I don't say this often, but I'm in love with how this one turned out. The brief for this character was "jungle boy turned pirate" and so I set myself on this vintage-y tapestry kind of vibe for it. Like something you'd expect to see in a collector's edition of a Jules Vernes book.
I will admit that it took an UNHOLY amount of hours to get all those hair bits right though. Like mother of layering, I was not prepared. My wrist needs a week of bed rest after that.

With this piece I tried to push my rendering skills a bit with this piece. This sort of shading (lineless, more structured around the blend of values) has never been a forte of mine, but I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out considering it's such a simple bust.

A pretty midlander! I loved the simplicity and warmth of this character, and the gentleness of her expression. I normally draw middies with smaller eyes, but the wider, gentler gaze really suited this one. It's also why I really like the colors on the first image (alternative version in the thumbnails), because they're softer and mistief which I think goes quite well with her personality. Which version do you prefer?
On a side note, you wouldn't believe how complicated it is to nail do...

Honestly you just can't give me pretty colors to work with because I become thoroughly irresponsible and let Bob Ross take the wheel. But that said, I think this is probably one of my prettiest pieces to date and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

For this Mystery Box I had an au'ra who I'd drawn before with long hair, so when I saw the short hair this idea came to mind instantly.
Part of it stemmed from a desire to draw something with a subtle dynamism. I really did think this would be easier than it truly ended up being! Something about it being a fairly static pose, yet needing to imply velocity really drove me to a wall.
The other thought behind this idea is that I've always loved the symbolism of cutting one's hair off...

Another Mystery Box. For this one, the reference gave me a viera in steampunk gear, so I decided to turn her into a Steampunk Bun.
The filigree on this one nearly did my head in - particularly as I've recently gone on meds that are making my hands a little unsteady - and I half regretted this idea partway in. A Mystery Box piece, finally! Featuring this lovely lady in a simplified Art Nouveau style.
I don't know if it's super apparent, but I actually credit Art Nouveau with greatly influencing my lineart style, as well as the way I draw hair. It's always been very close to my heart - particularly as my hometown in Spain was notorious for having several Modernist houses-turned-museums that featured this sort of art and architecture.

This one was a challenge! The information I had for this Mystery Box piece was that she was a druid from a bear clan, so initially I wanted to go down a more 'bear transformation' route, but then I couldn't make it really gel the way I wanted to so I kept changing it until boom, surprise constellation theme.
