With Blender 4.0 having been released this past week, we've been internally testing Goo Engine 4.0 to get it ready for production and release. So far things have been good to go, so here it is!! Enjoy!
The biggest updates of 4.0 are the updates that we've inherited from Blender's master branch. This includes a whole new bone collections system for rigs, some asset browser updates, and a new font for the whole UI.

We've created a few tools over the years to help us with our animation workflow! One of the biggest and most helpful tools has been "Bake to Empties" which allows us to do all sorts of space switch tricks for easier handling by the animator afterwards. There's several different ways Bake to Empties can work, and each of these options gives the animators more control depending on the situation they're in. This 3D model of the gun we used in Progenitor is now available for download! The license specifies that its primary use for should be for studying and information. Using the asset directly in Commercial projects is not allowed, such as being used as a game asset in a game to sell later.
Personal projects, such as a demo reel, are allowed :) however, please do not redistribute or resell the asset!

If you're crashing a lot on Mac and you have an M1 chip, this is the fix for you.
We had a lot of people using M1 chip Macs saying they have issues with Goo Engine's shaders crashing or not working in various ways. This is because Goo Engine was developed for OpenGL support, not Metal.

So from our Mac users, we received several reports that the build was crashing on render or when set to rendered view. Unfortunately, none of our developers are Mac users, so it has been difficult to debug accurately via just the cloud server we rented.

Hey guys! Just releasing an intermediate build with a brand new experimental feature:
Continuous Trackball
This is for those who may be more familiar with Maya's trackball. It gives a bit more of a 3D transformation than Blender's default trackball behavior (which is screenspace based). We had a few Maya animators bring it up so we decided to try to replicate it ourselves.

This demo file by Soranin demonstrates the newest Texture Mapping Randomize feature for Grease Pencil lineart. Without this, adding custom textures to lineart would repeat the texture across each stroke in exactly the same way, making the repetition very noticeable, and unusable for organic looking lines.

- For Goo Engine stuff, there was a bug where Set Depth node was broken specifically for NVIDIA GPUs. That's been fixed!

Hey goos! Here's a custom add-on we made a while back that helps us manage our view layers more intuitively than what's offered in native Blender.
You can download it here ! Make sure to go to the add-on settings and turn on "Replace original ViewLayer menu" for the UI to show up at the top.

Hey goos! So we had some small bugs in the previous build regarding the Node-based Light Groups that we went ahead and fixed up! We also fixed up the material preview spheres. These should be working as intended now.
