Behold, a pair of Clip Studio Paint sketch sets based on some of the art requests suggested by the fine folks of the $5 tier! (Time for the $3 art request post, looks like.) I'd hoped to add a few scans of older con sketches based on the Devil Kei/ Angel Yuri and Harley Quinn requests, but guess what? My ancient version of Photoshop has suddenly decided it won't import anything but g-d PDFs. Yayyyyy!
UPDATE (11:30am): Photoshop's still borked and will need to be r...

Yet again, I'm doubling up with this week's set of life drawings from random photoref. (Someday I'll have to downgrade to a single piece per post, but my buffer of these pieces remains reasonably large.) First above is a set from September 2018, while the second set is an example from January 2017, fairly early on in the effort.
Below, enjoy the higher-res, raw and untweaked grayscale scans as PSD attachments.

This promo illo for the fast-approaching Emerald City Comic-Con was posted by the con's Twitter account earlier this week, so I thought I might as well post the work stages here, too.
Note that the idea is that Emp is freaking out about the looming event, whereas 'Jette isn't, or at least not in the same manner as Emp. Kozue is likewise saying "AAAAAAA" in Japanese hiragana form, which would of course sound the same; BTW, that kana is based on the default font used in ...

It's high time to get a jump on the ol' February art requests with you fine folks of the $5 tier! As usual, the focus for these pieces and sketch sets will be on Clip Studio Paint digital-art tests, but with a slightly different, two-pronged approach over the next few months:
1) First, while I'm quite comfortable sketching and drawing roughs in CSP, I am nowhere near having a viable art technique for finished, printable comic pages and illos. None of the app's ...

Got no time today for a detailed post, so above are a few (relatively) rough sketch sets drawn for a commissioner who was cool with such loose artwork, along with the later Empowered pages that reused poses from those sets.
Finally, the last piece in the gallery above was drawn t'other day in Clip Studio Paint for a $10 tier art request suggesting a bondage drone of some sort deviling a hapless Emp.
On the CSP tip, just bought one of the 2020-02-19 14:08:04 +0000 UTC

Following up from the cliffhanger ending of the last bunch of Empowered vol.12 pages I posted here a few weeks back, enjoy a wholesome few pages of Spooky and her smilodon friend—plus a potentially momentous implication for Emp with that final panel on the third page! (Plus the work-stage roughs for each page.)
Also, enjoy the big cat's whiskers, which were inked on...

I recently unearthed the tattered remnants of my comic collection from early childhood, and stumbled across a 1976(!) issue of Marvel's Black Goliath that might well have been an indirect influence on Emp's supersuit from Empowered. (I say "indirect" because I haven't laid eyes on this issue in forty-odd years.)
A few words of introduction:
"After being attacked by Stilt-Man with his Z-Ray, Black Goliath, Celia and her ...

I'm not 100% sure that I didn't already post this cover months and months ago, but as I have 10 g-d minutes to schedule this post, I gotta roll with it!
Above are the work stages for my cover illo for issue #1 of UDON's Street Fighter Legends: Ibuki miniseries, a project written by my friend Jim Zub and featuring art by Omar Dogan. Final colors by Emily Warren (no relation), done over my uninked pencils; worked out pretty well, I think.
Gotta go; ho...

Behold, a quartet (UPDATE: quintet!) of Clip Studio Paint sketch sets based on art requests from the $20 tier! The files are a bit larger than previous ones because I'm drawing at higher resolution nowadays, in the hopes of gaining a better idea of what a finished art technique (for published comics) might be like.
UPDATE CLARIFICATION: Ehh, the last one already appeared as a bonus illo in last Wednesday's Distressed Damsels feature, but I thought I mig...

Wellp, I'm running a bit behind on art requests this month, so it's high time to get started with you fine folks of the $5 tier! As I'm on the verge of going "whole hog" on the ol' digital (more on this subject in a future post) and need to start messing around with more finished art tests, I'm unlikely to be able to handle as many requests as I usually do. See, I need to start testing techniques for comics-reproducible artwork, which is bound to be slower and more time-consuming than t...
