Not Amused

I've been studying a fair bit of anime drawings lately and one thing I've noticed is just how interesting the eyes always seem to be. It's pretty consistent, across many different artists, and it has been for as long as I've enjoyed anime. For the longest time, I've struggled to understand exactly HOW the artists create the effect. Even watching tutorials on it, I've never been able to wrap my brain around it. I had a general understanding of the use of the white shines and the sort of two-to...

More Kiera practice

I think this weekly practice is good for me.  At least the women I draw are starting to look a little more effeminate, instead of just looking like men with long hair.

Ehhh... It's only a little fire.  She'll be FINE.

Max and Kiva

This is a page that got cut from Chapter 3, which is going to start being posted to Patreon in November.  It's a little bit spoilery, just don't look too closely!

As a reminder, I'm also going to start charging you again starting in November... once per month.  I appreciate your support and love.  :3

Riley Minicomic 1

I've talked a lot before about Riley, but this is the first time I think I've actually shown off her personality and demeanor.  Well, one of them.  She's a bit of a complicated mess.  :P

Payment Change Notification and Future Plans

Taking this break from the comic has been good for me.  I've been sketching a lot, stretching my brain with various mental tasks, doing some reading and even some scripting.  I made a little game, met some cool people on DeviantArt who are into bondage.
It's been a good break, but the story of God Slayers, Kiva's story, must continue.
Here's my plan.  Starting in November when the comic relaunches, I'm going to be switching this Patreon to a monthly payment plan.  Fr...

Work continues behind the scenes, mostly on improving my art!  I've been kind of neglecting my Patreon lately, but don't worry, it hasn't been forgotten.  Here's a page from my sketchbook!

Kiera Then and Now

I was just doodling last night and I realized how similar the pose was to the one from Page 3 of God Slayers, so I decided to compare the two.

I've still got a lot of room for improvement, but I'm really happy with how easy it was for me to draw such an improved version of the character.

Kiva - Six Years Ago

Six years ago - the last time Kiva used his Vim before the start of the comic.

As of this posting, I still haven't really revealed what Kiva's Vim IS or how it works, so this is just a bit of a glimpse into what it might be.  I'm still not ready to spoil it in any great detail... but... suffice it to say, it can win him battles.

Even Kiera is afraid of it, but not because he'd ever use it on her.  She's afraid of what it might do regardless.

Lore Page Mockup

Work is still continuing on the lore page.  At least for the characters portion of it.  It'll probably just have the three main characters on it at first, but more to come as I feel they become important.

Hey, it's Max!

Work has begun the Character lore page for the main site.  I figured I'd share some of the progress with my Patrons!  It's been awhile since I've done anything significantly exclusive for you guys, so here you go.

Background

I'm going to try to keep up with posting weekly things just because I don't want anyone to think I've gone anywhere.  These posts will be free, so don't worry.

You might have noticed, however, that my backgrounds suck, especially by the end of Chapter 2, so I wanted to take some time to practice just drawing the environment.  I still need practice, but this is a start.

The Future of God Slayers

I'm going to be pausing my release schedule for a bit so I can rebuild my backlog of finished pages, reevaluate the pricing model for Patreon, and generate some of the extra lore content I want to make available on the main site.

My backlog of finished pages has been slowly shrinking since I launched in August.  I've been, for the most part, almost able to keep up with the one-per-week release, but only barely, and when you factor in all the weeks we've gone travel...

End Chapter 2

Did you think we forgot about Max?  Oh, we didn't forget about Max.

Decided to squeeze one last page in before ending Chapter 2 officially.  This makes it a different sort of cliffhanger, one with at least a LITTLE more implied civility.

Hope you all enjoyed my silly little prank.  :P

ORIGINAL POST:  I have a few problems that are starting to become a serious hurdle to continuing the comic.
While I'm recovering from surgery, I haven't had hardly any time to draw... so I'm rapidly falling behind on available comics to post.   Furthermore, it has been brought to my attention that before the end of Chapter 2, Kiva's story has gotten really, really dark, and perhaps that's not quite the dir...

Sketch dump

It's been awhile since I've done anything exclusive for my beloved Patrons.  So here's some warmup sketches I did for Chapter 3.

Trying to sort of fix how I do eyes and ears.  Still needs a lot of work, but it's an improvement overall, I think.

It occurs to me that this little side-story arc might have deviated a bit too much from the actual story of the comic... the point was to try and show more of the world off by following along with a typical Kiva work-day.  Oh well... this chapter is wrapping up soon, and before it does, we're gonna dive headfirst back into the main conflict.

This image... I'm really proud of.  Which is good, following the last few that have kind of been personally disappointing.

This image also took me an age and a half to draw.  But I learned a lot about doing backgrounds and layers and all that wreckage you see back there.

I dropped the ball on this one, didn't plan around our week of travelling, and wound up delivering it late, so... what the hell, you guys can just have this week for free.

Delayed... just a little bit.

So, we are in Arizona camping this week, then we went up to Flagstaff to visit my dearest friends, and they got like 36 inches of snow. And I've been enjoying the trip and relaxing and then I realized it's Monday and I need to post a Patreon comic! And I thought, oh no problem at all! Lemme just DO that from my phone! Problem is, this week's comic is missing some final touches.

So ima just post it when we get home on Wednesday. Sorry for the delay!

This one... yeah.  I don't want to rip into it TOO hard.  Suffice to say this is the one I said I lost after nearly finishing it the first time.  Then I had to redo it a second time from an early rough sketch.  And it's not great.  But that's okay.  I'd rather look forward to my successes than dwell on my failures.

And to be honest, I am kind of proud of that middle panel.  Forced myself to imagine the scene from another perspective, kind of allowed me...
