VINTAGE CON SKETCHES: More ladies from the summer of 2000!

Here are s'more Vintage Con Sketches from the summer con season of 2000, once again scanned from old photocopies of originals drawn on linen-finish cardstock, hence the fabric pattern on the background pencil tones.

A few words:

Yet another Alita/Gally/etc., this time from whatever the hell that rollerball-ish mechanized sport was called in the original View Post

DISTRESSED DAMSELS: Miscellaneous sketch sets ahoy—HUSHED HALF-ELF, ROSE & LILY and more!

Behold, a bunch of miscellaneous Distressed Damsels sketch sets, each worked up to generate poses for later reuse in either a future commission or possible comic project.

The first two were vaguely slated to feature an elven sorceress "laid low" for a long-term commissioner's request, hence the crystal ball g*g (in theory) magically robbing her of spell use in the first tier of images:

Life drawings from photoreference: high-res scans #158—now with EMPOWERED(-ish) content!

For possibly the final time, I'm doubling up with these latest (well, latest to post) sets of life drawings from random photoref. First above is an August 2017 sketch set, followed by another, earlier set from June 2017. UPDATE #1: Nope, switched 'em around, as I thought the Empowered-related set from June of images based on chrome body paint was more striking.

Note that we've (rather a while ago) crossed an impo...

WORK STAGES: Another shockingly difficult pin-up, pt.1!

I'm more than a tad dubious about posting DC or Marvel stuff here, so keep this to yourselves, okay?

Anyhoo, following up on a previous Harley Quinn variant cover, this time around I tried a fantasy-RPG-oriented cover concept, which of course would be more relevant to future work such as The Last Party (aka the new comic project that merges characters from Hushed Half-Elf and Party of Two<...

WORK STAGES on my UNNAMED ROBOT COMIC pages, pt.10!

Behold, following up on an earlier post of layout pages from Unnamed Robot Comic (better known as 2004's mecha-team miniseries Livewires), here are the work stages on a lengthy stretch of issue #6, the climax of the series, that I wound up almost entirely penciling myself, as opposed to leaving the work to series penciler Rick Mays; I did so either for deadline re...

My way-too-tight layouts for "Unnamed Robot Comic" issue #6, pt.3!

UPDATE: Here's a link to our previous installment from a month ago (oops), in case you'd forgotten what the heck was going on in the series. By this point in our increasingly grim and seemingly hopeless story, only Stem Cell was left to carry on the Livewires' quixotic mission; earlier in the issue, she'd just finished a grotesque hacking of her own AI to alter her pe...

Coming up in September on this here Patreon!

As the end of August and the monthly exodus of 20 to 30-odd Patrons looms, thought I'd put up a quick list of content I'm contemplating for September. Yay?

*I'll definitely be showing more Work Stages on that Wolverine/ Man-Thing story (for the Marvel anthology Crypt of Shadows), as I just got in the first five pages of coloring on the pages.

*Likewise in the coloring vein, look for the final Work Stages...

DISTRESSED DAMSELS: Preview of upcoming CSP test comic ROSE & LILY: FLOWERS OF PERIL!

So!

Much as long-ago Kei & Yu--er, Rose & Lily commissioned damsel-in-distress comic pages were a test bed of sorts for the pencil-based art format I'd later use on Empowered, once more the girls are being roped—ha ha!—into an experiment to familiarize myself with actually drawing comic pages in Clip Studio Paint via Wacom Cintiq.

See, I am nowhere near the level of skill and/or comfort with the ol' Cin...

Old PARTY OF TWO story in roughs-only format, NOW WITH DIALOGUE!

So!

A few years back, I roughed out this 7-page Party of Two story, "Distractions," and put up the thumbnails here, in a post I don't care to bother looking up. However, whilst glancing through old files as I struggle to develop the successor project The Last Party, I noticed that I had actually written hitherto unseen dialogue for this old narrative.

Wellp, I took an hour or two in Clip Studio Paint and...

Weekend Bonus Post: Some PARTY OF TWO/ THE LAST PARTY Half-Orc sketchin'!

Leading into Monday's upcoming posting of a newly dialogued Party of Two short story, here's a recent set of (iPad) Clip Studio Paint sketches based on a recent Instagram post by the great Shinnoske70, who drew a fine set of pose studies of She-Hulk that I, in turn, thought would make a neat basis for some sketchin' of Party's Half-Orc healer.

I've not drawn the character in quite a while, so this seemed like a fine opportunity to refa...

DISTRESSED DAMSELS: 2019-ish sketch sets of ROSE imperiled, with (& without) tragic narration by her partner LILY!

Following up on a 1997-era commissioned sketch set I posted here last month, circa 2019 or so I took a break from wrapping up Empowered vol.11 to revisit that old set's rather vague scenario of poor Kei-- nay, Rose being taken captive by an unseen, whip-wielding bad guy very loosely based on a scene from the old Dirty Pair TV series.

WORK STAGES on another birthday-gift illo of a D&D 5e character from my campaign!

So, here's another birthday-gift illo drawn for one of my niece's other characters from my on-again, (currently) off-again D&D campaign. (Ehh, don't feel like combing back through the archives to find my sketch of her first character.) In fact, this PC's from a now-shelved alternate campaign, as we briefly ran a different, smaller party while another of my nieces was, y'know, giving birth to one of my grand-nephews. Recently unearthed a photocopy of the inks for this 1999(?) pin-up I drew for a special issue (a Summer Special, apparently) of Jeff Campbell's Cliffhanger book Danger Girl, so here 'tis!

Behold, an old commissioned sketch set (from 1997 or so, judging by the nose and costume design) featuring Dirty Pair's Kei--nay, Rose bedamseled by an unseen captor. I think of this format as "Cheesecake Focus," in that we never really see the bad guy or any backgrounds or settings, just the damsel getting distressed.
