It was based on Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', the book, but they didn't get proper licensing, and changed names. They eventually lost in court, and all of the copies of the movie were ordered to be burned!
Thankfully some survived, tucked away.
Without a copy of the original, we wouldn't have the new movie!
