Succubus Stories v0.12 Update Preview

Succubus Stories v0.12, Love and War, will be coming to the patron edition of the game on April 4th, and will come to the free edition of the game a week later, on April 11th.

Rais's romance path and artwork are done! Both his rendered and hand-drawn portraits are in the game, and I even managed to finish his rendered CGs (there are no character-specific hand-drawn CGs right now, but there will be eventually).

Tiaras

Tiaras are a new piece of equipment coming in v0.12 and are managed via the wardrobe menu at the player's home. After meeting certain conditions in the game, like making a certain number of potions or performing prostitution a certain number of times, a tiara related to that task will be delivered to the player character by a mysterious benefactor. This update is becoming quite a nightmare, as you can probably imagine. It turns out adding an entire battle and dungeon-crawling system and then adding several different ending paths worth of content using those new systems takes a lot of testing. The Update May Slip Into Early March...

I just want to let you guys know, I think I've been in denial, but it's at least somewhat likely the update could slip into early March. I'm hoping it will only be a few days into March, but it is what it is. There's a lot of story paths and building them out and testing all of them is just not something I'm able to rush through without sacrificing quality. Add on to that the new combat and relationship mechanics and there's just a lot of testing and polishing that needs to be done.

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day, everybody!

In v0.12, if you're romantically involved with Priscilla, she may ask to move in with you, or for you to move in with her. Agreeing will net you rent-free housing (if you don't already have it), and easy access to your favorite waifu right from your home :D.

No the game isn't turning into a grindy JRPG bore-fest.

Think of this more like the maid academy: it's a fun little dash of unique gameplay that's mostly tied to a part of the story. Priscilla does the heavy lifting, the player will more or less chuck potions the entire time (though you can also do other, more on-brand things ;P). If players like this gameplay system, we can expand it and add things like dungeon crawls or requests based around it. I'm a little leery of combat in my lewd...

Rais is a nightmare...

So Rais is meant to be dark-skinned. No problem, right? I have a model I like for him, found the appropriate textures and materials for the color of skin I want, smash 'em together, and bang! Sexy hetero romance time.

Except, I can't get his skin to not look like plastic. It looks noticeably, distractingly bad. And to get it looking okay, I've had to completely alter the lighting to the point where Paige's skin is very bright and almost pinkish. I've tried other skin...

One of my favorite new CGs coming to v0.12

I know not everyone is in to feet, but I'm a fan of this CG for sure, and wanted to share it. We're on track to have at least 12 new CGs in the next update, but we're hoping for as many as 20, depending on when the update ends up coming out.

A new activity coming in v0.12 will see the player character sneakily "servicing" Rais under his desk during office hours at the guard barracks.

Let's talk about mod support.

Last month, I tried to round up some people to help test mod tools. Unfortunately, I've been unable to secure any real help for testing the tools, which makes me extremely nervous; not even the most dedicated players with an express interest in modding seem to care much about the feature, which makes me feel like I've potentially wasted hundreds of hours of dev time on this feature. Basically I can think of a few ways to go from here, and I need some help making that choice.

Version 0.12 is planned for release sometime in February, and will feature at least some new artwork. Here's a sample!

The artwork has a bit more detail this time around, and I think it looks really great! Our artist Oni-san is also planning to show off some drafts and previews over on Twitter if that interests you! Of course, I'll also share the occasional piece here as well.

If you're not familiar, I use the above online task board to track what I'm working on for the upcoming update. Not every single thing gets listed on the task board, just the big stuff. The task board is a rough outline of what I hope to accomplish, it's not a promise that I will accomplish all these things and it is subject to change.

We hit our $500 goal!

As a goal for hitting $500 per month, I promised to commission additional hand-drawn artwork for the game. I am currently talking to the artist and working out the details, but we have started the process.
