Fixed SB Issues

Often had SB issues since I would make minor changes and forget to fix everything:
Added the SB Checker just to make sure its always equal from now on
The SB Guide will likely be on Google Sheets from now on:

Expected Content in the next two weeks

Pioneer:

I will likely not make any changes for SCG Cincinnati with UW Lotus Field. I think the list is pretty strong so far and the core is there. The green splash gives a slight edge against some matchups without hurting the core at all. That said, Tamiyo and Finale of Revelation are very much flex spots. You can for example cut those and play 4 Impulse/Joint Exploration. I think we are at a point where you can all now choose what you prefer to play in terms of: Impulse/Censor/Joint Exploration/Dragonlord Dromoka, etc. There are a lot of flex spots and they all come down to personal preference.

As for Modern:

The PT decklists are required to be submitted on Wednesday July 26, 2023 at 12:00 PM Barcelona Time.

With that in mind:

I will have scheduled my list to be published here on Patreon for the same time on July 26.

There will also be a sideboard guide of the finalized list that will be available to UW Fanatics/Connoisseurs until after the PT, it will be then made available for all patrons on July 31. The reasoning for this is to try to limit any possible advantage of attendees knowing how I intend to sideboard against certain matchups. One of the main advantages of UW is that not many people have practice against it and this also includes the PT.

There will also be a VOD with commentary of a practice tournament that I am attending with my team. This will be also for UW Fanatics/Connoisseurs but will be released on July 31, so that none of my teammates are affected.

So in short:

July 26 - List is posted, SB Guide for UW Blues
July 28 - PT Barcelona begins
July 31 - SB is public for all patrons, VOD is released for UW Blues

July 31 - Aug 13: Vacation in Italy and Paris - I will likely be less responsive during these two weeks.

SCGCon Cincinnati List

Only change I made was:

-2 Lantern of the Lost
+1 Thought Distortion
+1 March of Otherworldly Light

Greasefang doesn't seem to be that great in the meta right now and so it is not fully required to respect it.

Pioneer MTGO LCQ 5-0

MonoG 2-1
Lotus Combo 2-1
Greasefang 2-0
MonoG 2-1
MonoG 2-1

This is available to all Patrons. I will have another version with commentary that details my plays in 1-2 days for the UW Blues. I wanted to keep my content as open as possible while also having a "high learning" benefit for the higher tier. I think this is the best way to balance it out.

I am open to all your feedback and I have received a lot of compliments that I am much more active than other Patreon creators. I intend to maintain this for the long run and I do appreciate everyone here. UW and Magic is truly my passion. I think I can see the results already, since I don't have that many followers in my social media platforms but overall, my Patreon is higher than some creators that have 10x more followers than I do but I know word of mouth is very strong in the competitive scene.

With UW Control, I don't think there is a "correct" approach. For example, Guillaume Wafo-Tapa's style differs very much from mine. This is merely my style and how I like to play the deck. I think UW Control has to still have a proactive game plan and I represent this playstyle through my deckbuilding. There are pros and cons to both and I have enough experience with both. This is extremely important as a pilot as you are able to transition playstyles when necessary, as some of you may be able to see in how I play in this LCQ.

Bant Lotus Field for Cincinnati and Tamiyo Explanation

I think I am definitely going through with the Joint Explorations. I don't see myself needing to test it very much but I certainly eventually will. VOD with it may be out tomorrow instead. That said, here is the updated sideboard guide with it.

Looking back, there are a lot of games where I would have preferred Joint Exploration instead of censor and I casted Censor 0 times in the last 5 matches I played (the 5-0 Pioneer League).

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/g1mMT641IU61dMjQaBFH3w

There is also the VOD with censors on my Twitch and has some really interesting lines of play with Tamiyo, that will further explain why the card is actually pretty good.

In short:
Tamiyo passive is very strong against discard and Rakdos is a top tier deck.
+1 allows you to name a lot of the 4 ofs in the deck: Discontinuity, Teferi, Proctor or even 3 ofs: Emperor, Doomskar, Farewell. Even if you don't hit anything, you can fill your graveyard with cards to buyback with the -3 next turn and you can also bin Memory Deluges with Flashback.

-3 Great buyback to have in this type of deck. I ended up beating Creativity because I was able to reliably buyback Discontinuity.

High loyalty, it is a threat that most decks HAVE to answer or it can easily take over the game. It can go up to 6 after one +1 and it stalls the game much more. With Joint exploration as well, I don't see Behold being as relevant.

Further Card Changes for SCG Cincinnati

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/g1mMT641IU61dMjQaBFH3w

I think Joint Exploration is better than censor now that I think about it. I always wanted to play Growth Spiral but sometimes the green is not always reliable until later turns. Joint Exploration allows for the kicker to remove the play/draw dependency in some matchups while being a slightly weaker Impulse, and not having to require you to shift the mana into more green. I think this card is overall better than Impulse and actually will be testing it on MTGO today.

Tamiyo is here to stay and so are the Dragonlord Dromokas. I also like Joint Exploration much more than Sylvan Scrying because of the topdeck potential. Joint Exploration may also allow Finale of Revelation to be casted much sooner.

This is a Patreon only update since I plan on playing random Modern decks on Twitch from now to Cincinnati. I do intend to stream today again on Twitch but Modern.

This leads me to ask:

Should I do a Private Patreon Livestream for Pioneer or should I just do a VOD?

I was looking into my options and it seems like Crowdcast is the best option for this.

Bant Lotus Field: 95% Sure Decklist for Cincinnati

Bant Lotus Field
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/oBIQ5Taql0CH3a_qCf5uag

Attached is the SB Guide that I made.

The changes have proven very strong and most favored matchups still feel great. Thank you to everyone in the Discord that have contributed with their thoughts/opinions on their playtesting and cards. Dragonlord Dromoka was a great addition and in my opinion, furthers the resilience of the deck. Tamiyo is also great against discard decks.

Updated UW Lotus Field - Splashing Green

Hello!

I played at my Local Pioneer event and had a lot of great insight on the changes. Brazen borrower, bad. March back in. Green good, Dragonlord Dromoka good. 3 Doomskar feels fine.

2-0 Grixis Archfiend
2-0 MonoG
2-1 Lotus Combo
ID

I will be continuing some testing for SCGCon Cincinnati but I am certain I am splashing green for this event. Dragonlord Dromoka was very impressive and it is also very strong against spirits.

So here is the list I am certain is very strong:

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/sumF5omE1Eu71k2eNh3G_g

And here is the list with the minor changes that I am still probably going to test. Tamiyo, Collector of Tales is actually now a pretty strong splash because of all the discard in the format (in theory). The only change I'm going to test out so far is: +1 Tamiyo, -1 Behold. Not sure if that is great though.

Sideboard Guide will eventually come once I finalize my list for SCGCon Cincinnati.

UW Control (No Lotus Field) Pioneer

I have been asked by some of my Patrons to create a list that I would play without Lotus Field.

This is it:

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Ooch1S_6VE6tgA3Pm7YPlQ

I have not tested it fully yet but I wanted to share this with you all. If it proves to be good with this 75, I will make a sideboard guide for this eventually.

If you had to ask me which I would type of UW I would prefer playing, it is still UW Lotus Field though. That said, I do think playing regular UW Control is a necessary stepping stone to succeeding with UW Lotus Field since it teaches you the play-patterns after side and gives you a lot more intuition on when it is appropriate to tap-out.

Updates for the following month

Here is my PIONEER decklist that I will be tuning. There are no official changes yet and I will be keeping this as an EXPERIMENTAL version but I will be constantly updating this in trying to make it better.

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/oBIQ5Taql0CH3a_qCf5uag

I will be analyzing all the UW Lotus Field decklists that popped out in the RCs after mine and will be adapting more to the meta. I want to see if there is any way to have a better spirits matchup while not losing equity against many others. I definitely think this is possible with further innovation and I already have some plans in mind. Lotus Field Combo seems to be in check with how the format has shifted and I think it is fine to cut 1 Thought Distortion, for example. Niv-Mizzet, Parun is also on my radar now. Thank you to Yuya Hosokawa for testing it in the Japanese RC.

I will be attending SCGCon Cincinnati and will be in the Pioneer slot for my team. This is largely because I want to continue to keep my Modern decklist lowkey and in terms of format strength in my team, it makes the most logical sense for me to play Pioneer.

I still continue to practice Modern and have been demonstrating very consistent results. I think I personally have a great chance of doing well at the upcoming PT. Of course, as a reminder, I will not be posting my list until the PT decklists are finalized, I believe around July 25-26. I hope you all continue to understand, I have to ultimately prioritize my Canadian team's success in the PT.

I also have to practice a lot of Draft and that is the weakest format for me. I regrettably do not have as much experience in limited as I should for a PT competitor and I will be playing a lot of Draft to try to get as prepared as possible. For example, my first COMP REL draft was at PT MoM, and my inexperience showed.

With that in mind, I will likely push streaming until after the PT, in around August since I doubt many of you would want to see me draft horrendously and play like a buffoon on stream since that is what I will likely be focusing on for the upcoming month.

I think my Modern decklist is close to being 100% and I see very few minor adjustments, if any, for the PT. I feel very comfortable with my current iteration and I think it is a genuinely a Tier 1 deck, something that UW has been regularly struggling with in Modern. I personally did not think UW was tier 1 either in Modern before LotR but the new cards have really changed everything. I think it is similar in strength against the meta as UW Lotus Field where I have very few bad matchups but great matchups against most of the meta.

I thank you all once again for taking genuine interest in my UW journey. I dedicate a lot of time and effort towards these decklists and I am glad they are showing results. I intend to be much more present in the MTG scene but I know I cannot rush into all of this at once but I strive to push as much content as possible as one person. I do not have a team to make this content and so as much as I want to be as active as possible, I also know that I cannot continuously push out content or I will be burnt out. I genuinely hope you all found value in this Patreon/Discord that I offer and I appreciate everyone here. I am still amazed by the amount of patrons I have in less than one month of opening this Patreon and it is very encouraging.

This is NOT a COMPETITIVE level deck. That said, this is based on a deck I previously had a lot of fun playing and found success at medium-level events.

While I of course will not be bringing this deck to the PT, I will likely be playing this deck for fun, especially once I start streaming.

Modern PT Decklist Update

So as most of you know,

I will not be updating this list further since the PT is coming up:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/NEqBC7oCAEGd3ytEBxB6uQ

This is the decklist I will be working on though for PT Barcelona and was the first iteration I created with Reprieve.

That said, I figured it was a nice benefit to have for UW Fanatics/Connoisseurs. I will be releasing my PT decklist and sideboard guide early, a few days before the PT. I figure this is close to the date enough that it won't affect my team's performance and will still remain under the radar. Once the PT is over, the sideboard guide will be made public to all patrons.

Expected timeframe:

Early access: July 25-26

Available to all: July 31

The deck does feel super nice already with the changes that I have made and it is kind of crushing that I can't exactly share it so early. I look forward to speaking with everyone though next month!

Thank you all for your continued support. I am still amazed by everything that happened in the last few weeks.

Discord Update

Hi! Most of you can disregard this post.

Just wanted to let everyone else know who are not already in the Discord:

Patreon has a feature where you can link your Discord account and it will automatically add you to the Discord with your respective role.

I originally had an invite link for Discord but I realized it was very hard to manage this and hard to determine who is who. I'd rather have the bot manage this.

As a result, I removed the invite link and some people who are in the Discord may have been removed. If you have been removed, please simply just link your Discord to your Patreon.

The Discord will always have the most-up-to-date lists and I am very responsive on Discord.

Weekend Update and Modern Decklist

Hello to you all! I just wanted to give an update about RC Edmonton.

I did 5-1-1 in the Friday Super Qualifier with my only loss being an intentional concede. Split the top 8.

5-3 Day 1 of the RC, was not happy with my performance and I think it was because of a multitude of reasons. Most specifically because I was tired. I still think the deck is very strong and can easily be adjusted to make some matchups stronger. I would likely consider my losses to be mostly my fault.

1-1 Drop Day 2 since my first round was against spirits. Won my next match against Greasefang to secure top 64 (min cash) and dropped after.

4-0-2 in Modern Super Qualifier with:

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/UF_j5jLDXUKYy6LDyqiLeQ

2-1 Jund Creativity

2-1 Amulet Titan

1-1 Living End

1-2 Hardened Scales (@Edge_SKL intentionally conceded TYVM)

2-1 Murktide

ID

I lost to Hardened Scales but he conceded because he could not continue the event. I think Hardened Scales is a good matchup overall and open decklists likely would have converted this to a natural win. Opponent played very tight though.

Won the Quarterfinals against 5c Creativity and split the top 4. After winning game 1, I slammed a turn 2 blood moon with Gemstone Caverns on the draw. It was nasty.

In all, was a great weekend and had a lot of fun. Got 4000 tix from top 8ing both qualifiers which netted me 7 draft boxes of New Capenna (friend gave 200 tix since it was 600 tix each)

MODERN THOUGHTS:

I think Reprieve genuinely makes UW Narset loads better and much more consistent. I think it has the potential of being Tier 1 like UW Lotus Field in Pioneer.
I have posted my initial list and I already know what I need to change to make this better for the PT. That said, I have made the decision to not update the Patreon list until after the PT. I will have a sideboard guide after the PT ready as well.

The main reason is that some people in my PT team is considering to play this deck and I do not want to mess up the team’s overall odds by having my list out there. It was a hard decision I made but I hope you all understand. I always get excited to move forward with new cards that I think can improve the deck but this is just the best thing I can do moving forward.

Matchups against Izzet Drakes and Spirits

After playing against both pretty extensively, I concluded:

Izzet drakes: Easy matchup, no need to respect it.

Spirits: the extra shark and march is generally enough to make the matchup slightly better while keeping all other matchups consistent.

Will personally not add disputes for this weekend. Will keep the list as is and I feel very comfortable with it.

Creation of Discord

Created a discord, you can join here if you haven't already been invited through Patreon:
https://discord.gg/T2ZTWBtAJ

Patrons already linked with their discord have already been invited. This discord is voluntary, but I figured it is a better avenue of communication for questions and I will also be posting my live results there for any big event.

In the modern and pioneer section, the decklists are in the description so they can be easily checked rather than having to go through the patreon and finding the post.

Also pinned the sideboard guide for the current pioneer list and will eventually do it for modern as well, when I make one.

There will also be a page for the higher tier where I shoutout every patron subscribed to UW Fanatics/Connoisseurs. These patrons will also have exclusive benefits eventually as I continue to think of unique benefits that aren't too restrictive. To all UW Fanatics/Connoisseurs, I will be using your full names in the shoutouts but please let me know if you prefer a nickname or just your first name or even a social media tag like Twitter/IG. I'll give it a few days for everyone to read this to message me before I update the shoutout channel. You will all also be featured on Twitch in the description as a thank you when I begin to stream.

I will likely be streaming after Edmonton, when I start practicing Modern for the PT. I have many plans, with the revival of Wafo-Tapa's list, I am willing to try it out once again to see if it is favorable in this meta.

I decided I do not want to restrict any MTG content because the focus of this patreon is to ultimately learn about UW and I do not want "price" to be a factor of how much content you all receive. So I am continuing to think of exclusive, yet rewarding benefits that the higher tiers can receive while not restricting anything for everyone.

Update with the 75 for UW Lotus Field

I will be removing Rest in Peace and adding back the Thought Distortion.

I was always hesitant to remove 1 Thought Distortion at first, since the UW mirror as well as Lotus Field Combo can be rough to play against without it. The addition of March also kind of eliminates the need for RiP since you can now exile Greasefang with March.

One of my early patrons, Miguel Garcia, suggested this change and after thinking about it, I fully agree with it. So props to him!

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/sumF5omE1Eu71k2eNh3G_g

Not only that, here is the updated Sideboard Guide for this version.

Don't ever hesitate to give me suggestions about the deck, I am always in search of improving myself and the deck and I will take every suggestion seriously!

Also would like to note: I am still keeping Finale of Revelation because of my region's meta being heavy in MonoG. I think this is the most flexible card to remove or keep and you can replace this card with something else more fitting, depending on the matchup you want to target.

2-1 against Rakdos Midrange

I ended up playing a quick match against Rakdos Midrange. Unfortunately, I forgot to hit the record button when I was playing this match so I end up talking over my replay. I still think I provide a lot of valuable insight.

The most important thing to note is how I play like I am regular UW Control in the entire match and do not rely on the Lotus Field Combo whatsoever.

As with UW in general, it's very important to always be thinking about what you and your opponent's next lines of play are, so you can optimally prepare each turn.

RC Edmonton

So with RC Edmonton coming up, I have been pretty busy with my preparations. I of course cannot be as active as I want to be when I am preparing for a trip elsewhere. I still want to thank you all for the massive support. I realize I have many more patrons than the norm for someone that makes content for MTG at my level of followers.

That said, I plan on leaving Wednesday. I wanted to make a quick poll to get your opinions.   I could theoretically record my games on paper (although not great quality) when I am playtesting before the RC. Is this something you would be interested in? Or would you rather wait until after the RC for when I have much more time to do MTGO Leagues with commentary. This of course will be of higher quality and you will be able to see my actual hands and decision-making.

I know Day 2 of RC Edmonton will have a live broadcast but I would have to be in the top tables to be featured, so that is not a very reliable solution.

Long and Detailed Post about Every Card in the 75

Hello!

I feel like this is a much needed article on how every card in the 75 was chosen and the specific special mechanics every unique card has that can be very relevant from winning or losing the game. I realize this is probably much better in the end than having VODs with commentary. I still intend on doing that but I think this will give much more insight to people starting out with the deck or with UW in general.

Please note, because of the nature of all the RCs and PTs being open decklists, I will almost always make my decklists with open decklists in mind. There are many advantages with open decklist that in my opinion, UW has a massive advantage with.

Teferi, Hero of Dominaria:
This is quite the obvious one, one of the strongest planeswalkers in the format, if not the strongest and the ability to untap two lands (potentially both Lotus Fields is extremely strong). You can get the Discontinuity + Teferi Engine running as early as Turn 4 (although rare) if you have two lotus Fields but it is mostly an extremely strong Turn 5 play. In later turns, the untap two lands becomes even more relevant as it allows you to Deluge on your main phase to find the necessary cards to win the game. Once that engine is going, most of the time, it is extremely difficult for your opponent to come back.

The Wandering Emperor:
This is a card that is actually stronger in tournaments with open decklists. The moment they know this card is in your 75, they are required to play around it even if you don't have it once you hold up 4 mana. This is often to your advantage because you get to sometimes get a free Deluge without pressure or if you actually have it, they just have to run into it. This card is the haymaker against the midrange matchups like Rakdos and Gruul.

Dream Trawler:
In short, this card says "I win the game" against so many matchups like Rakdos, Gruul, Humans, Sacrifice, Phoenix, etc. All the aggro and midrange matchups often have no answer to this card and this card synergizes extremely well with Discontinuity and Teferi. Of course, you have to still be at a healthy life total before you slam this card. Dream Trawler is arguably the best choice that is a 6 mana spell because of its evasive ability to discard a card to give it hexproof and its lifelink, which can often have its power boosted by cards like Behold/Finale/Teferi/Farmland/Typhoon. All-Star card that I don't think I would ever replace.

Strict Proctor:
While I thought this was a card that goes without saying, I return back to Earth knowing that not everyone plays only UW. So with a more detailed explanation, this card essentially counters all ETB triggers unless it's controller pays 2. This is an optional tax and you or your opponent are not required to pay 2 whatsoever. This synergizes very well with Lotus Field because you can ignore the tax and counter your own ability to sacrifice two lands. The common mistake I see people doing is playing this card turn 2. The ideal situation is to mostly hold up Jwari Disruption turn 2 or Foretell a card. The exception to this rule is if you are against a matchup like MonoG or MonoW that has very limited interaction against Proctor on T2 in general. Otherwise, Proctor is almost always a T3 play with Lotus Field. The reason being is because once it resolves, because you have priority once again, you can play Lotus Field and it is too late for your opponent to interact. Your opponent is able to kill the Proctor in response to you playing Lotus Field on T3 but it is too late because of the triggers already being on the stack. However, if you try to set this up on T2 and they kill it, your Lotus Field just became much worse. This card is currently a house on its own with many matchups just folding to this card by itself. Examples include Convoke, Keruga Fires, MonoG, etc. The advantage of this card is that it is very playable on its own but it becomes extremely overpowered when you also have a Lotus Field in hand.

Doomskar:

This card has been met with the most controversy. The most common question I get asked is: Why not just play Verdict? The reason is because most matchups require a T3 boardwipe or you are dead. With the exception of spirits: MonoW, Gruul, Convoke, all of them can have extremely strong board states by T3 and if you do not have an answer by T3, you will likely lose the game. This is the necessary sacrifice needed for having no single target removal in the main, which is in my opinion, worth it. Make the spirits matchup worse but make everything else much stronger. It also makes it extremely awkward for Rakdos to overextend their board when you have a Foretold card. They cannot thoughtseize it, and they cannot commit to the board without the risk of getting boardwiped. This card is MUCH stronger in an open decklist environment because of Behold the Multiverse. Your opponent is still required to play around a foretold card even if it is Behold the Multiverse. They know you play 4 doomskars, and will often play around it. I have sandbagged my Behold Foretold A LOT, trying to represent doomskar and have won many games because of this at the RC.

Farewell:
The strongest boardwipe in the game... If you can get there. This is a catch-all boardwipe against almost all matchups and simply just doesn't remove planeswalkers. This can be good or bad depending on the situation because you get to keep your Teferi + Emperor if you already have a board state once you Farewell. 3 copies is the ideal number because of the need to respect MonoG. MonoG just folds to a Farewell against this deck because the advantage of this deck over traditional UW, you are also trying to sculpt your perfect hand to win the game. MonoG for example cannot do anything against Teferi + Discontinuity or better yet: Finale for x = 10 +.

Finale of Revelation:
This is a card that I personally added to really seal the deal against matchups like MonoG or Rakdos. Casting it for X=10 + basically means you win the game, because of the untap 5 lands clause. You get to freely draw a large portion of your deck and still continue to play with your hand. This card has saved me many games against MonoG where I slowly run out of cards in my hand trying to interact with them and we eventually get close to topdeck mode for both players. I will likely not cut this card out unless the meta becomes more aggressive.

Behold The Multiverse:
This is just a great card that synergizes with Doomskar. Because your opponent isn't able to know what you foretold, you often get a free "pass" in terms of them playing no creatures and you are given time to sculpt your hand for when they eventually do.

Discontinuity:
The best card in the deck. This helps you "scam" Lotus Field T3 by ending your own turn with the trigger on the stack or late game, it becomes an extremely strong Time Walk. It is almost always better to Discontinuity when they cast a spell rather than doing it on the upkeep. This is unless they have a strong boardstate and you are trying to protect your lifetotal or Teferi from dying. You usually wait until they play a spell because they are either forced to play their strong cards, or they can also topdeck a land and just do nothing, allowing you to save your Discontinuity for future turns that require a catch-all answer. This card also dodges "Can't be Countered" such as Thought Distortion or Hullbreaker Horror, very relevant against matchups like Lotus Field Combo and Creativity.

Jwari Disruption:
Because the deck plays 4 Lotus Fields, 28 lands are needed. The reason being 2 land hands with Lotus field are not keepable. This means you need at minimum 2 lands with no Lotus Field or 3 lands with Lotus Field as one of them. Jwari Disruption adds the consistency of hitting your essential land drops in the early turns while being quite useful for slowing down the game early, where you are most vulnerable. Once the game goes to mid-late, you usually have an extreme advantage with all the Card Advantage engines like Deluge and Behold that this card essentially becomes a land 80% of the time.

Memory Deluge:
The best card advantage engine because of the flashback. With Teferi and Lotus Fields, this basically becomes a free spell on your main phase, allowing you to sculpt your hand into what you need to win the matchup.

Shark Typhoon:
Just a great card to stall with chump blockers and with the uptick of spirits, is a must against them. This is really one of the only ways of surviving against spirits because their answers are awkward. They cannot counter the cycling whatsoever. Shark Typhoon is just a great card in general in control because it can often be a 2 for 1 or it can be hard casted in the later stages of the game to make it easier to close the games out.

Sideboard:

Aether Gust:
This is really for Gruul and MonoG, it is the extra kick necessary to slow down the game and consistently win against those matchups.

Dovin's Veto:
Counterspells that can't be countered are extremely strong. 4 of is a no-brainer especially since the mainboard has no counterspells. This allows you to win against interactive decks on the stack or combo decks like Lotus Field.

Dream Trawler: Added for extra consistency against matchups where this is really good.

Lantern of the Lost: I prefer this card over RiP as there are not many matchups that require HARD graveyard hate because of the fact that you already play 3 farewells in the main. Because of this and because of the fact that the deck already has a proactive strategy in place (Teferi + Discontinuity, etc), the Lantern is the perfect card to slow down graveyard decks while still developing your hand into the unbeatable one.

March of Otherworldly Light: For the spirits matchup, with the rise of spirits, this is the way to try to reliably beat spirits more. The early few turns are really the most important ones because they cannot win the mid-late game. They have to continue the tempo pressure with evasive creatures and slowly chip the life total. This card is also extremely strong against MonoG and Sacrifice so it is a great addition.

Narset's Reversal:

Arguably my favorite card in the sideboard. This card allows you to interact with so many cards that you can easily lose to such as:
Storm the Festival
Emergent Ultimatum
Thought Distortion

This card is the best card against so many matchups and easily swings the card in your favor. You can even treat this card as sort of like a remand by reversing your own Discontinuity, to kind of have 6 copies when necessary.

Rest in Peace: One of against the hard graveyard decks like Greasefang or the new one with Storm Herald.

Thought Distortion: The card to really seal the deal and make the matchups against Lotus Field Combo and UW mirrors more consistent. Those matchups both are probably unfavored game 1 but because of the sideboard, become extremely favorable post-sideboard. This card just seals the deal when drawn.

I hope all this helps and really gives people just starting the deck a better understanding of why every card is in the 75. I think this is essential to understand how the deck works because it plays on a different mentality. After sideboard, it can become a traditional control deck though which is what I think many players who do not have much control experience can struggle with. This transition becomes a complete change in mentality that often requires you to change how you play in the middle of a match.

When you play this deck, you should always be asking: How do you win this game? What are the cards you need? How much damage can you be taking to develop your hand? What are the best cards to play on your turn?

When you play Control, it is different, it is often: How do you lose? What are the threats that you have to respect? Can you let certain spells resolve? When can you tap out?

3-0-1 FNM

Went 3-0-1 at my FNM today with

Set Adrift overperformed and I am really happy with it.

2-1 Merfolk
2-0 Rhinos
2-0 Hammertime
ID

Notes:

Gemstone Caverns as a one of is sweet in this proactive type of Narset Control deck. I had gotten Gemstone G2 against Rhinos and it completely ruined his ice strategy into rhinos.

Set Adrift was clutch against all matchups, being most often a one mana removal spell. Set adrifting an ornithopter with a hammer already on it was also extremely value.

Will likely keep the 1/1 split in the main and side for set adrift.

Not exactly happy with Celestial Purge, I feel like there's something better but I can't seem to find it.

MonoG

I did some slight MTGO misclicks/misplays, and I tilt conceded after playing my teferi g2 into an already resolved pithing needle but this MonoG knew the way to attack me was with early Karn.

Match 2-1 against Boros Convoke

I think the important factor is that you can keep many hands without the Lotus Field Combo. This matchup reinforces that, especially since you can still win against the aggro matchups without the combo. Always try to think that the combo is a bonus and you are still trying to play UW Tap out.

MTGO League Replays

I just realized MTGO has games saved and so I would be more than happy to share it with you all!

I'll look into if I can share the replays directly, otherwise, I will manually record them and upload them here. I'll edit this post with the updates!

I have an insane amount of matches in May so I will try to see if there is a way to get like a replay file but so far, I think I have to record it.

New Sideboard Guide with the latest list

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/HqjxiFc3QkSINrl_KAx4lA

I am likely moving forward with this version for RC Edmonton next week.

As you can see, the deck loses slight equity against Lotus Field Combo but retains most of it's fine balance against every other matchup.

I think this is a tradeoff I am willing to have with Spirits likely on the rise.

Lotus Field Combo of course always wins game one, probably like 90-10 but after side, I still think its very favored like 80-20 for UW Lotus Field. With these changes, it probably goes to 70-75 after side.

Thank you all once again and there is still a VOD I intend to post this weekend with the list on MTGO.

I have a local Team Trio on Sunday as well and I'll try to see if I can also record my matches then but so far, I don't think it is likely.

Updates after Testing

I found some inconsistencies with Lay Down Arms especially with Farmland hands and so I will be now leaning on the Non LDA version. I think March of Otherworldly Light is a great addition to the deck and so I will be testing this much more now. I want to see if the 2 March would reliably help the Spirits matchup as well.

Still on the fence about the Shark Typhoon in the side, debating whether it should be another March but I think the other Shark Typhoon is good enough since I am removing a Thought Distortion for it.
