The fact that Luke found a Scar in under an hour was a testament to how badly mangled the world was in this area. The slide came to an abrupt end, and Luke jumped the last few meters to ensure there were no nasty surprises at the very edge of the moving joints. Trekking up the mountain was actually easier than Luke had expected it to be.
