Flow

Really flowy time in the river this morning, with song and dance in the water. Also since yesterday I'm noticing a change in birdsong, livelier or chattier perhaps... Imbolc is not far.

Monday morning rain

Total determination to go to the river this morning. Heavy rain in the river felt so good

Unexpected places

Today I met a friend and we went to a super cosy and friendly organic market in a little town in the mountains (the only of its kind in my region- it felt like being abroad!). It was so great to socialise and meet some great humans. I was starving for some face to face interactions and connections like this. Very grateful πŸ™πŸ½

We ended up finding a magical route along the river. Fantastic dip in a superb place, full of mosses and lichen, and gnarly branches. Perfect day.

It's still winter of course

Yesterday sun was a treat πŸ™πŸ½ it even felt warm outside for a bit. After 10 minutes in the water, my red legs didn't lie!

Nearly swimming in the hail

Yesterday I didn't have time for a dip until the afternoon. When I was driving back home it started hailing strongly, and to imagine swimming while hailing got me excited (not so much the logistics of getting my clothes soaked with air temp of 3 degrees). The window of hail stopped as I was walking towards the river, sheltered unted a big blue bag. The light and colours were crisp and clean. The dip a joy, very necessary, revitalising. I definitely felt lighter.

Post swim gear!

I never tried one of those incredible pieces of gear to stay dry and warm after s swim, that I used to see in the UK (with incredible prices too)... I guess the feeling must be very cosy... The closest I've been is this towel gown, which feels like a hug after a swim. Gone are the days of trying to dry with a microfibre towel in winter (especially under the rain) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

How do you dry yourself after a swim in winter?

Crane, tree...

Very great time in the river. Air temp below 5. Fresh for sure. I did some gardening before so I was feeling nice and warm beforehand.
I stayed 7 minutes in the water, immersing, walking, doing some poses inspired by Qigong and yoga .. fun times!

The hand gesture is an interpretation of the image of the crane... And you can see a very red leg doing tree!

Glorious contrast

Today I went to the woods to gather natural materials for the bug hotel we made yesterday. Depite the low temperatures, sun was out and wow, really made me sweat on the way back. First thing was to go for a swim. It was revitalising, high contrast between the very cold water and the heated skin. I went in twice, the second time truly enjoyable, really acclimatised to the temperature. In between I sat on the shore feeling the current, noticing sounds, light, birds... Glorious

Under the weather

Trusting these waters to heal. It might sound counterintuitive but I'm still bathing despite being a bit under the weather. My body is still asking for this winter immersions. Hoping to be giving myself what I need in all levels... And now a bit of fire cider to keep balancing efforts out!

What are your natural remedies to keep colds/cough at bay? Take care!

Post swim habits and rituals

What part of you body do you dry first, when you have a towel? Does it change depending on the weather, temperature...?

I believe I always start with my hair. And if I don't have a towel, I shake my head as if I was a dog after a dip, or a wolf, obviously...

Being silly on a grey day

It took me a while to get down to the river today; grey, wet and chilly day. When I got there the rain pretty much stopped and my anticipations of uncomfortability where vanished. Our minds love creating scenarios sometimes. Glad that I went, I felt lighter, silly, playful, and this feelings carry on. Water is such a enlivening element!

May you have a playful day!

Red crab in the Southern wind

An unexpected strong warm Southern wind arrived yesterday so it was easy to get distracted in the water. Allured by it I stayed there very happily, immersed in the river in the sound of the moving trees. Becoming a content red crab in the Southern wind.

Last wildswim of 2023

Sending love on this last day of 2023. I hope you have a nourishing day and night, maybe remembering and reflecting about the year, in community or in solitude.

I'm particularly not going to do anything out of the ordinary; I love the ordinary at this very moment, the ordinary that is full of wonder, beauty, magic...

Has anyone been for a swim today? Or with the intention to do it tomorrow to start 2024?

Sending you all my deepest gratitude for your support over the mont...

Bliss

Some more pictures of yesterday... Of my second swim after having been on a coastal walk. It was pure bliss, to arrive at the beach all heated up and go to the sea. Playful, invigorating and relaxing at the same time. I finish my time there doing Qigong (clothes needed as times was passing, still winter!)

Days of peace and rest, and sea

This is what we're up these days... peace, rest and sea, with the van πŸ’™

We finally found the dinosaur footprints, amazing. So incredible to imagine the size of this one given the shape of the print. Traveling back in time and being in awe...

Yule

Merry Yule everyone! This time for me this year is for reconnecting with the sea, to slow down, rest, go with the flow, and find nourishment. Such peaceful places πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’™

A very symbolic swim this morning, in this turning point of moving to lighter days in the northern hemisphere... A swim nearly blinded by the light!

Clearing up

Water is clearing up again, and kiwi leaves finally crumbling and getting ready to fall. Everything in it's flow.

Winter solstice blessings! Do you celebrate the solstice? ❀️

Surprise

I was not expecting this currents today! Massive change in the flow, muddiness, force... Today my dip was very close to the shore, admiring the strength of the river, watching logs rapidly flow by... with the comfort of wearing my shoes and gloves (i just can't believe how comfy it is now! Lol)

New gear

First time I use neoprene gloves and shoes and wow, what a difference!

It was just easy to get in, as if I normally would feel most of the cold through the lense of my feet and hands... These parts have been struggling to warm up at all this season, and it feels great to protect them from the icy water and without needed to limit my wildswimming experiences.

It was so enjoyable to be able to stay in a bit longer, and in comfort πŸ™πŸ½

Do you use them? What are your tho...

Frosty morning

This morning we had a lovely frost in the fields (nasturtiums do look a bit flap... ). I waited for the sun for my dip and some tasty Qigong in my beloved spot. I really noticed many more birds than usual, and so much easier to spot because of the bare trees... Some robins, chiffchaffs, dippers, buzzard, crows... Out in the sun we're having these days! πŸ™πŸ½

Yesterday's dip

A very wintery Asturian day yesterday, of thick mist, humid air... Great to wake up and feel energised for some time during the day. Ended up being a lovely day ☺️

I hope your weekend is being lovely too!

Aliveness

Cold and joy. So glad to feel some sun on the skin while immersing on very chilly water. These days I'm in the water aprox 5 minutes, sometimes a bit more, depending. Some days I go in 2-3 times in a row, and it's incredible the difference in acclimatisation.

I'm waiting for some neoprene gloves and shoes to arrive soon; I'll let you know!

May you start the weekend with aliveness!

and again, and again... I didn't go early in the morning (i wonder if I could have seen the river in the thick mist!) but after I ran some errands. So cleansing πŸ™πŸ½β˜ΊοΈ

Winter veggies!

I feel so grateful for living in a place where I can grow veggies and go for a dip straight away. We are not growing many veggies right now (and pretty much all our cabbages and Brussels sprouts were devoured by snails... At least they ate them!), but still some tasty ones, today I picked some celery, cavolo nero and a few leaves of the local variety of kale, 'berza'

Very chilly day, a swim under the rain, now from home I can see some sunny spells... Cleansed and cosy feel (despite hav...

Swimming in the mist

The atmosphere this morning was particularly mystical; dim light, mist, grey sky, drizzle, and trees who become barer. Lovely swim with robin song in the background.

Moody Monday

This morning I wasn't feeling going to the river. I found my will thanks to a friend who went to his lake today many km away. It was worth it; as ever. Washing away some heaviness in the heart, releasing sound and emotion, I felt held in this cold paradise.
Sharing is caring πŸ’™
