Hello, Patrons. I'm pleased to bring you the new episode a whole 3 days before the general public gets to see it! Please tell me what you think. And also, if anyone's got suggestions for a better, funnier, more enticing, more SEO-friendly title, please let me know!

Why, look at that colorful chart. I've started working on the last stage of production of the upcoming episode - the sound! Ugh, the sound. Such a pain. I long for the era of silent films. In that era I would already be done.

Rendering this simulated 3D collapse of a "pen mosaic" overnight. It takes just under 2 minutes per frame, for 88 frames. All for a silly joke that opens the next episode. Really hope this works :|

Here's the Avid sequence of the next episode in rough form. The pink parts are the fully completed explanation "breakdown" segments. The rest is just me on screen, you know, THE BORING STUFF. Next I need to create a 3D rendering of a mosaic made of pens to which I will add the pen I'm holding. I'll attempt to do this using Blender, an open-source 3D animation program I'm not very well-versed in...

Sooo, despite being under the weather, I'm plugging along on the next episode. As you can see, the filming and editing are done, as well as both "breakdowns", as I call them. These are the animated segments of the actual explanations, the "meat" of an episode, if you will. They are the most time-consuming, so this is a good place to be. Left are the visual effects (things like holding the video player in my hand), finessing of how the color of everything looks (grading) and making the audio clea...

This is the other character from the animated segment in the Viral Comets episode (http://youtu.be/h0pIZH-W6b4). I was trying to emulate the drawing style of the animations in the Cosmos reboot. You can download the high-res JPEG through the link just under the picture.

This is one of the types of things I'll be posting for $8+ patrons. You can download the high-res JPEG through the link just under the picture.. This drawing is from the Viral Comets episode (http://youtu.be/h0pIZH-W6b4). It was rigged up with various mouth movements, blinking and the head and hands moved independently. Is this relevant to your interests?

Let's kick things off with this little making-of video of the episode guest starring Randi. It's one of the bonus features on the DVD, so if you own that you may have seen it. But I thought I'd post it here as a test for sharing videos on Patreon. It's an unlisted link from my YouTube channel - people can't find it unless they know the exact URL. So please don't share, otherwise it defeats the whole purpose of rewards for your fellow patrons. By the way, just a couple days ago, Randi announced...
2015-01-30 16:52:02 +0000 UTC View PostHey, everyone! As I understand, the pledges don't kick in until tomorrow, so today, while we're still just platonic pals with no passionate money transactions involved, I'd like to share a couple of pieces of bonus content with all the patrons, regardless of pledge level. Stand by!

I'm quite humbled by this immediate wave of support from all of you, including one person's spectacularly generous pledge far above the highest reward level. Thank you all. Here's a picture of me being humbled. (from the shoot of the Patreon intro video)
