The triad moved on to the next option. Anthony had been presented with multiple Mythic evolution options at tier seven, and he had even more to select from this time. This was further confirmation to the theory that ants were being rewarded for reaching higher tiers, something that wasn’t expected of their species.
Although, as soon as they examined the next evolution, they had doubts.

WE ARE BACK TO YOUR REGULAR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK! EVOLUTION TIME WHOOOOOOOOOO!
There are many who have dedicated themselves to the art of raising pets to fight on their behalf within the Dungeon. Expensive, time consuming, emotionally draining, mentally taxing, it is not a pursuit for the faint of heart or weak of mind, but for those who truly master it, immense power can be achieved.
From acquiring a core, modifying the core, cre...

Elsbeth walked through the streets of the ruined city and wondered at the change in atmosphere she sensed from the people who inhabited it. Did they feel safe now that Tyron was gone? Were they glad to be out from under his thumb, no longer needing to fear the Necromancer who might turn on them at any moment?
Or perhaps it was the opposite? Was she sensing an air of fragility, of vulnerability, now that their most powerful protector was no longer around?
Their faces were ha...

“We are so fucked,” Dove groaned, collapsing to his knees and planting his bony hands in the skulls beneath him. “Why did you have to bring us here? Do you have any idea what you’ve done? I’ve seen one-copper whores on festival day less fucked than we are!”
Tyron continued his inspection of the surroundings, only half listening as his horde continued to pour through the gate.
The ground around them seemed to undulate, with rises and falls much like the dun...

Got this done while waiting for my plane. More Chrysalis next week! Evolution time babyyyyyy!
It isn’t uncommon for members of the various Cults to debate the merits and strengths of the Ancients as monsters, though with an obvious and significant bias towards their own deity. When debating who is the physically strongest of the Ancients, Rigorite and Yarrum are usually the two names that are first raised.
Although Rigorite, formed of living metal, ...

Well, well, well.
Litrpg con was my first event, my first time travelling to the USA (since I was... 10?) and holy moly, a lot went down.
First off, I have to say a huge thank you to any of you here who came up and said hello, I know there's a few of you. It was awesome to chat to the readers of Chrysalis and Book of the Dead, shake your hand and say thank you in person for the awesome support.
Every panel I was on I was able to call out "for the Colony!" and get a warm re...

Hopefully one more tonight. I hoped to have all mutations done so I could do the first evolution chapter this week, but didn't quite get there.
Sorry!
Thanks for all the notes on the last chapter status page. Many updates have been made. i'll post his full status post mutations for you all tomorrow.
Carriflare, for some reason, has many stories and legends passed down amongst their followers. Either the Kindling Cult of ...

One of the most deeply contested grudges amongst the Cults is held between the followers of Theorazzn and Morribolg of the Fetid Earth.
Perhaps this reflects the long-held myth that the two Ancients themselves are bitter rivals who competed over the fifth stratum, trying to find who would succeed in the race to paint it in their own image.
Morribolg is said to be a creature of water, earth and death, a unique combination that came to be known as ‘Fet...

Syssernix the Dark Spear is one of the more mysterious Ancients, a trait adopted by their Cult. The followers of the Dark Spear are almost impossible to find, a secretive organisation that operates primarily amongst the brathian, who surface for reasons known only to them before they vanish once more.
What little is known is that Syssernix is a creature of shadow and water, suspected to have been born in the second stratum, which would make them perhaps the youngest ...

Author note: My travels start tomorrow and its become clear I'm not going to manage to maintain the schedule this week.
So, a compromise. Chrysalis this week, BoD the next, then back to normal. I apologise for not being able to keep up the post frequency. I'd attempted to get far enough ahead so I could have the week done in advance, but it just hasn't happened.

When Rolan returned from the realm of his gods, it was clear that they had taken his soul. His eyes were glazed over, sightless, and he shambled like a zombie as he shuffled forward.
A little disappointed, Tyron took the enchanted stone, the latest version of what he had come to call a ‘soul trap’ from his pocket and checked it. As he suspected, it was empty. Whatever the gods had done, it had circumvented his attempt to ensnare Rolan's soul should it leave his body.

As a member of the Cult of the Worm myself, I believe it is most appropriate to begin with what is known of Yarrum. There are, of course, many tales passed down within the cult regarding the feats the Eternal Worm achieved while on the surface, but it is difficult to know which have some basis in reality.
Yarrum is said to have drunk an ocean, consuming all of the water and monsters who had dwelled within. This is a surprisingly common tale, to the point where some r...

The powers of the Ancients are legendary, even among those who know them best: the cults who worship and serve them. If one were to ask the Cult of the Worm what Yarrum was capable of, they would attest to the incredible strength of the monster, able to crush mountains by wrapping around them and squeezing. Or perhaps they would wax lyrical about the dreaded maw of the great worm, with teeth able to rend anything apart, be it rock, steel or diamond.
However, none of these c...

To create a path from one realm to another was no simple thing. The more Tyron learned about it, the more he appreciated the elegance of the three rituals he learned from the Anathema Class. They were able to slice through the veil and establish their desired paths while making it seem relatively straight forward.
In designing his own ritual, Tyron had learned that it was no simple whatsoever. Cutting through the veil was the relatively simple part of the equation, using ma...

“How bad is it?” Corun asked.
Granin took his hand off the dark purple carapace and grunted.
“I won’t make a song and dance about it. It’s bad.”
Corun looked shocked, but Torrina only nodded, her expression grim.
“What are the options? There has to be something we can do, otherwise you wouldn’t have agreed to come here,” she asked him.
Granin grunted again and folded his arms, thinking.

I don’t like travelling with Brilliant. Her little… dimensional hops, or whatever she wants to call them, leave me feeling nauseous and headachy. Even trying to imagine how the process works is enough to make my brains throb. How did she even figure out how to do this?! There weren’t any ants in the Colony who had any knowledge of different dimensions, and now Brilliant is out there swimming through them like a particularly loud and annoying eel.
“Are we there yet?” I g...

Solant watched as the last of the Krath resistance was swept from the field. They’d lasted longer than she’d expected, a testament to how tenacious they were as enemies. She had a respect for the slug tribes. As enemies, they were everything the little general could ask for: cunning, vicious, willing to sacrifice in order to achieve victory, canny in the ways they utilised their advantages.
Their defeat in this campaign was simply a matter of planning. Solant had prepared for...

“I still think we should do this with cores,” Annita said.
Master Willhem, floating nearby, nodded in agreement.
“In this instance, I’m afraid I must respectfully disagree with the two Masters,” Tyron said.
They’d been needling him about the power mechanism for the last hour. First with hinting, then with suggestions. When those hadn’t worked, the two had turned to asking more directly, asserting their shared opinion with supporting technical...

When he awoke, Tyron took the minimum of time to wash and eat before he rushed back to work, too excited with his current project to wait any longer than that. He was still stuffing the remains of a baked potato in his face when he arrived at the entrance to the Ossuary and pushed open the door.
The wyvern, rather expectedly, hadn’t moved from the day before, still laid out over the altar. Wiping his hands on his robe, Tyron quickly rushed over to inspect it, making sure there ...

“Where is Zluth?” Soluzz bellowed.
The other Krath’lath had remained close to him, cowards and fools, all of them, but at least he had seen Zluth out fighting. That scout had shown he was a capable Krath’lath, though still young, and Soluzz had plans for him, a pawn to extend the power of the Zissth even further, but now he was nowhere to be seen.
“He ran away,” Ulizz spat, “fled to preserve himself.”

The Krath were losing. No matter how many times they beat back the armoured ants, they kept coming back, climbing up the walls, throwing themselves recklessly forward, as if they didn’t care if they lived or died. Even when they seemed like they were about to fall, even when it seemed like they couldn’t take any more, they started… burning, catching fire from within, and then they were fine. And then they came again.
Even that was better than the bigger ones, with the mushr...

Alright, this is getting silly. How much of this liquid mana did Solant make inside the fortress?! The flow bursting out of the vents hasn’t weakened in the slightest, the jets are several metres thick! This is liquid mana! I didn’t even know that was a thing!
Forget about condensed mana, this is condensed, condensed. I almost can’t believe how dense it is. The power contained within is absolutely crazy. The only time I’ve ever seen anything with more de...

Leeroy was enjoying the battle, an emotion she usually didn’t get to experience. For the most part, the Immortals didn’t get to fight like this. They usually charged until they got bogged down, then slugged it out with whatever they were against, right up until their Phoenix Fire Organs kicked in and healed them, allowing them to get stuck in all over again. At this point, most opponents found they’d had enough.
The unusual terrain in the heart, along with the massive weigh...

Hey there folks.
A special edition of Chrysalis is being put together for kickstarter later in the year and I had a question regarding the style of art you would like to see in the book.
There are all sorts of features being proposed, like a beastiary and a fancy leather cover etc, but this is the one thing I want feedback on immediately.
What sort of art style do you want to see in the special edition?

It is not the purpose or mission of the Nameless Ones to use their abilities to fight on behalf of the Colony.
Formed by a cadre of dedicated, some would say fanatical, ants of all castes, with the guidance of the Shadow, their stated goal has always been to enforce the will of the Eldest upon those who insufficiently respect it. Within the Colony, there is no infraction more common than failing to abide by the regulations regarding rest.

If the ants kept flooding into the heart, then the fight was completely lost. Zluth had grasped the numbers the insects had brought to the fifth while scouting their cursed platform. Rank after rank emerged from within the walls, no matter how many were injured or forced to fall back.
With so many Krath still at the fortress, they couldn’t hope to compete with a tenth of what the cursed insects could bring to bear. They had to be stopped.
Zluth twisted himself ar...

It wasn’t long into the battle before most of the platforms the Zissth had constructed were completely destroyed. The armoured ants, in their insane zeal, had smashed everything they could in their charge, latching onto the Krath’s trained monsters, forcing themselves into their mouths, or simply flinging themselves into the air, dragging their victims down with them.
Now Zluth could see the cursed creatures were slowly pulling themselves up the walls of the heart, eager to t...

Such a large creature demanded an absurd amount of weaving. The musculature of the monster was easily ten times that of a human, and Tyron was determined to do all of it as precisely and completely as he could. That meant using the rope techniques to create stronger fibres for the tendons and certain muscle groups, particularly around the shoulders and back.
It was extremely laborious work and he was at it for hours, not trusting anyone else with any part of the task. There...

It wasn’t easy to create a ritual that would pierce the Dimensional Veil to another realm. A great deal of power was required, the spellwork had to be incredibly precise and messing it up could create fluctuations that had very serious consequences. At worst, one could tear an opening to the Abyss and let through something that would promptly dissolve the body of the caster into a fine mist.
Tyron wasn’t keen on fighting an Abyssal just because his work was poor, so he worked...

Soon after the Immortals somehow ran into the air on a golden road, they started coming back down again. Not particularly gently, either. With enemies gripped in their mandibles, the armour clad ants are literally dragging their opponents to the floor of the heart, crashing into the liquid mana with tremendous force and holding their victims down as the purified energy breaks them down.
Honestly, if the liquid hadn't risen so high, I think the fall would have been enough...
