I wanted George to feel very isolated in panel 2 after hearing Zoey talk about Jack and Jules' wedding plans in panel one and the continued reference of the book about going down on ladies so I pulled out the background. Panel three he's in silhouette because I wanted him to be almost unrecognizable... Selfishness is a huge part of George's character and he's making, what he thinks, a very unselfish decision right here.

George was going to have a Lincoln/Amish beard but I knew people would hate it even more than the goatee... so in panel 2 you see what it would have been. Panel 1 he had no extra growth in the original sketch, then I changed it to the mustache-less beard for two and finally the third panel had the goatee.

I forgot to add this sketch while I was uploading stuff in the middle of the night... It happens a lot. As you see there was several under drawings to get Lizzy's pose "right" for panel 1. Panel three's expressions were drastically different than they were in the finished version. I just couldn't get the "feel" I was going for right until I stepped back and just redid them at the ink stage.
