AJ wanted new d&d books a while back. What race/class does the whole family play? Who’s the murder hobo of the party? Will we ever have a spin off comic of their shenanigans?
Much love
William
Hi William!
I'm glad you asked this question because it's something I'm very excited about. I haven't played D&D since 8th grade where I was always the DM. Graph paper and laminated character sheets were my ever...

I read you base some of your story arcs on real life experiences and I was wondering if the current story of John losing a job because he's gay is based on any actual experience. Did you guys experience discrimination?
It's true we do base some storlines on real events, but the current storyline is a mixed bag. While I was not ever actually denied a job for the explicit reason for being gay, the character Joe is based on an old boss of mine. When I worked for...

I'm gonna be starting hrt in December finally, but I still haven't came out to my parents that I'm trans and I somewhat regularly still see them. Any advice for coming out? Or the anxiety, rather. What did y'all do leading up to when y'all came out to help? There's uncertainty on whether they'll accept me or not, I just don't know.
Funny enough the comic right now has really been resonating with me with that same kinda anxiety and uncertainty,...

So John often lovingly calls Alex "pup". Is that just a pet name or do/did the two of them have a D/S relationship when they first met? Also curious if Alex has a collar or a pup name 🐶
In a previous question I answered a similar question and explained I view Simon like a pup in our relationship and so it was a natural fit to have Pop refer to Dad affectionately that way as well. That being said they do have their privacy and secrets so we may never know i...

Hey! First off I just want to say this Q&A is a fantastic idea! I love when creators make opportunities for fans to communicate with them!
My question is this: There are a lot of geeky/nerdy elements to your comic. As fans of various fandoms yourselves, how does it feel knowing you built your own fandom that people love and care about? PS: I absolutely adore how John calls Alex ‘Pup’. It never fails to make me smile. Where did the inspiration for that ni...

I myself am gay. I have friends and family who are of the LGBT community and friends and family who are of the religious community. Both sides in my eyes are equally amazing but both sides can’t seem to stop hating/resenting the other to the point where they both want me to pick a side. How can I best try to bring peace or at least ease the tension between both sides without making a difficult choice?
It can be very difficult to be in the middle of so...

Do you limit your canvas space to print-compatible sizes or do you sometimes use the power of web publishing to be as small or large as an episode needs? I'm curious since you have published books and are syndicated (online at GoComics). If I may sneak in a second question, have you made other comics than AJ & Magnus?
Best wishes,
Bob

Hello guys! My fiance is an amazing budding graphic artist and I want to encourage him as best as I can. Right now, he is using Gimp to create things on his laptop. For Christmas, I want to get him an art tablet or drawing tool for his computer and an art program so he can really start fine tuning his art. I was wondering if you could give me, and anyone else looking into the art world, some recommendations on where to start and what you use to create your artwork and comics?

How much of the characters/ story arcs are based off your life? Thank you so much for making something showing how normal and loving a lgbt family is. I love that Alex and Jon are visibly in love and no one is the stereotypical dumb dad or anything like that. They just who they are.
Big Hug!

My question is how much of your own experience do you put in your comics? The characters are super relatable in their personality types and the experiences they've had really mirror things that have happened in the lives of my friends and myself. Are the arcs in this series direct parallels to your own lives or do you take a lot of creative liberty for sake of the story?
All the best,
Dave

So I kind of mean this as a joke question, but what would Alex do if he caught someone spray-painting his garden gnomes?
Well, AJ & Magnus P.I. would track the culprit down and Alex would make them repaint the gnomes by hand of course!

Hey guys!
Growing up I knew the one thing I always wanted to be was a father, and apparently it ran in the genes because my entire family seemed to have loud biological clocks telling them to reproduce. Well, me being gay seemed to throw a wrench in those plans for me, but as my life progressed and especially after seeing these comics, I felt renewed in that I could still be the person I always wanted to be.
My question is when...

When you get the story/gag idea for a strip how do you decide on what dialogue and images get used? There's a limited amount of space to work with and you both do a great job utilising it, so are there some lines/images you just know will be there or does it need more experimenting with? Are there lots of sketches to get there or are things set in your mind first? I have no idea how anyone would go about creating each strip so I'm curious. As always, you're doing great work and ...

Hey Willie!
Honestly we're pretty surprised to be here in our 6th year making the comic. It seems not too long ago we were struggling to find an audience and were ready to accept it as a failure. We've even written up our final thank you and everything. So to be where we are today is pretty aweso...

How does AJ help with the comics?
Well, honestly the most important credit to give him is he inspired the comic. We met him for the first time when he was 8, about 6 years ago. We took him up to my family's cabin in the woods for a weekend camping trip. He went wild! He had such a great time and we just loved watching him go on adventures in the woods with our Mastiff, Magnus, who was more than double his size back then. During that trip, Simon and I began talking...

I appreciate this comic so much. It just makes me so happy. Aunt Roz is my favorite, all the way. She is the Aunt I hope to be... That being said, I'm a cis female looking up to her and my friend recently came out as a trans woman. (And I am totally going to show them Roz) I'm trying to give 110% support and was wondering if any advice could be offered to me to make their transition better, or direct advice for them (they are still thinking about pronouns)?
We're happy to ...

How do you as a family and each of you individually deal with the temptation to regress and hide given our overly religious, super conservative society? -Zach
Hey Zach,
Simon and I both dealt with keeping the secret of being gay in our own way when growing up. For me, it was very risky as my parents weren't supportive of anything and had outright homophobic views and remarks to share whenever the topic came up. Simon had more supportive parents but he still had some reservations ...
