Inks and flats!

Roughing takes a lot of creative juice. At the end of a week, sometimes all you want to do is trace with a brush, then trace with a lasso. ‘N that’s it.

What a day. I finished… maybe a page? Lil more? Clean roughs. Beautiful stuff. But damn what a slog. Satisfying slog. I’m feeling slog post drawing. Right now. Slog’s hittin me. But damn what a day. I’ve been making some ART!

Maybe tonight, at some point I want to write out an exclamation for a beneficial change for Keepers. I also want to put out the actual change itself. God I’m whooped. Maybe tonight I’ll set that up.

I drew PRETTY CLEAN roughs for all the Noir and Period piece stuff! That was the focus all day. Got an hour and a half left… I’m beat. There’s a few more panels that fill those pages, and I wanted to knock those out… eh I’m beat. Tomorrow we’ll knock out a bunch more.

It’s Labor Day in America, a day union workers strike! In solidarity with labor! So I took a half day.

Also, I want to do some research, check out other comics and how they draw backgrounds. What styles do I like? What styles do I want to portray in Two Tweaks? And finally, how do I do it? I’m liking a painterly approach. Classic looney toons backgrounds. Subtle, not overly complicated, establishing. Etc.

Two pages flew by easily, then I hit the double page spread of the Jedi Temple grounds.

Details are time consuming, but kinda necessary. Gotta add 8 lamps. Kill me. A bench. The entire entrance facade with more stairs. That might be the day, and I’ve got two more pages after this!

But how do you “go looser” and take less time with this? It’s perspective. You can’t fake it, it’s right there. Ugh. I may need a walk today.

So how’d I do?

Six days…. NOT six pages, but I quickly found tout that was a reach. Maybe six pages if I start AFTER the roughs have been cleaned up.

Otherwise, all character stuff is drawn, flatted, shaded. I wanna add blush here and there. Some action lines. Some emotes. But I leave that to the “final touches” stage. NEXT stage is backgrounds. And boy do we have a couple few ones. Jedi halls, Jedi training grounds, and that cool shutter-lighting effect in Ahsoka’s room.

Mid day crush

Just taking my time to do flats. Very straight forward task. Meditative. But a big chunk of the process. Finished another page of inks, but I still have one pages worth of inks to go?? Oy. I’ll get there. These six pages are going to look GREAT. I’m already so happy with so many parts. Let’s hit the next few hours!

So these two are definitely invited to the series climactic orgy, the three parter, Episode 10.

In other news, inked 3 more pages of characters. I hope to end this week with character on all 6 pages inked, flatted, and shaded. I think the backgrounds will have to wait until next week. These pages are DENSE!!

But they are some of my best work. I KNOW it.

So I’m behind schedule today. Made a bunch of NEEDED edits to the roughs, but it took half the day. That kinda burnt my drive, not to mention my perfectionist induced procrastination.

But the shading works!

Now can I ink and shade five pages tomorrow? Hooo boy that’s a tall order. I’ve been going hard so I guess I needed an easier day today. I jumped the starting hurdle. Maybe tomorrow I’ll have a real gung ho urge to just rock for 10 straight hours. Then flats on Thursd...

New shading test

Probably my 11th try at a new shading technique. Holy Sith is this it? Probably not. Am I procrastinating? Probably.

It can be super hard! But this was actually kinda fun. Will have to play around with this a little more..

First Two Tweaks double page spread

Something I liked in the first couple comics I made was drawing cameos everywhere. It really planted you in the universe. Y’all would even dm me, guessing who everyone was. Even the smallest, least detailed character would get spotted. A real Where’s Waldo.

Let’s get back to that. Check out this Jedi Temple courtyard, where everything seems to be turning Ahsoka on. I wonder why… What’s in the bag Ahsoka??
