A small update

Hi all- just a very brief update from me (sorry to those who've already seen it in the Discord).

I know there are quite a few things in the pipeline- such as starting the new comms batch, some overdue rewards and the new points system. While I've been doing my best to get these done before the end of the month, the truth is that I've been fairly sick and under the weather for a while and may need to be realistic about needing to slow down.

Starlit - [ FFXIV Commission ]

This was an exceptionally challenging piece, as it forced me to work on several things I'd never tried before- such as dark skin, combined with bright lights, high contrast, high saturation, perspective... it was basically the Rainbow Road of art.

I am so pleased with how colorful it turned out though- it brings me joy every time I look at it now.

Aerith - [ FFVII Remake ]

A little something I've been working on ahead of the release of FFVII. I love this girl so much and man have they done her justice in the new game. Guh, I don't know what to do with all these feels... 

Fun fact: Aerith was also the first piece I ever did digitally, back in 2004 (see thumbnail). Sooo... you could say this is a remake in its own way? 

Fated to Fade - [ FFXIV Commission ]

A long overdue piece for of Ahlis and her equivalent 14th. Despite making me draw 431 tiny windows, I loved working on this illustration if only for the story it tells.

The Artroom Lifestream [ Important Update]

Hello my lovelies. I hope this update finds you well and safe!

I can’t say much for the way March turned itself on its head; at the start of this month I had so many plans and was determined to make some wild life changes and yet I sit here now, debating whether it's even worth changing out of my PJs in the morning. (It is not.)

As it were with myself, I’m sure many of you are going through similar levels of ennui- if not also rejoicing a little that it is finally time to flex...

I'ason Silverlight - [ FFXIV Commission ]

A lovely commission of a sweet-faced, sunseeker miqo'te! This one changed quite a lot from the lineart version to the end version, and from the end version to the 30 versions worth of tweaks that followed. Let it not be said I don't live up to my own meme.

Either way, I think it turned out quite well in the end! The real end. Not the fin1-maybe.jpg end.

Masha Timelapse [ Lineart process / no sound ]

Another lineart process timelapse - this time, for the happy miqo I posted here a few days ago.

In this one you can see how I fumbled the head shape a fair bit towards the start- going for one angle and eventually pushing all features around long enough that she ended up looking head on. Thank God for the liquify tool...

Kaira Timelapse [ Color process / no sound ]

Here's the initial part of the coloring process for this piece! I feel really good about getting more used to working in Procreate, as it allows me to produce these timelapses with minimal effort.

That said, I still find that I'm much more comfortable doing the final tweaks and polishes in Photoshop, which is why this timelapse ends at the point where I felt I couldn't go any further on the iPad and exported it to my desktop.

A very cute, smiley, maid catte! There's something about drawing characters looking happy that just tickles my heart. I'll often find myself imitating the expression that I'm drawing too, which in this case had me nearly dislocating my jaw.

Sometimes in your art career you have pieces that represent the moment you leveled up as an artist, and I think this one is absolutely a milestone for that.

I had SO much fun working on this. Everything- from the lineart to the background was a joy to do and although I'm not one to praise my own work, I am very proud of how it turned out.

Suuuper pleased with how this one turned out, to the point - you better believe it - that there was no fin-2-finnoreally-finfinal.jpg version of this being reuploaded every 1.2 minutes. Truly.

It was also great fun to spirit this piece into existence from a text/loose ref array - especially considering that once upon a time, in a land far far away, I was accused of being a hack who could only draw FFXIV characters from a direct copied ref. Yeaaah, eat your heart out, jackass.

So lately I've been really into 80's outrun and synthwave, which of course means I've spent a lot of time creating music videos in my head, which of course means my WoL featured prominently in them, which in turn had me wildly scribbling this at 10pm last night out of a mighty need to see my girl dressed in something ridiculous.

Man, I haven't had this much fun doodling nonsense in a long time. =]_
