Finally some good news

4/16/25

Not a hairline in sight. I’m really itching to draw something else that goes multiple pages, but I can’t stop the flow of nonsense ideas into my brain… they keep me awake at night.

Gotta play it cool

4/15/25

Needlessly long since I drew my last bug related comic. Gotta remind people of my roots. This was basically inspired by my Sunday afternoon which I spent raking dead leaves out of my yard to curb a fly problem at my house. Originally this idea featured a fly instead of a grub, but I’ve had enough of the flies in my house and they do not deserve to be featured in a comic.

I honestly don’t even know what to say about this one lmao it was a fun one to draw though. Today I was on a tear and inked three comics, but I colored this one first because I anticipated it would be the most challenging. It’s pretty busy panel to panel but I enjoyed adding little details like the bassist kicking a chair over at a lady’s table.

My little doggie is at the vet getting her teeth cleaned today. I’m stressed about it because she’s my shining star and I can’t handle being away from her for more than 4.3 seconds. Pray for me and hold your animals close, like I will once I pick mine up from her teeth cleaning. Bonus photos of Belly

Only one way out

One of those ideas that’s been sitting in my notes for a long time but was difficult to frame. Pretty happy with how it came out even though the color was a little tricky to get right.

I actually would hang something like that in my house. People who read this comic may believe the girl is the protagonist and the one we relate to… but I’m da joker

We can stop this… there’s still time.

Sometimes my favorite punchlines are just the introduction of a ridiculous looking made up character. Ie the CEO of racism, or the little banjo hamster in the last comic. I really liked this guy Cornelius P. Soup when I drew him up, but in universe he is quite a sinister figure.

Oh my gosh I had no idea

Had fun trying to merge a few different styles for some moments in the panels. I try to draw from a reference in a way that I think will make things more visually funny or interesting. For poses like the two employees in panel one, and the employee in panel two, using a reference isn’t necessary and I can draw from memory. But for key moments like the sly look back in panel 2, or the employee reaction in the final panel, I had to pose myself to get that extra je ne say quah. View Post

She just doesn’t see the vision.

Bonus photo of the quick ideation phase for the wedgie-matic contraption featured in the second panel. It’s never made any sense to me when artists have really good looking sketch books. My sketch books always looks roughly like what is shown here and any attempt I’ve made to have a good-looking sketchpad has been fruitless and stupid. I haven’t made any posts or statements about AI art, it feels redundant to me at this point. But b...

Honestly guys I have no idea with this one. Sometimes there’s an idea so stupid and pointless that’s nagging at me and I gotta see it through. This one required so much redrawing just to make sense visually. Good drawing practice anyway.

Heading to Gainesville in a couple days for SwampCon where I’ll be guesting! If any of you happen to be in the North Florida area, it’s a free convention and I’ll be tabled there!

The grand high wizard alien council is pleased. For a fairly simple-looking two panel idea, this was up there with the most difficult to construct. Partly because of the individual poses, for which I used photos of myself as a reference for a record 6 times.

There was a lot of push-pull with this idea. Of course the orangutan in the hammock came to me first and it was a matter of getting it into a comic. Originally the idea was a guy dreaming of the scene, then waking up and getting ready for work, which felt too simple. I’m especially conscious of making each individual panel interesting in some way— not necessarily complex or difficult to draw, but if it’s simple it should be funny in its simplicity. The guy dreaming in bed ...

I gotta tell you guys it is definitely extending the length of my process for each comics completion, but I am really enjoying taking the time to detail and shade in the coloring process. I’ve thought recently about submitting some work to the New Yorker but the idea of drawing something in just black and white seems boring to me.

Unrelated news but I am heading to Gainesville next weekend for my first convention appearance this year! In person events are hands down bec...

These guys go way back

3/20/25

This idea started as the first two panels alone, but I didn’t think the punchline was funny or interesting enough and I tabled the idea. Later in the day I was thinking of a twist to make it funny and the idea for the third panel came to me. Makes it much lighter and I think sillier imagining this cow being good friends with this old Italian guys.

Here’s a good example of using a variety of references for a drawing, in this case the face in the top panel and the same guy doing the stanky leg in the second panel. One of these I took a photo of myself, another photo I found online. Which one is which, however, will remain a mystery sealed for eternity.

I actually had two different ideas for the presentation of this joke, but one was more subdued and this one was more punchy. Figured this one was the funnier of the two, but not I’m considering drawing the other version as a fun exercise. Welcome to the new patrons!

What are the odds

3/14/25

One of the biggest challenges I find in webcomics is having to keep everything really tight. There’s very little breathing room on one page and you have to manipulate panels sometimes to achieve the desired pacing. I used a tactic here which sometimes gets me out of a bind, by putting a quick fist bump and interjection as a panel-within-a-panel, to save room for the reveal of master chief in the second frame. Pretty happy with how it came out. The decision to make it a smoothi...

Another really difficult one to draw lol, noticing a trend here. The color really brought it home, especially selling the contact lens in the ground which is kind of difficult to discern without the context of the second panel. Currently on a drawing tear! Making another just as I’m posting this!

The most challenging part of this drawing was finding any way to anthropomorphize bacteria. Had to cheat and just give them little arms or I think the first panel would just be too abstract.

Shoutout to anyone reading this who’s sick right now. Keep drinkin that water homie and rest up I know you’re boutta bounce back!!

Last minute decision when drawing this one to leave the whale shark mostly out of frame. Originally the blocking was different in my head, then I accidentally drew the shark too big for the frame but it made me laugh so I kept it that way.

Cheers guys love you!

Another really fun one to color. The coloring process has become the lengthiest part of my routine in the last couple months but I’m really having fun discovering new little jokes while I’m coloring. There’s a restrictive side to my style of drawing— once I ink the lines, they’re set and the coloring is secondary. By taking more time to detail and color, I added some jokes not suggested by the linework. (The tan lines on the defendant in the final panel, the glowing fl...

Gonna try a new naming convention on the patreon. Instead of naming these with the dates like I’ve been doing, I’ll give them an actual title and then use this space to give you some behind the scenes on my process with these comics.

Really fun one to draw here. Tried to keep attention to detail with the flora looking prehistoric above water. Also tried some new shading techniques on the riverbed. Hardest part of this piece was settling on a face for the absolutely gagg...
