Thrones & Bones Kickstarter - Interview with Lou Anders

We’re excited to be part of a Kickstarter launching today, run by our friend and patron Lou Anders. You may well know Lou from his novels or his Hugo award-winning editing and you’ve probably seen him around here in the comments sections. We first got to know Lou around 6 years ago when Joe and our eldest daughter read Lou’s middle-grade book series Thrones & Bones. Now those stories are the basis for Lou’s new 5e campaign setting book, <...

50% Discount Code - Bodeham Castle: Under Construction

Hey everyone,

We've just released a map which we think covers a pretty rare location. We've depicted a castle under construction, with partially built walls, cranes, platforms and building material.  Aside from being an interesting and unique location for an adventure, it also offers lots of tactical and encounter situations - walking along the tops of the wall, dangerous swordfights on rickety platforms.

March's Map of the Month Preview - Fort Torriwatch

Hey all!

Time for a preview of March's MotM!

An oft-requested location, we decided it was time for a timber fort in the wilderness!

Fort Torriwatch is a 30x30 map, with both interior and exterior views of the buildings. It's a nice wooden fort guarding the road and also a river, with plenty of space for guards to patrol the palisade fence.

March's Third Map - Winning Idea

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the dozens of ideas for the Third Map around the theme of 'Hideout'.

We randomly picked a winner - which was  :

Rainer Rösch
An urban hideout, the   old bookshop with ancient tomes and dust like suggested above. Maybe a   teleport circle hidden away? A meeting chamber of a cabal/spies maybe?

He was referencing an i...

February's MegaDungeon Preview - The Dark Road Map 2

Hey,

We're continuing wandering along the Dark Road, and after ignoring some ominous tunnels we've discovered that the road is blocked by rubble, and we'll have to go through the tunnels after all!

Are those cobwebs?

This 20x30 map will be in the February reward bundle :)

February's Sci-Fi MegaMap Preview - New Atami Heights - Car Park

Hey everyone,

Last month you got the ground floor of the cyberpunk New Atami Heights apartment block, with some residential and commercial rooms, as well as some street areas. Before we go up, we wanted to go down and map the two lower levels. For February's level, you'll be getting the car park level. It's a 20x20 map that sits under the ground floor map, and has ramp, stair and elevator access. We'll be providing it with and without cars, and at a push it could even do as a modern map...

February's Third Map Preview - The Temple in the Swamp

Hey everyone,

We had great fun reading through the Third Map suggestions (there must have been 100!). We had asked you which locations do you have trouble finding maps for, and not only did it give us a good map for the Third Map but also ideas for other areas to work on in the future, so thanks!

We noticed that lots of you suggestion swamp related locations, so that's what we decided to go with. We've designed a lost temple, partially flooded in a sinister swamp.  We wanted ...

Bonus Tiles - Goblinstair Cavern Collapsed Bridges!

Hey everyone,

An adventure-writer we work with asked if we'd be happy to produce a couple of 'collapsed' bridge tiles to go with our Goblinstair Cavern megadungeon - and we figured why not have them all collapsed, and give the tiles to Patrons too!

So, if you're using Goblinstair Cavern, one of our MegaDungeons, you now have a set of tiles for each bridge showing it collapsed. There's pdf, full jpeg and VTT files, with both grids and no grids.

A little housekeeping notice

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to update everyone with a couple of updates about various bits :)

Year 1 Vault Links

Lots of you have either commented, or messaged, to say that the links for the Year 1 vault were displaying 'max redeemed'.  We actually went through all of them a fortnight ago, updated all 31 links with new codes, and then Patreon didn't save the edit!

We did it again, and half of them saved!

So, we've now updated them again and we...

February's Alt-Version preview - The Navigator's Guild

Hey everyone,

Time for a preview, eh?  The winning entry in the alt-version poll was to create a Navigator's Guild house, ideal for sailors and other nautical types.

We had great fun creating this - hopefully it can fit into your adventures!

February's Variants - Preview

Hey everyone!

We had great fun working on the variants for the MoTM (The Wizard's House).  We wanted to make a couple of very useful urban maps with the nice building we had, and we thought back through various suggestions we've had over the years. We settled on a pair of day/night maps of a noble's urban residence (works well for a wealthy merchant too), and an abandoned urban house with an overgrown garden.

These maps will be in the February reward bundle

p.s. today w...

50% Discount - Explorer Country Roads

Hey everyone,

We've been keen recently to do another set like our Explorer Beaches & Coves which is a set of maps that join into a seamless long map, but are usable on their own.

We wanted to do a nice country lane - going from agricultural farmland out into less used, but still rural, areas.  We also figured that ...

February's Sci-Fi Map Preview - Syiosys Dam E-54

Hey everyone,

For February's Sci-Fi map we wanted to do a location that would be really exciting to play on, and also doesn't really exist much out there as a battlemap.

We settled on this - the Syiosys Dam. It's a large 50x30 map, with both interior and rooftop versions for the buildings either side. It's great for sci-fi, cyberpunk, modern and even post-apoc games.

And of course, we had to give a breached version, for when the inevitable happens!

February's Alt-Version Poll

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the suggestions for how to re-imagine the Wizard's House.

We've picked our 5 favourites:

  • Desert Palace - walled oasis garden, sumptuous interior furnishing
  • Library - grand public building, study rooms, stacks of bookshelves
  • Navigators Guild House - located beside the sea, with small marina, and meeting rooms for navigators
  • Urban Druid House - a druid'...

February's Map of the Month Preview - The Wizard's House

Hey everyone,

Just days into January and we're already previewing February's Map of the Month. And boy, is it a bumper one!

Last month, amongst the many suggestions for January's Third Map (which was won by The Spring of Life) we spotted an idea from Daniel McCarthy who suggested a random circle of a wizard's workshop, in the middle of nowhere, after a teleport spell has gone wrong.

It wasn't the random winner, but we really loved the idea, and got thinking. Wouldn't it be c...

January's Megadungeon Preview - The Dark Road Map 1

We made a start on the Dark Road, a winding path that takes you through the Underdark and to some Drow ruins, past various dangers!

Unlike previous megadungeons, each map will connect horizontally, giving a better impression of a road. Of course the road is descending, but laterally rather than vertically.

We've tried to make sure that each 20x30 section is usable in itself, and also that there is at least one exit that matches up with our Under Cave modular set, allowing you to e...

January's Sci-Fi MegaMap Preview - New Atami Heights: Apartment Block Ground Floor

Hey,

January is always exciting because we get to start a new megamap, and for the next 6 months we'll be building up the popular New Atami apartment block.

Welcome to the ground floor of the New Atami Heights apartment building. Some of the external frontage is given over to shops, but there are some apartments on this floor. A set of ramps lead down to a car park, and stairs and elevators indicate other levels yet to come.

This map is 30x30 in order to give some street are...

The Third Map preview - The Spring of Life

For January's preview we asked you to suggest any fantasy map at all, and then we picked randomly to see what we'd make.

The winning idea came from Nathan Mitchell, who suggested a deep frozen icy mountain range, but in one valley the Spring of Life, the start of a mighty river, brings a verdant oasis to the bleak landscape.

It's a very unique map, and it was lots of fun to make. It certainly lends itself to fantasy adventures!

This map is actually a 50x50 - we wanted enough...

January's Alt-Version preview - The Warrior Stones: Barbarian Hill Tomb

Hey everyone,

Preview time! The winning alt suggestion for the Fort of the Dragon-Egg Guard goblin cave complex was to turn it into a winter mountain slope, leading to a sacred barbarian site.

It's always fun to completely change the atmosphere and setting of a map, and so it was very enjoyable to turn a goblin cave into a mountain slope!

This 30x30 map will be in the January reward bundle

January's Sci-Fi Preview - Terra Glacia Hab-Colony

Hey everyone,

Time for January's Sci-Fi preview!

We've gone cold, since it's winter, and put together a new colony map, consisting of hab modules on a frozen planet or moon. You could even use it for exploring a Polar region on Earth.

This 30x30 map has both interior and exterior versions, and uses the same architecture style as the Icaria Planum martian base we released a few months back, allowing you to say the same corporation have colonies on different worlds.

January's Alt-Version Poll

Hey everyone,

First, we wanted to mention the winner of the random Third Map pick. We had dozens of great ideas, and we randomly picked a winner from all the entries.  The winner was Nathan Mitchell and their idea of 'The Spring of Life - a verdant valley & spring, surrounded by deep winter'.  This map will be the 3rd Map for January.

January's Map of the Month Preview - Fort of the Dragon-Egg Guard

Hey everyone!

We're excited to preview January's MotM. If you've had a chance to read the adventure supplement we made for Rochemont Quarry you might have noticed a little adventure hook involving goblins and a dragon egg they guard.

Well, we thought it would be really fun to make a cave system containing a dragon egg, and guarded by goblins or kobolds!

This 30x30 map should be lots...
