Page 51 progress snapshots!

I've pulled up my rough layout sketch (above), and started redrawing it (below) using some photo reference and a dash of imagination.
Imagination draws on experience! So practising the fundamentals and using photo reference and real life reference is important. For Lusty, I used a combination of one suitable female nude, and a photo I took of myself (clothed!) to get the arms looking how I wanted. Lilya is entirely from imagination.

Lusty Page 50 WIP

I spent most of my time on the last panel there.

The idea with the slowly-shrinking sequence of panels is to imply the passage of time. I'll probably make them darker too! We'll see.

Lilya as a mermaid - another wip!

Thought I'd give you an update just as I'm starting another painting session on this mermaid piece.

I'm also working on the next page of Lusty, and some other commissions including another pic involving Lusty and a Minotaur (she does seem to like monster men!).
I'll post updates on those soon.

Lilya MerMay MIPs!

So yeah, here we are with a little look in on another MerMay piece. I wasn't sure if I'd have time to do another, but hopefully this will get finished before the end of the month.

I started with some sketches to find the pose I wanted first.

Then I moved on to developing the costume and look of Mermaid Lilya, and we have this so far.

Learning times

I did some study tonight on muscle anatomy in the upper and lower arm, because I started doing a commission and realised I desperately needed to get better at drawing arms! Thought I'd let you guys see what I'm up to if you're curious.
I've recently been watching and rewatching Proko videos on youtube, and he has an anatomy series. Muscles, bones, tendons. Good info in a fun package, if you're familiar with drawing and looking to improve.

So for #MerMay I wanted to do some of my characters as mermaids, and I've started with Lusty. We'll see if I get around to anyone else. It would be a lot of work lol

Anyway here's some WIP shots!
I started by sketching a few poses to see what I liked, and then put that one in a little box to make sure the composition was how I wanted it. I also drew a few seashells to get inspiration for how she's clothing herself.

Painterly WIP!

Did a little more work on this page today.

I was inspired to try doing these panels with a more traditional painting approach, while keeping the lines so it's not too different from earlier pages. I really like how it turned out! What do you think?
