This page is interesting for a multitude of reasons. Only... I can't get into some just yet.
Also, don't bother looking for the script page, it's not here! It contains spoilers. 

You see, the way I scripted page 8, it all went too fast to my liking. I didn't like the pacing and the timing. In the original version, literally, panel 1 divided in two. The first half displayed Delilah being stunned into silence, like the panel is right now. The second half would be what now is panel...

Oh, wow, I'm soooo out of my depth describing this. :-D 

So, this was a commission for VillesVill, obviously. It's.... a character. From a game, I think. :-D
I'm soooo not into games. ;-)  

I was given several references and was allowed some creative license. I know I mainly referred to an image of a medic, but it's not an exact replica. ^_^

Pecu and I changed A LOT about this chapter, from the original story. I'll get into that once this chapter is over, to avoid spoilers for now.
One of the changes involved us getting to know Delilah a little better, which is why Jenny has been absent for a few pages.  We were also going for an emotional impact. We intentionally kept the chapter lighthearted until now, so this page would pack a bit of a punch.

When I showed this page to Peculiar Changeling, first thing he noticed was how the first panel resembles the first panel of the first page a lot.

And yet, as this script page proves, that was never the intention! I had planned on a more zoomed out version. Had even sketched it so at first, but the panel felt empty, so I was like "Let's zoom in! Yeaaaaah, faaaaaaar better!". And..... it never occurred to me that it started looking like the first panel of the chapter a lot that way.

The Making of Under Lock & Key, page 4

Two things to note here:

In the making of the previous page, I pointed out there's a "bingo" moment in drawing every character, where you just get her, and know how to draw her from that moment on. For Delilah, the fourth panel in the previous page came close, but the fourth panel for this page was IT. It's a simple panel, but for me, it's the prototype Delilah. From that moment on, I started enjoying drawing her so much, I suggested to Pecu we do a spin-off comic starring her. :-D ...

HofDoodle - and you... get... none!

This was originally an idea vaguely inspired by Goddess Aly, and I had meant for it to feature Goddess and Laura, but.... life got in the way, and this happened. Which is also fun! ^_^

Not much to say on this page, but take a look at the sketch for the third panel.
Remember me telling you faces look wobbly at first? Well, for every character, at some point, a panel comes along where you're like "THAT is her! THAT is the character!!".
From that moment on, you'll base every other panel featuring that character on that one panel, and the faces will start to look less wobbly. 

For Roxy, the third panel was the one where I felt I found her, and it's definitely...

Since the process is the same for every page, I won't show the flat-colored version for every page, unless I feel it shows something significant. :-) 

Here, I'd like to emphasise the sketch phase. Take a close look at the characters' faces. They're quite wobbly, from one panel to the next.
Delilah isn't a new character, but I haven't drawn her often yet. The other girl doesn't have a name yet in the comic, but in my mind, she's called Roxy. :-D I've never drawn her before.

Here's how the first real comic page came to be.

First, I start with a script. In some cases Pecu will have turned in a first draft of the script, in just text. Sometimes he doesn't. It mostly depends on which of us has time to do the first draft. :-) 

My first draft is always visual though. And in this phase, I don't even try to make it look good. It's where I determine layout, dialogue, camera angles, poses and facial expressions.
