v7c25

The sight of Pale Moon Lake City on the horizon filled the Lord Magistrate’s gut with complicated emotions. It churned unpleasantly in time with the gentle rocking of the carriage he sat within.

It had been near thirty years since he had last seen the city of his birth—it looked less changed than he thought it would. While the outer boroughs had some differences, the main skyline hadn’t changed at all. The Palace still dominated. The governmental buildings rose tall. The manors of...

v7c24: Wandering a Giant

“Your benevolence surpasses all others, Master Jin; we can only express our deepest gratitude,” Delan said, bowing deeply to me. We were standing at the gates to the sect, and everyone was lined up again to see us off.

Delan still seemed a bit awestruck by everything that had happened with the Ironfields. While me fixing the water and the rust near the settlements was the most obvious thing I had done, there was also the fact that Mei had impressed healing upon her ‘new family’,...

v7c23: Old Terrors

A great Empress sat within her fortress. She was surrounded by a legion of her soldiers; from the fresh faced newbrood to the grizzled veterans to the massive, armored forms of her Immortals.

All were silent, for their Empress was in a rather foul mood.

A simple task, it was only a simple task! Vajra snarled in the sanctity of her own mind. Her daughters could feel some of her agitation, but not the full embarrassment their Empress felt.

What had begun as a...

v7c22: Cycles of Peace

Happy New Year everybody! I'm back!

First thing: Chapter 21 has been edited to completely change the opening, and add the Lord Magistrate to the chapter. His presence was missed.

Now, on to the Chapter!

===================

===================

There was always something special about the last moments before sunrise. Fa Bi De sat upon the roof of his home in the pre-dawn darkness, looking up at the moon.

He had stayed up most of the night, for the fir...

The beginning of this chapter has been edited, due to lack of Lord Mgistrate. New chapter later tonight!
=================================================
Xan Boshi, the Lord Magistrate of Irontown studied the document in front of him intently. It should be his last piece of work of the day, and he was glad for it. The past week had been very busy.  Master Delan had a very important guest visiting him. A powerful cultivator, named Master Jin.

Master Jin was a bit of ...

v7c20: Till the Land

She who had been granted the title “Bane of the Black Lances” sat in repose atop the mobile hive that conveyed the Emperor on his travels. They were on the move again, following the little lord of these barbarous, untamed lands. His form was not entirely displeasing, but comparing his might to the might of the Emperor was utterly laughable. He was small, but at least he knew his place—he heeded the Emperor well, did his commands swiftly, and crafted for him what he desired; and thus his...

v5c29: The Wicked Blade Special

There was a flash of movement, and the Puppet Worm's head jerked back suddenly as something impacted it with tremendous force. Such was the power of the blow that Zang Zeng's body skipped off the ground once before the Puppet Worm righted itself, the creature twitching.

Huian's jaw dropped as they beheld the one who had struck the Puppet Worm.

He was tall, freckled, and well-muscled. H...

“How did it feel, forging the Spirit Metal? I felt the Qi, but directly handling it?” Tigu demanded of Handsome Man, while wiping his brow with a cloth. He looked exhausted from the forging; everyone who had taken part did. They had poured every ember of their Qi into heating the great forge and hammering the metal. It had taken eight hours to forge the Spirit Iron.

Handsome Man chuckled, and leaned into t...

v7c18: Song of the Forge

After a brief rest, we were invited back to meet with the Tie family. We were guided to the main hall of the sect. The table was a giant marble slab instead of metal, the Sect’s symbol charged into the center of it. It was myself, Meimei, Tigu, Babe and Washy, Zhuye having tuckered himself out and was taking a nap with Suyan. I was carrying a long bag with me, which got a few glances.

“Master Jin, Lady Meiling, please,” Delan said, gesturing to the other end of the table.

v7c17: Iron Chefs

The food here in the Ironfields was interesting—like the humans who lived here, basically everything had developed a way to handle the heavy metals in their diet, leaving the meat much less contaminated than it should have been.

There were river fish that were steamed in their own iron-laced scales, the flesh tender and flaky, and served with a wonderful sweet and sour sauce. Roast boar, where the “wire brush coat” was somewhat literal—people used batches of skin with the ...

v7c16: A Man has Three Masks

Our carriage trundled up the road toward the Hermetic Iron Sect. The bee behind Washy’s ear had relayed to Bane of the Black Lances that our message had been received, so we set off again. We hadn’t actually spent much time in Iron Town, but the short time had been pretty interesting.

The streets were paved with beaten brass, rather than flagstones. You could see the paths most people took, because they were burnished to a warm, orange-yellow shine compared to the duller metal besid...

v7c15: Master of Iron

Tie Delan, Sectmaster of the Hermetic Iron Sect, hammered upon the red hot metal on his anvil. He held it still with his bare hand so that he could feel the heat; and each driving blow from his hammer kept the metal at that perfect temperature as it was being shaped.

It was a soothing action he had done many thousands of times; here, in the forge, all his worries faded away, and all that was left was the song of steel and the shower of sparks.

He was forging a simple thing; a chis...

v7c14: Rusting Iron

Sheng Yanjing, Auditor General of the Azure Hills, was still wondering if this was some strange dream. Had he slipped and hit his head on that fateful night when he had gone to confront the Lord Magistrate? Had he imagined the arrival of the Imperial Herald? Was he some drooling fool laying on a bed somewhere in Verdant Hill?

He knew in his heart that this was just idle musing. This was real. He was now a co-conspirator in a scheme to bring down his once-benefactors. He was also being t...

v7c13: First Step, to the First Stop

Okay, I have two minor screw ups to correct/clarify. Firstly, I made some changes to chapter 6; Instead of coming immediately with the party, Biyu and Yun Ren still have some stuff to do before they finish everything Gou Ren asked them to, so instead of leaving now, they’re going to be coming down a bit later, during the summer downtime.

Secondly, I fixed a conversation between Chyou and TLM, they are not traveling together to the city, Chyou and Bo are going ahead

From v5c46: Reap the Harvest

Chixia screamed again as she was dragged deep below the earth. She hit hard ground and turned—only to see three forms looming above her.

One was a woman, who looked like a shattered statue, repaired with gold.

One was a man. He stood with his arms crossed. A rack of antlers adorned his head, and a mantle of woven rice stalks and red leaves were upon his back.

Miss Guan Chyou had been enamoured with the Spirit Beast’s new style of mixing glass and pottery and the Spirit Beast had deemed it fit to part with some of his smaller pieces.
