Luke looked around in satisfaction as he counted the number of craters in the area. To the casual eye, this place looked like the site of a scattered meteor spell. The sand had finally stopped attacking him after he let it alone to suffer for a short while, so he returned to looking over the various plants that were growing in the area.

Not only the lotus coffins, but the other various plants that were arranged in groups a good distance from each other. He didn’t understand most of th...

Luke spent the next few days searching the surrounding territory for Scars. On the first day he found three; a dead world, a world where everything seemed to be made out of semi-intelligent metal, and a third world that made his ‘You Need To Stop’ Skill work to keep him alive. The third world was filled with energy, not mana, but something that made his health continuously drop as he adjusted to it. Everything was glowing a light blue, and he couldn’t find a single thing alive....

The fact that Luke found a Scar in under an hour was a testament to how badly mangled the world was in this area. There were many theories surrounding how Scars formed naturally, the most prevalent being that they formed in high-mana areas. Luke didn’t think that applied here; not with reality seeming so flat and false. “Not about low mana either, I bet. Gotta be about mana movement, and this desert is draining the power around here at a stupid pace.”

The mana wa...

He wasn’t sure why Taylor was so excited about the snail shell, but he decided not to rain on her parade. Luke ran alongside his team leader, his mind on other things. Now that he had a location, he could formulate a plan of attack to get Cookie back into his hands. “The birds aren’t a problem… the ant should be a whole lot easier to kill… but the ‘Corns will be ready for me this time. They won’t give her back without a fight… I know I wouldn’t, and t...

The air thrummed like a drum being beaten to death, and the world gave way as a portal was torn open. Luke fell out of the rent in the air as it slammed shut behind him, not bothering to catch himself as he dropped to the ground. Blood pooled around him, enough that the people waiting for him clearly thought that he was either dying or dead.

A massive sense of unease swept over Taylor, and she reacted by using Fissure to grab the ground under Luke with all her ...

“You’ve gotta be kidding me.” Luke stared as the beautiful white horse galloped toward him in seemingly slow motion. “There’s sentients here?”

“Absolutely there are! And you freed us, we will be eternally grateful!” The voice was coming from atop the horse, specifically from it’s iridescent horn. “The Giga-ant had warped space so much that an entire waterfall of liquid mana from above was becoming too little. Without access to enough mana, the...

The Archmage-expectant rubbed at her head. Taylor almost wanted a migraine, even though those sort of weak bodily functions had vanished for her when she became an Ascender. It would at least give her an excuse to get away from the people that had been beleaguering her for favors, advice, or to curse her out; sometimes all three at once. If she hadn’t had a chance to go hunting in her world, a chance to bring her level up to eight, she would have been even more on ...

The slide came to an abrupt end, and Luke jumped the last few meters to ensure there were no nasty surprises at the very edge of the moving joints. Just like at the top of what Luke now recognized as a knee, there was a forest here with trees so tall that they vanished into the mana clouds. They appeared to be roughly the same kind, so he ignored any available seeds and began trekking in the direction this behemoth was moving.

He sprinted for the majority of the next few days, eventuall...

Trekking up the mountain was actually easier than Luke had expected it to be. There were huge outcroppings, stone from previous impacts that had been driven deeply into the mountain, and even hardy vegetation that had grown over time in all the loose earth. Luke snorted at the idle thought that told him that the hard part was over. “Can’t expect this to be the same higher up.”

His progress was rapid, enough so that he expected to be at the top within a few hours. As he entered int...

Something was different. Luke knew it was. At first glance, Zone eleven was the same as the other areas that he had been in for his entire time in Murder World, but… he couldn’t place what was different, and it was putting him on edge. Whipping his new scourge back and forth a few times to recenter himself, Luke decided that sprinting in would be the best course of action.

He crossed the boundary while moving as quickly as he could, getting a chime and a mess...

The Druid swept his long hair out and back, calming himself down as he inhaled and looked up at the ceiling of the cave that he had claimed as his own. The scents and familiar air of the area allowed him to unwind rapidly. Andre didn’t know what it was exactly that made it harder for him to be around people after so long in a solitary state, but he was ready for some personal time.

A deep chuffing made him freeze a moment, and then he slowly turned to see an absolute <...

The orb of magic stopped above the central platform and immediately ballooned outward, turning into a jet-black cloud that filled most of the cavernous room. Ink began to fall, first in a spirt; then in a great torrent drenching everything below. The magma toads shrieked as the inky rain sizzled against their fiery hides, even the Keeper seemed momentarily caught off guard. Two of the five frogs seized up on the spot and toppled over to one side, temporarily paralyzed. The ink pooled into sma...

His fist lashed out, landing in the center of a pteranodon’s back. To Luke’s surprise, his fist went directly through the creature, and the rest of his body continued through the wide holethe next instant. A quick glance to the side at his mostly hidden notifications explained what was happening.

Damage dealt: 481 piercing. (100% of damage converted to piercing damage due to Feather’s Fall.)

“Don’t see an option to turn that off.” Luke grumbled lightly as he f...

“Alright,” Dizzy bellowed from the front of the party. “This is it, a chance to redeem ourselves! We ready to do this?”

Sam glanced away from the hulking doors that stood guard over the Irondown Forge and double checked his gear for the hundredth time. His Papier Mache Armor was already in place, and his Quill Wing Cloak hung down his back. Only one thing left to do now. He thrust a hand out with his palm extended. He felt the connection to his Interspatial Library buri...

By the end of the third day of waiting, Luke was beginning to lose it. His Skill still hadn’t managed to complete it’s upgrade, and he wasn’t sure why. None of his skills before now had ever taken more than two days to come back to him. His brow furrowed as he tried to think it through logically, frankly not his forte anymore. “This is the first time I’ve gotten to the ninth Tier. Is it just a hazard of getting a Skill to be this powerful? What does the ninth Tier of someth...

Not seeing a way to take down the flying pests, Luke decided to simply move on. He had a total of thirty days that he could spend here, and he wasn't going to waste it yelling at overgrown seagulls. They seemed content to swoop around far above, but as he progressed through Zone ten the flock size continued to grow. If there had been a sun in this world instead of the omnipresent light that seemed to come from the fog walls that surrounded the land, the pteranodons would have made the land as...

Sam worked for the next six hours magically infusing ink and chicken vellum, inscribing scrolls, prepping quills, and meticulously binding books. Thanks to hitting the Master Rank as a Bookbinder, he was ten-fold faster, but there were just so many things to do. He worked until his hand cramped, and his fingers bled from countless needle pokes until his back screamed and his legs were numb from the stool beneath him. Finally, when his stomach was grumbling in protest, and his eyes we...

Luke stared at the space Andre had just stepped through. The air was filled with the scent of fragrant flowers and juicy fruits, enough so that his stomach rumbled in anticipation of a meal. Mana converged on Luke, filling his Sigil, then imparting knowledge of his new skills. “How come he can just leave like that? I wanna leave too. This world bites. Oh. My skills just-”

Sam stood in front of the double doors that let into the Irondown Library, arms folded across his chest. He stole a glance at Bill, who was floating at his side as per usual. “You’re sure we can just take them? Aren’t they sort of attached to the dungeon?”

“Sure, technically they’re a part of the dungeon, but who cares?” the book announced hungrily. “I mean, the dungeon belongs to us… more or less. Besides, where exactly did you think we were going to get all ...

Andre watched as arcane lightning coiled through the air above Taylor like a living thing as they ran. Since fighting the storm, they had already run for several hours, and there was no chance of them stopping the remainder of the day. He sighed at the tedium of bounding along while carrying Zed, and was lightly tempted to get the Bard to play his fast-travel music.

Then he remembered that Luke would likely break Zed’s neck if the Bard tried that again.

“Spells relating to elemental forces are always incredibly powerful and difficult to subdue.” Taylor looked at the others as they ran. Andre dropped Zed a half-mile from the site the lightning was striking to make sure the physically frail man would have a chance to recover while also gaining valuable information. “They only appear when they are working to either defend their territory or find something they want to absorb. If they’re about to be captured, they’ll often fight to the...

Sam took a position near his Core with straight legs, bringing his hands together. His right hand curled into a fist that rested against his left palm. Bill took a position directly across from him and mirrored the pose. They looked like two martial artists squaring off before a bout. Though Bill was normally flippant and easy going, he looked serious as a heart attack right now, with worry lines etched into his face.

Andre’s palm was filled with a small puddle of his own blood, and a single small seed that had been marinating in it for a few minutes. Taylor was just about to start asking him about the process once again when the Druid pulled the seed halfway out of the blood and whispered, “Hemoflora.”

Mana drained out of the air around the caster and into the seed. A shining halo appeared around it, slowly revolving even after the Ability had been used. They watched the strangely bea...

“I can’t let them get to me.” Taylor let out a long breath, releasing the tension in her shoulders and feeling Cleanse whisk away a streak of sweat that had threatened to trickle down her forehead. It boggled her mind that just an hour previously, the man in front of her had moved with the unending grace of a predator.

Fingers of purple and gold were peeking over the horizon by the time Sam and Bill got back to the Irondown burrows. They swung by the barracks and found the beds full with snoozing bodies, all except for Kai. That guy was a rockstar of self-discipline.
