Fibre optic connection booked

If all goes to plan, and allowing for a 12 week lead time, I'll be getting fibre optic in.  That should hopefully provide smoother live streams.

Today I also ordered a really vintage ozone generator from the 1920's for exploration.  It looks suitably wooden and dangerous.

It's main purpose is to avoid having to repeat the science of ozone each time I feature an ozone producing device.  But it also tries to battle the huge amount of propaganda on the fashionista "health" websites.

Circuitry is fairly standard, but was a bit harder to trace through because of the white solder resist and fairly dense clusters of tracks in areas.

Unwinding a tiny transformer

Very "retro" design that may be Japanese

I'm making a guess that this unit may be an ongoing product originally biased towards the Japanese market.  I can recall buying one literally decades ago.  Possibly even before the Internet!

For a tablet it seems very bodged together.  I get the feeling that the improvised aluminium tape screening was an attempt to make satellite reception more accurate by reducing radiated noise from adjacent circuitry.

I also got stumped trying to reverse engineer a PCB with masses of tiny tracks and vias that kept leading me along wrong paths.  I'd need to print it out much bigger to properly reverse engineer it.

For a sign using LEDs like these, I'd tend to recommend making it easily serviceable to allow routine swapping out of the LEDs to maintain good intensity over time.

Easy and laid-back build

I really enjoyed building this replacement.  It's a simple tester I used to choose LEDs for specific prop-making projects back when gallium nitride LEDs were just becoming affordable from China, albeit usually out of factory dumpsters.
