Fort Fairbanks page 10

This week's page features a scene-stealing cameo by Alex Ivanova from Ben Fleuter's very excellent comic Sword Interval (which oh my gosh you should read and OMG you can buy, too); this is because Ben backed the NTO Volume 2 Kickstarter at a hella generous level! Thanks ...

Conversation with SpiderForest

I talked with Mathieu Moyen awhile back about fantasy archetypes and playing with genre tropes for the SpiderForest podcast and you can check that out here if you're so inclined.

Suntouched: the crappy display font I made for the language of the Sun

I'd planned for a long time to make a custom font to represent the Suntouched Nation's language in NTO; I wanted it to be legible but distinct from the comic's normal lettering and recall the Suntouched's overall design aesthetic (of which you'll see more later). I planned on this being a big project I was going to put loads of thought and time into....! But before I knew it JHH and Stone Hears nothing were conversing in a cell and I needed type for the job yesterday ... and I hastily cobbled th...

Soon: pins

Not all of you follow me on Twitter so I thought I'd share these over here. As I pick at fulfilling the JHH pin Kickstarter I'm also picking at some new, non-NTO enamel pin designs that might interest DnD players. This is an early draw of a dungeoneer’s pack pin set; I’m also going to do an explorer’s pack that swaps the hammer/pitons/crowbar for a mess kit and bedroll.

With the comic's update day falling right on April Fool's it was suuuuch a golden opportunity for Marshall Snowman to make a return, but alas I couldn't swing the time and figured I should probably focus the actual comic. Ah well.

Cpt. Overvelde

Sketches for the final KS cameo character, based on the very generous Floris Overvelde. Along with Ben Fleuter's cameo character he'll be showing up real soon.

A huge thanks to Gus Carlson for illustrating this short! Your generous patronage allowed me to actually pay him a little something for his work.

NTO proper should pick back up the 25th, with book 10. I say "should" because I'm doing a con that weekend so it's possible I miss one last week of updates, but I'll try my damnedest to avoid it.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Cameo: Alex Ivanova

Do you read Sword Interval?  You should! It's excellent! But anyways its creator Ben Fleuter was kind enough to chip into the NTO Book 2 Kickstarter back in the day at the very generous cameo tier and as of Book 10 I'm finally working in his preferred cameo: Alex Ivanova from the aforementioned 2018-02-01 18:32:55 +0000 UTC View Post

Dungeon maps, notes, GM resources?

So I might be doing a very short (like 4-5 session) DnD campaign soon (I am demo-ing the old, maligned 4e for 5e players who are curious about it); are you guys interested in my notes, maps, etc.? Generally speaking would you guys be interested in this kind of content at all? Like for example if I were to start building out an NTOniverse setting/system in the future?

Commission: Riot

A commission from last year for a very good friend (and Patron!) I really needed to get to.

This short short, drawn by Gus Carlson, is a sort of a Young Cutter adventure.  Hopefully by the time it's done I'm ready to dive properly into NTO Book 10, but who knows; there's a lot of prep work on it, including a partial rewrite.

Here ends Book 9.

Next week I'm going to start running a Cutter & Ironwood related short short (5 pages, give or take) drawn by my good friend and Tourist Unknown creator Gus Carlson, who's previously drawn Rough Week and contributed to Poor Wayfaring Strangers.

Was your Vane pin lonely?

Guess what, folks -- this just went live.

As with the Vane pin, this is a spur-of-the-moment, 2-week Make 100 campaign, and as with the Vane pin, if this makes its funding goal and gets made I'll be sending one to all active US & Canada Patrons who've pledged lifetime totals of $100+ so help spread the word if possible! Additionally, if you as a Patron happen to back the Kickstarter, I'll add an original sketch card to your order as an extra thank you. <...

Happy New Year, Patrons!

Hey, I want to toss out here while posting this incredibly late page on this the first day of 2018 that, while the updates have gotten unusually sporadic for NTO, they will not stop, and at some point they will get back on track.

Also, while all the "big" NTO chapters have historically been 36 pages and this, Via Dolorosa page 36, could well be interpreted as the last in the chapter, it ain't.

Thanks, all! <...

Happy New Year! Comic's [Extra] Late!

Thank you all for your support in 2017, especially during what may have been the roughest holiday season of my life.

I'd apologize and say the comic's going to be late but the fact is it's already a week late, so expect it .... next year

Here's to a 2018 that's hopefully better in just about every regard and thank you again, so, so much.

Oh and please check out my Riverside Extras guest s...

Riverside Extras guest comic: Homicide, Page 1.

Fellow creator Miranda Chamberlain backed my last Kickstarter at the insanely generous "I will draw you a short comic" level and requested I do this intermission for her comic, Riverside Extras. The first page ran today. Check it out -- and the rest of her very rad comic. You could do worse for interim reading during this unusually slow NTO spell.
