This is the extra short 3 min version of the JUGEE battery teardown.

The full size 36 minute one will hopefully be ready for viewing tomorrow, so this one might include spoilers. In fact, it's all spoilers.

I've made two versions of the JUGEE 1.5V rechargeable lithium cell video. One is 3 minutes long (I'm about to upload it) and the other is 36 minutes long, and involves dremeling the lithium cell case.
Even after that it doesn't answer all the questions, because the resin they used was very hard and took fire to remove, but still didn't reveal the number of the mystery 16 pin control chip. It may be proprietary.
Technically speaking, it could all be done with a 5 pin cu...

It appears that some fast chargers can be updated via their cable, and experimental malware has been written that allows a small device to be plugged into a fast charger and modifies its code so that whatever voltage is negotiated is replaced with the full 20V anyway.

I filmed this video at a ridiculous time (about 6am) when the previous video subject turned out to be very time consuming due to a construction that is trying to be Clive-proof. (I will defeat it!)
https://youtu.be/cvXWr8FV51s
It's a badly designed ozone generating ring that I modify at the end of the video to just run on an elevated voltage for better functionality.

The picture is of a tiny circuit board that fits on the end of a lithium cell in a high profile Jugee rechargeable AA cell that puts out a solid 1.5V for most of the discharge and then 1V to signal that its running low and is about to cut off.
This was supposed to be last nights video, but has been very frustrating due to a very hard glass-like resin that won't dissolve in acetone and seems quite heat resistant too.
I'll keep working on it, but tonight's video will be about an ozo...

A different type of video with this channel. I know that quite a few of you have beards.

If I do release it on this channel I may just release it at the same time as a technical video.

I've had a small batch of these made. If you want one of the PCBs to play with then let me know and I'll send at least 20 out to randomly chosen Patreons.

I'll probably pre-solder the USB socket on and include the little 3-way socket too.

Something's glitching. Youtube doesn't like my compression destroying mega Gallium panel.
Here it is though, and it takes around three hours to build, mainly because you need to solder one lead of each LED first and then reflow it while lining it up with gentle finger pressure. A larger PCB assembly frame would have been a good option here.

Starting with preformed resistors, time to insert and solder 70 minutes.
Now for the LEDs.

Pretty fast shipping even by standard mail, and no duty - which was nice.

That's the stream set up. It turned out that the reason I couldn't set it up before was due to my inability to differentiate between 12 and 24hr time. So arranging it for 9am this morning was not possible due to YouTube not implementing time travel yet.

I was thinking about doing a Patreon-only live stream tonight.
What do you guys think of that idea?
I've tried prearranging a stream, but have discovered a blip where once you have arranged one (Saturday's normal stream) it won't let me add an earlier one.
If we do go ahead with this I may have to set the date in the future, but it will go ahead tonight instead. (Hopefully not causing another blip in the process.)

This stuff is "minimalist". It's basically 120/240V RGB LED tape in the style of neon.
It uses a simply remote control unit to allow colour mixing and fading by phase angle control.
https://youtu.be/7fsa7WH1ajU
You don't need the controller to make it light in fixed colours, but the cable that connects to the strip is a bit odd.

If you've noticed a slight lull in videos recently it's because I was trying to do my annual tax stuff. It's strange how I can write assembly code for microcontrollers, but when it comes to working out how I spent every single penny over the last year it leaves my head spinning.
But it's done and I can get back to doing productive stuff. Mainly involving taking things to bits and designing inappropriate PCBs and 3D printed objects that involve fire.
Here's a light that...

To be fair, I didn't say it was going to be LESS than 100mm / 4" in diameter.
I made this right after doing a live stream, so my voice may sound a bit hoarse.

I know this will be a minority interest PCB, but having screwed up with an earlier design - I fixed that design, but then decided to redesign it completely to split the LEDs into two sections, each with their own capacitive dropper.
It's super-symmetrical due to the function, and is natively suitable for 120V or 230V supplies.
This PCB replaces circuitry in a common eBay disco light and projects a fixed colour array of LEDs. (Or possibly slow colour changing clear ones.) &nb...

There's an error on the disco shart PCB that will not affect the 120V use, but will bridge half the LEDs for 230V use. It's not terminal, but a track will need to be cut to get the other half lit in 230V mode.
This is why I shouldn't really put up a PCB file before receiving the prototypes.
I've taken that file down and will put it back up after an extra option-link has been added.
If you've already ordered some then it's fine. It will just need that track cut fo...

It seemed a good idea at the time. Scale the LED matrix up to A4 size.
In hindsight that means a 13 by 18 array of LEDs (234) with four solder joints per LED including the resistors, and another two for the power connection.
938 solder joints......
I've ordered five.
I've also ordered five of the new version of the Disko Shart PCB with dual voltage options for 120V and 230V.
