After spending the last few weeks actively avoiding the truthseekers the best he could, it felt strange for Asher to actually be seeking them out for a change. Thankfully, unlike Eight and his slippery assassins, he had a pretty good idea of where he could find them.
The entire ordeal with the inky assassin had barely taken more than a few hours, which meant it was still the dead of night when Asher found himself standing in front of the small building Bordan and Clare had taken him to ...

“This has got to be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen. Easily in the top three at the very least.”
Asher rolled his eyes and ignored Thunder as they continued waiting for the assassin to wake up. They’d stripped the man of everything on him but his underclothes and dripped the Lesser Restoration potion into his ears, as there would be little point in interrogating a deaf man who couldn’t hear them, but they hadn’t poured any of the valuable potion down his throat. T...

As much as Vin wanted to dive straight into working on his newest spell, there was one more thing he needed to take care of. Something that had gotten put briefly to the wayside with the reveal of Golrim having been responsible for founding the Red Dawn and the following ambush they’d had to prepare for.
While Lumel went back to trying to figure out that last secret of the Underside that continued to elude her, Vin mulled over the passive point he’d earned for hitting level 35. His ...

“This… this might not work quite as well as I thought it would,” Thunder admitted, shooting him a weak grin up from the floor.
Asher stared down at Draken’s head of internal security, who was currently stuck about halfway under Crush’s bed. After they’d agreed to let her tag along and she called in a handful of trusted elites to take her place and guard Draken while he slept, the three of them had quietly retreated back to Crush’s house to wait for an attempt on h...

Debriefing Spur on the events of the battle took up the rest of the morning, and Vin decided afterward that he needed some time to unwind. While Spur got started screening Trod with the truth-gem, Vin grabbed two lunches from the now infrequently-used mess hall and made his way over to the dungeon.
Eventually, he wanted to bring up the idea of Lumel joining him for an actual sit-down meal at one of Terra’s new restaurants, but today was definitely not that day. Vin didn’t want to fe...

Despite Golrim having explained everything and Vin knowing Curash was essentially an undercover agent, he couldn’t help but flinch back and mentally prepare a mana-empowered Stone Shot the moment Curash appeared before them. The hunter looked no real worse for wear, but the same couldn’t be said about Trod. The massive orc was missing most of the fingers on his right hand, and he had a crossbow bolt shot straight through his palm, as well as about another dozen peppering ...

Asher blinked, staring up at the large man as his words finally registered. “Wait, you are you reason he’s wasted? What the hell did you give him?”
“A liquor he normally saves for very special occasions,” Crush admitted, grabbing his chair and spinning it around to face him rather than sit behind Draken’s desk. “Brewed by a famous woman from the capital with the Alcohol element. Yeah, it’s a thing.”
“No kidding,” Asher muttered, thinking about how dr...

Vin hid within the canopy of the forest alongside his team and the hundred and fifty combat classes that had volunteered to take part in the surprise attack. Most of the fifty Earthers looked a bit out of their comfort zone, balancing up high on the branches and shooting frequent glances at the near frozen elves hidden up even further above them. The assault force was stretched out across a decent chunk of the western forest, waiting for the Red Dawn to come running into their trap.

“…The what?” Asher responded, blinking dumbly at an exasperated Draken.
“The various stages people progress through as they unlock and develop their skills and elements?” Draken asked, pursing his lips as Asher remained silent. “This doesn’t ring even the smallest of bells for you?”
“No,” he admitted, before the flicker of a memory bubbled to the surface. “Wait… Moxy might have mentioned something about stages once or twice during our time together. She’d...

“Boss… Are you sure about this?”
Curash sighed, quickly checking his surroundings to ensure none of the Red Dawn members were listening in. Even with his high focus and passives, one could never be too careful.
He hadn’t survived all these months leaving things to fate, after all.
“I told you this day would come, Trod,” Curash whispered, turning his attention back toward what would soon be the living grave of those he was temporarily forced to call his people. ...

After a quick apology to Rosh for scaring the living hell out of him yet again, and a promise that he would try and figure out if there was a way of warning his marks before he suddenly appeared next to them, Asher took off into the night. Before he went to run his plan by Draken and Crush, he had a mark to check on.
Unfortunately, his hope of finding another one of the Guild’s hidey holes by heading toward the mark that had once been on Leonard’s body was quickly dashed. A...

The next day was perhaps the busiest Vin had ever seen from the newly built town.
The goal was for the Earthers to take down the entirety of the Red Dawn in one fell swoop. Not only without letting a single one of them escape to wreak havoc elsewhere, but without losing a single Earther on top of that. To that end, Golrim, Vin, and Shia ended up being essential.
The three of them worked in tandem to go over every possible detail they could recall about the Red Dawn, giving the ama...

Asher had only intended to sleep for a few hours, which meant he was more than a little surprised to wake up to find that the sun had already set and he’d slept the entire day away. He’d known his body was tired from the combination of barely any sleep and running out of skill energy twice in one day, but he hadn’t realized just how tired he’d truly been.
“Asher!” Brian shouted, jumping onto him and driving the air out of his lungs with his surprise tackle. “You...

As it turned out, it took more than just a bold declaration and rallying the troops to prepare for wiping the Red Dawn from the face of Edregon. After Golrim admitted to having formed and controlled the band of marauders from afar via his soul-bond with Curash, there were a number of things that had to be taken care of.
Such as marching Golrim straight over to Spur’s new residence and waking up the sleeping colonel to fill him in on everything Vin had just learned. Luckily, despite te...

To Asher’s surprise, only seconds after he’d launched into his explanation about how the Head of the Guild was personally testing him, Bordan silenced him with a gauntlet-clad hand.

And so it was Asher found himself floating along beside the apprentice truthseeker as she followed Bordan deeper into the city. While the larger t...

The last time Vin had paid Gorlim a visit with the intention of pulling answers from the cunning man, Golrim had thrown him for a loop by revealing his entire skeleton had been turned into a conglomeration of runic objects, allowing him to bypass their truth-gem among other things. Asher simply stood there for a few moments, trying to get his racing heartbeat under control as he thought over everything Owl had told him. The fact that Samantha and Brian had been put at risk simply because the Head of the Guild wanted to test him largely diminished any sort of pride he would have felt at his skills being recognized by what sounded like one of the more powerful people in the entire kingdom.

Asher’s victory was short lived, as despite the fact that he’d taken down his target, her body was still flying at him with all the speed of an out of control skier. Her corpse slammed into his chest, knocking the wind out of him as he and the body were sent tumbling to the ground and skidding across the ice. Groaning, Asher rolled the woman’s corpse off of him, rubbing his sore backside that had slammed into the cold, hard earth.

Provided one didn’t include the guard that was positioned outside who, for whatever reason, currently looked like he was trying to stare in any direction other than toward Vin.

The moment time sped back up, a few things happened in quick succession. Asher was already low on energy and didn’t want to burn through even more by activating his Personal Rift while he was in the astral realm. Before he’d even landed, he’d yanked a vial from his rift.

For the first time ever, Vin was the first one to arrive at the council meeting. After waving hello at Linda and leaving her to help a crafter put in what sounded like an application for some sort of pickling shop within town, Vin entered the newly built council room and grabbed one of the open chairs. The hunter was in light sleep clothes to help ward away the chill in the night air, and she squinted as she tried to examine him in the darkened room. Vin was surprised to be greeted by an unfamiliar face when he entered the town hall. And not just because he didn’t recognize them, but by the black bracelets wrapped around her wrists as well.
