I wasn't expecting much in these units. Maybe just a resistor to limit current?
https://youtu.be/qnXTvU6-xLQ
Turns out that somebody has done some serious design on the current limiting circuitry.

If you see one of these lying in the street then scavenge it for the decent 280mAh lithium cells inside. I've done a full three charge-discharge cycles on the cell in this one and it clocks in at slightly higher than the stated capacity.
https://youtu.be/sqJFsonW85I
It's worth mentioning that the cell dimensions are a bit off tolerance to the cell number, which may be part of the reason they are being used ...

This lamp actually turned out great. The camera doesn't catch it's full effect.

I've included search links for all the components in the description on YouTube.
I'll also be releasing another much shorter video tonight for those of you who aren't into the longer videos or want to save the long one for the weekend.

It looks nice, but I wouldn't recommend screwing this into a lamp holder while the power is on.

I wonder how they can even do stuff like this. Did someone suddenly decided to make a luxury chrome one without thinking things through?

I try not to put too many videos about similar items close together, but the video I had been hoping to make has had to be delayed until I get back home so I can do it justice. (Lots of pictures needed.)
This little light is still very worthy though. It's from an independent pound shop and is very good even if just for the components inside.

Since arriving in Glasgow just 24 hours ago, I've bought and taken apart three 10W lamps from ASDA, LIDL (Philips branded) and One Below (formerly Pound World). I've also taken apart a Philips ceiling light with PIR from Lidl and reverse engineered the driver and PIR sensor. Really annoyed at not having my usual lighting/printing setup to make videos with high detail images, so if I make videos about them here It'll have to be descriptive doodles.
Also regretting not having ...

This little drone is both pleasing and terrifying. It's the new update on the classic flying ball type of toy, but this time it has intelligence and spatial awareness.
You turn it on by holding a single button, and when the light is green you simply toss it into the air. It then darts about in the room, pausing to rotate on the spot while scanning with three infrared detectors. One in front, one at the back and one underneath.
If you approach it a gun targets you...

When I saw this I thought it looked a bit flimsy. But it turns out to be a rugged little light with an interesting twist to the design.
https://youtu.be/EqLyzBJidYY
It takes standard AAA cells, but I'd recommend using rechargeables as the higher current with fresh alkalines will result in a lot of heat if used at full power.
I've put some test data in the video description.

I optimised it for efficient printing as a thin hollow (but strong) plastic shell. In hindsight it may be possible to pre-solder the LEDs into a chain before pressing them into the form and then soldering the resistors together and adding the USB cable.
