Marshal Boores rubbed his chin.
“Traitors to humanity. That’s a bold accusation.”
“Not an accusation, yet. For now its just a cold fact. First I’d like to give a sequence of events.”
He waved, signaling his assent.
That’s when John reached out and set down an insignia. It was the bloodied patch from Major General Quill’s Glimmers. The somber atmosphere turned down further, everyone reminded that they had lost such a valuable asse...

Gurns tapped his foot on the floor, standing by a pillar and waiting as a Rail car rolled in.
When it opened, a few dozen people disembarked. Last to get off was a blonde girl.
He watched her walk. She naturally had a faint presence but it was nothing that he couldn’t see through. Besides that, she looked generally neutral. A mostly expressionless face gazed around, her beauty catching several eyes. She looked like she didn’t have a care in the world, but to Gurn...

Our return to the outpost was difficult. Not because we encountered intercepting Scourge forces but because we hadn’t even counted our dead before we were forced to leave one battlefield for another.
Nonnen was pissed, but because he was pissed I couldn’t find it in myself to be the same. It was starting to feel like a desperate situation.
The Lancer Brigadier, whose name I learned was Jay, was working overtime trying to heal the wounded as...

A week passed and the battle against the flanking Scourge forces rapidly escalated.
It was never meant to be drawn out anyway. We needed to defeat them fast, but it was critical that we find a balance between urgency and caution. Blindly rushing into any battle would just result in a loss far more devastating than taking our sweet time.
Thankfully though, my performance during the battle alongside the Snow Doves had made it known once again...

After another couple days passed and I had gotten caught up with all affairs, the Pathfinders returned from their latest mission. They had been doing recon as most platoons were, but that would soon be changing.
It was almost like they were waiting for me to return. I had guessed that the Generals were priming for an offensive, but I hadn’t expected it to come so soon. I thought we would consolidate all the incoming troops first, but they didn’t se...

Dirk’s Domain kept him perfectly hidden. As a perfect Domain, it could be active at all times and would drain none of his energy. If anything, it supplemented him, providing vast benefits for free. There was no reason he shouldn’t have it active almost all the time, especially while working.
Despite her now having a Key Artifact, Ava was unable to realize he was there. However, that wasn’t for lack of power. Dirk still remembered a particular detail about the Rangifer, Ava...

The first thing I noticed when I stepped out of the terminal at the Treehouse was the massive amount of people moving around, either leaving the Rail to report to their superiors or moving cargo and supplies from the loading bays. Extremely few people were leaving.
The second thing I noticed was the additional wall around the base. The place was becoming a city, with two dozen buildings being erected for all the new personnel. Even the headquarte...

Hello all! I wanna apologize for Thursdays chapter being late. I've been Uber busy these past 6 days and haven't been able to work on anything. For the first time in months I've reached the end of my backlogs. It's tragic.
Im about to get freed up though so I'll be working on it tonight. Hopefully I'll have it out before midnight but worst case it comes out tomorrow.
Once again, so sorry. I don't like waiting any more than you guys lol. I wanna see what happens soon.
Cheers!

“I’ve been approached.”
“Oh? Another confessor?”
“Please. It was someone from special operations. I recognized the uniform.”
“Hm.”
Umara lifted her nose from one of her Grimoires. Tana recognized yet another one of John’s texts from the words within. He wrote in a particularly distinct way, though it was mainly the esoteric vocabulary that gave it away.
“Are you being scouted?”
“Pretty sure. My concern is you though. I would ...

After a good nights rest that solidified my advancement from the day before, I went to visit the Magic Spire for the very first time.
It was the nexus for the Kingdom’s magical research and development. For summoners like me, it would usually be the next step after graduating from the Magisterium. Those who were subpar were sent to the military instead to become intelligence personnel.
The Magic Spire was just that. It was a monolithic sp...

“Finally. Authority 6…”
I let out a long, comfortable breath. My eyes opened, having unknowingly closed at some point.
Even with my eyes open, I could still see the entirety of my Mind Palace. It felt like every image I took into my eyes was projected through that palace and stowed away into film. I found it quite amazing how I could remember every tiny little detail, knowing that I would be able to recall this day years from now in perfect ...

The rail slowed into the terminal.
I stood from my seat, stepping up to the doors as they started to open.
I couldn’t help the bright smile when I saw the familiar terminal of the Capital. It was summer and I could feel that nice warm breeze warm my face, heating up the cold atmosphere the rail carried from Stronghold Charlie.
I stepped out.
“Man FUCK the snow! I didn’t realize how much I could miss warm weather...

“Polly will present your report to General Viskar.”
Jasmine muttered, her hand around my arm as we walked to my room. She was just comforting me but it was welcome.
“They’ll have their minds on things for a while so your work will slow. I’ll also take care of that recon mission around the mountain. So just rest. You’ve done more than enough.”
“...Give me two or three days.”
I turned my head, looking down at Jasmine af...

I sat on my bundle of blankets and sheets, leaning against the wall with an Orb in front of me.
Sitting in the cradle, the Orb projected the image of my advancement formation into the air. I started at it for a bit longer before shutting it down and closing my eyes.
My hand lifted before I drew it across the air, opening my eyes back up to see lines, runes, and circuits manifesting before me.
It formed a complete circular fo...

I saw a bird high in the sky, almost obscured by the shining sun. It had been getting a tad bit warmer so now we occasionally got clear skies. This was one of those days.
However, the odd thing about the presence of a bird was the fact that I hadn’t seen even a single wild creature in months. The Scourge was wreaking so much havoc that no wildlife could possible survive in the area. They had either migrated south or had died.
The...

4 months passed within the Sanctuary.
Dirk flipped through a few more pages in a book before reaching the end and shutting it. Spyte chimed when that happened.
[Last book complete.]
“Finally. With that and everything out of that orb…”
Dirk looked around. Yumia’s library was vast, and it contained vast knowledge regarding magic.
However, the books he went through weren’t always magical. He didn’t forget his objective. He needed to col...

Over the next couple days, Jasmine and I were swamped with work. Despite being a Major General’s advisor, or perhaps because of that, we were pulled in every direct in an attempt to orient all the intelligence agents within the Treehouse.
It wasn’t enough to just give the Major General some information whenever he needed it. By his order, we had to make sure that everyone below him was capable of carrying out his orders when he gave them. That ...

“Alright, do as I do and generally, we shouldn’t be speaking unless spoken to. You can’t treat these people as any ordinary intelligence agents. You need to look proper, talk proper, act proper, and don’t step out of line.”
Jasmine rattled off her advice as we walked into headquarters. Both of us were in our Glimmers, yet thankfully weren’t sticking out since there were triple the amount of summoners in headquarters after the reinforcement...

After the Chiefs were inserted into enemy territory, and after I was picked up at my rendezvous, us Pathfinders and the Snow Doves all hightailed it out of the area.
There was no longer any reason for us to be out in the boonies, so our next objective was to get back to the Treehouse and get a read on the situation.
Thanks to the Snow Doves, we could move just about however we wanted. We didn’t have to worry about getting into any fig...

“You’ve included one of his reports?”
“Mm. Second bundle.”
“Hmm…”
Talexia reclined in her seat, raising the three bundles of papers in front of her. They were military reports composed by one of the generals underneath her and gave an in depth overview of the ongoing situation across her domain.
Of course, there was nothing stopping her from retrieving reports from elsewhere. Even though John wasn’t under her purview, all it took was a few calls...

I stuffed the dried meat from my ration into my mouth, spending a while chewing before swallowing with discontent. It was getting annoying, eating the same thing every day. Thankfully we were able to catch the occasional wild animal, giving us a good eat for a night or two. No matter how much we brought in though, the knights were always quick to engorge themselves. Stupid knights.

Flickers. They were said to be the nemesis of the Scourge. Perhaps it was actually the other way around. Either way, they were known to travel in groups and hunt those monsters.
I had just witnessed one of their battles. Nothing extraordinary, but it was still amazing to see something so rare. Finding Flickers at all was rare, let alone seeing them do battle.
It seemed they didn’t want anything to do with us though. They had left after f...

The night came.
The Snow Doves had returned, were briefed on their next objectives, and had been sent off once more.
The plans of action regarding the Bombardos and massive Scourge forces getting ready to storm the base were still being pondered upon by the upper echelon.
Pollux and half the Pathfinders were out there collecting tons of information.
And I was about to lead the other half, along with three infiltrators...

Dirk let a drawn out breath of air escape his lips. He stood within a corner of his new home, the library/bedroom that Yumia had allowed him to reside in. It had everything he needed, including a side room for some seclusion.
The side room wasn’t big, and it was completely empty. Dirk decided this would be a good place to make the last step.

We stood around for a minute or so before she took a long, sharp breath.

I stood before the open hatch of a Steed. In front of me, laying on the floor, was the bagged corpse of First Commander Niko.
My new payload, under my personal responsibility, that I needed to bring back to the Stronghold. I’d probably have to get a transport to go back alone and early to take care of it. A waste of a transport unless I arranged some other goods to travel and make it somewhat worth it, but either way, I wasn’t going to disappo...
