered in what had been Myrtle's bathroom in the other world. Dumbledore had joined them since he was the headmaster and Professor Riddle was there as well since he was the only other Pa...

Let's Try That Again - Chapter 17

17.

The Tournament saved Harry from having to explain his sudden lack of energy. He had to take it easy to make sure his stitches didn't tear. To prevent that, he set up in the library and began to study. The selection was rather impressive. He somehow found his way to the magical creatures' section of the stacks. There he found books on rare and forgotten things that Hagrid would have loved to learn about.

Harry checked out quite a few of them to show his friend later. One of the...

"Shit," Harry muttered.

"What's up?" Ron asked, looking up from his breakfast.

Dumbledore stood from his place at the head table.

"A reminder," The old wizard spoke loudly. "The Yule Ball will be open to fourth year and above. Third year students may attend as a date. It will take place on the evening of December Twenty-Fifth, Christmas Day."

"I forgot about that," Harry grumbled.

"What's so bad about a ball?" Ron asked.

Harry watched as Hedwig landed before him. She held out her leg and gave it a little shake. He smiled as he untied the letter. The stack of bacon on his plate was pillaged the moment her leg was free. He read the note from Rita, then slipped it into his pocket.

"Harry," Ron yelped.

He looked over at his friend. Ron's hands shook as he held up a let...

A New Potter - Chapter 10

Magical Theory was interesting. It also made my head hurt and, honestly, I wasn't sure if I understood most of what we covered. Theory focused on how and why the various types of magic worked. Judging by the looks on everyone else I wasn't the only one. That made me feel a bit better. Unfortunately, the romantic progress with Katie had taken a hit due to mental fugue. She did flash me a tired smile as we left. We trudged up to the Gryffindor Tower together.

A few people joined us on the...

Wild Magic - Chapter 34

Harry knew he was dreaming. The signs were easy to spot considering he wasn't made of gingerbread and there was no reason for him to be in the Ministry of Magic. He knew this feeling too. It was the same one that came from Voldemort trying to get into his head, only the sensation was muted. Harry considered just ignoring it, but curiosity got the better of him.

He focused on the connection and listened. Shock registered from the other side. Harry latched onto that feeling and raced thro...

The farther I get into this story the less I can see a pairing. I'm fine with writing a story without any lewdness but I don't think that's what people are here for.

Let's try something new. I'm putting it up to the Large and Extra Large Tiers. Put your suggestions below. I'll wait until Friday then create a Poll with the usual function.

Miscalculation - Chapter 11

The twitching form of Dolores Umbridge was curled up in the center of the platform. Harry opened the locket, hit it with the Killing Curse, and then tossed it in the water. It was a shame that he couldn't keep the artifacts intact, but it had to be done. He considered kicking Umbridge into the water for a long moment. Instead, he settled on leaving her there on her own. He could always kill her if she managed to escape alive.

Harry walked out of the cave and continued down the coast. Th...

Harry strode through the doors of Gringotts. He waited patiently until he was able to speak with the goblin at the front desk. There were three types of people that he learned to never disrespect: the people who took care of your money, the people who prepared your food, and healers. Any of them could easily ruin his life in a matter of moments.

"Business?" The goblin asked without looking up from the ledger it was working in.

"New Lord Lestrange to inspect his vault," Harry state...

The blade of skeletons sword sliced through the adventurers exposed neck. A newly detached head bounced along the dungeon floor, the glow that surrounded the adventurer a moment ago clung to bloodied sword. The skeleton tilted its head to the side as it watched the light travel along the blade, up along its arm, and settle inside its chest.

I stared at the words. The body of the adventurer lay in a pile at my feet. Their head had rolled to a stop amid th...
