Sketch: Brian Delfin

Four $200 backers of the Poor Wayfaring Strangers Kickstarter nabbed cameos in Next Town Over. The super-rad Brian Delfin was supposed to already be making his first appearance in the very next page -- the one that got delayed by my tablet sitch. Here's my sketch of his NTO insert as a little something extra during the gap. I'm super grateful for his support -- and yours!

When Cutter Met Ironwood page 2

Rough week, Patrons! Tore up our bathroom, right down to the subfloor ... and beyond: cracked, lead pipes beneath! But worse (for the comic, anyway!): my tablet of like 8 years finally quit. New one's on the way but not expected till Friday. Really sorry to put you out, but have this in the interim: another page of Cutter & Ironwood.

A Teaser of a Secret

While Next Town Over is more or less written in its entirety (I tweak my old scripts minorly when figuring out paneling at the start of each book) there are three different versions of the ending—by which I mean wholly different outcomes—and I'm still not 100% sure which one I'm going to go with.

[Terribly Photographed] Underdrawing Process

Posting this as sort of a follow-up to a discussion had in the comments a bit ago. All apologies for the terrible phone photos; levels adjustment couldn't save them without washing out all the information, but you can kind of see how I build up figures when drawing from this. Not pictured: my final pencils, and countless sketches of similar poses over the years. Notice I had to change a much more dynamic, natural leg position later on to make a bit more space.

Just made this dude tonight for a break. Barely getting started learning animation. Thought I'd share. Thanks guys!

Re: Cutter & Ironwood -- I've got another page drawn, but since it has no update schedule I'm wondering if I should save a few up, share it in chunks so they're more of a complete thought? What do you think?

KS still going!

When Cutter Met Ironwood page 1

So, while I can't commit to any kind of an update schedule on this, I'm going to start scribbling this, a short backstory for Cutter and Ironwood, when I can, and sharing it exclusively with you Patrons. As you can see I'm not putting a ton of effort into each page, but even so it's going to be a challenge to find the time to keep this going.

Looking at this first page you probably have a ton of assumptions about this story ... I'm pleased to assure you they are all wrong.

Broken Sky Cover

So as you know Eric Dagley pretty much does all the NTO covers; this started as a time-saver for me, but then he got dizzyingly, insanely good, and now I can never quit him.

Direction for Patron-exclusive content?

Hey dudes is there anything specific you'd like to see in the Patron-only stream? My time is always extremely limited so not all suggestions are going to be necessarily feasible but I'd love to hear them just the same -- there may be something you'd like to see that I can easily supply!

All right a lot of my NTO time this week went toward the Kickstarter ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1299217871/poor-wayfaring-strangers-volume-1 - huge thanks to those of you who have backed that also; I'm desperate to get my friends and I paid for our effort on the anthology and your support on multiple fronts means a lot to me) this week so sorry this is a bit late ...

Fantastic rocks

Continuing my no-NTO apology/get-hype-for-PWS-train, some rocks I drew to be small spot illustrations in the anthology.

Barring any unforeseen BS, 8 days until the Poor Wayfaring Strangers KS.

Sketch: PWS wraparound cover

Between being sick most of the week, needing to take my 3 year old on a promised daytrip this Saturday, and trying to work on Poor Wayfaring Strangers, it is looking pretty unlikely I'm going to make this week's update. Phew; I've missed more updates in the past few months than in the entire preceding history of the comic, for reals. I'm hoping we get back to normal + regular Patron bonuses again after PWS shakes out. The holidays+plague season+anthology have really beaten me.

Anyway,...

Better late than never. I'm honestly not sure if this means I'll be late with/skipping the next update currently. I guess we'll see!

Diamondback Ridge by Night Wallpaper

Hey Patrons! As an apology for my tardiness with the current page (I've been so, so sick; 72 hours into some bad norovirus -- finally able to keep some foods down today!) have a totally unasked-for wallpaper of this panel from a few pages back.

On top of being sick I'm struggling to put together Poor Wayfaring Strangers (look for the Kickstarter end of this month!) and the comic is generally pretty uphill!

As always, all the best and thanks for your patience & gener...

Holiday 2015 Art in [Semi] HD

Here's the art from the holiday card I sent out at wallpaper resolution for non-US backers (and US backers that didn't respond with mailing addresses!). It's a bit ugly at this resolution as I painted it to be scaled down drastically onto a small card (and in something of a hurry!), but at least you can see it, including quite a bit of bonus background from the right side from before I moved down from a 5.5x8.5" to a 4.25"x5.5" card due to cost constraints. Outlaw had to be unceremoniously nudg...

We're back! Don't forget to get me your mailing address somehow, ASAP, to receive a holiday card, US patrons! International backers let me know you're elsewhere so you can grab a wallpaper of the card art!

Best!

So ends Golden Son!

May not be an update next week; this past month I've found myself with very different time constraints, I'm not 100% ready to dive into NTO Book 8, and the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us. I may take it easy and sit next week out.

That being said, see you next time in Diamondback Ridge.
