The lighting was way too bright for the stream, so I've fixed that.
As a bonus, the light is going to last a lot longer now the LEDs and driver are running at a third of the original power.

Fellow YouTuber Thomas Nagy (an electrician working in London) sent me the charger he uses to keep his motorbike battery topped up.
He discovered the charger had died and the battery had run flat.

I wonder what sort of mentality is involved in selling either standard near-UV LED lights as germicidal or what could literally be ice-blue LED lights to make them look like traditional real UVC fluorescent tubes.
I dread to think of someone making a sterilisation chamber for a hospital to put their masks in with fake lamps that won't do the required job.

This type of listing isn't new. They were up before the whole covid thing took off.
Other than the fact it really doesn't seem to be a UVC light it's fairly typical of the classic near-UV disco lights complete with their badly isolated supplies.
Nice enough housing though. It has potential for other uses.

Just before the last livestream I decided to give an old LED lamp a makeover for use in the background of the stream. It's a DIY lamp where I just randomly decided to fit as many LEDs into a small base as possible.

When you actually get a real ioniser lamp (some are fake) they contain a tiny little potted power supply that produces around 5kV at the output to ionise the air.
I depotted one from its hard resin to reverse engineer it.
The circuitry is very simple and uses a fairly uncommon component that you may not have come across before.

Another PTC block based heater from eBay. These seem to be very common now.
This one has a very convenient 500W heater block sized for a classic computer-style fan.
