Hello, this is Kuroda.
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for October.
Sorry for the late updates.
I’m very much looking forward to the next time that I walk around in tokyo with some of my college friends who live there so that we can do some people and environmental sketching.
I’m really putting a lot of effort into sketching better and faster so I think it’ll be a very good time.
I have been working a lot lately and learning every day. I’m still having ...

Sorry for the late post. 🙇
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for September.
Training is over and I’m practicing my (admittedly weak) lines!
I’m not very good at line drawing, so I’ve been having to study up!
My day to day feels like a struggle as drawing curved, nuanced lines with lots of expression is part of that day to day.
Pro animator but still can’t draw... 💦
That said, I’ve got a lot of good animation inspectors and senior staff...

This is my dormitory diary entry for October!
I drew about 250 frames in September.
I’ve been getting over 200 pretty consistently lately, so I’m hoping that at this rate, I can maybe exceed the 200 range this month (October).
I’m a bit relieved as, my studio’s finished all it’s projects so things have loosened up around here.
I can’t believe how cold it got all of the sudden here in Tokyo. ...

Hello, this is Sakamoto.
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for October.
The fall anime season is starting and it looks like we’ve got a lot of good shows coming.
I’d never watched the Gundam series before, but I watched Gundam: Witch of Mercury as my introduction to the series because I thought it was neat that the main character is a girl. I have no idea what the names of the various weapons in the show are, and some of the world building elements didn’t make much sen...

I got my first physical check up since joining my studio! Though, I honestly can’t say that I’ve been great about keeping up my nutrition and sleep, so I’m a bit worried about the results.
What surprised me the most was when they calculated my BMI — I guess I’ve lost a lot of weight.
I’m currently searching for ways to put on more pounds.
I told you about...

Hello.
Ura here and WOW am I excited for the fall anime season — I can’t stop losing my marbles over all the shows we have coming.
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for October.
This season, it’s all about Chainsaw Man! I haven’t actually read the manga, but just from the trailers I saw, I can tell that MAPPA is pulling out the big guns for this one.
Other than that, we’ve got Boku no Hero, Mob Psycho 100, BLEACH, SPY x FAMILY, Yowamushi Pedal, Mobile Suit Gu...

I watched the leaves on my way to work this morning, fallen from branches and waiting in the wind. They resembled a nice bit of animation and made me think of of Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese aesthetic of impermanence — or maybe it Fūryū? No, Miyabi?! So anyway, that was my commute to work. I was just doing an assignment too where I had to draw hair flowing in the wind; I couldn’t help but think that the wind was somehow literary blowing inspirat...

Here’s my dormitory diary entry for October.
There’ve been times recently where I get a bit chilly on my commute home — it’s starting to feel like the end of Summer. My local supermarket started selling Sanma, a kind of mackerel we have here in Japan that’s supposed to represent “the taste of autumn.” I’d always wanted to buy some but couldn’t bring myself to do so in the end (it’s freaking expensive!)
I got t...

Hello, it’s Kim.
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for October.
Summer has passed us by and now I’m occasionally needing to wear long-sleeves to go outside.
As is customary in Summer, I tried to wear short-sleeves for a while, but it got so cold that I’d sometimes need to go home and change.
Now that the cold days are coming, I wanna be extra careful about taking care of my health.
I’m going to a trade school reunion soon to finally meet up with some of m...

This is Yamaguchi.
I recently went with a friend to a university animation exhibit to see some of the students’ work.
Each piece had it’s own distinct flavor which myself and the friend I was with exchanged opinions about. It was actually rather exciting.
I came to see a lot of opportunities for reflection in my own work and got more of a desire to create more stuff independently.
Part of me wants to just completely relax on my day...

Recently, I’ve gotten more opportunities to work on shows with a higher line count. The difficulty of animation goes up with the line count, but so does the feeling of accomplishment when you finish. (lol)
Also, recently I’ve been getting some (questionable?) keyframes which has put me in sort of a mood (I think they were done overseas). If a character is missing some accessories b...

I watch the elementary and middle schoolers get out from school and head to their club activities and it reminds me that Summer is about to come to an end. Hey, Ura here. This is my dormitory diary entry for September.

Hello, Sakamoto here.
This is my dormitory diary post for September.
It finally happened. Someone at my studio got COVID so I had to stay at home for a while. We all had to be tested immediately and I came up negative with no signs of wear on my body, so that was nice.
Recently, I'd gotten some more opportunities to do contract work outside of our in-house projects, but the deadlines were all so close to each other that I had to pull my first all-nighter. I stayed up for 2 d...

I haven’t been the dentist in about 2 years, so I’m thinking it’s about time I go. That said, I'm still somewhat hesitant. I thought about going this month as one of my friends didn’t go to the dentist for just 6 months and ended up with 3 cavities.

This is Yuto Aoki with my dormitory diary post for the beginning of September.
September has brought with it cooler nights. Recently, I’ve even been getting chilly on my commute back home. This sort of weather (warm in the day and cold at night) calls for camping, or maybe fishing at the river!
Speaking of the seasons, about what time do the cicadas start to sing again?
I love the sound of cicadas. I can’t wait until they come ...

I recently got the opportunity to talk with a friend of mine who got hired at a different anime studio than me.
I’ve always thought they were a good animator because their drawings are so good despite their pen strokes being so fast, but they actually told me that they were considering changing jobs.
Hearing this reminded me of how high the turnover rate for animators is.
Even though she has her dream job and can draw...

The weather’s getting rather cool during the night. I can finally walk home without breaking out in sweat halfway through my commute!
Personally, I’m very happy about it!
On the work front, I finally got my name into the credits of a show!
Though, it’s a bit jarring seeing the cuts I did. So far, my work only appears on screen for a brief moment.
It reminds ...

Hello, Kim here.
This is my dormitory diary entry for September.
I plan on making a trip back to my family home in Korea for a vacation how that I’m no longer quarantined when I go between Japan and Korea.
I haven’t been able to see my family in about 3 years since, right after I got to Japan, COVID-19 broke out and made me unable to leave.
I’m currently busy dealing with immigration and everything that needs to be done before I can take a vacation.

This is Yuta Aoki with my dormitory diary entry for the beginning of August.
This month, I was able to take some days off and go back to my family home in Nigata after a long while in Tokyo!
The comfortability I feel at my family home isn’t even comparable to anywhere else. I got to take it easy and just relax.
A heavy rain warning was issued in Tohoku right as I arrived back to the Kanto area though which was surprising, but fortunately, ...

Every year around this time my stomach gets chronically upset. That’s probably due to too much time spent in front of air conditioners mixed with a massive water intake.
Hey, it’s Ura.
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for August.

My frame count for last month was 190!
A lot of my cuts were pretty simple, so I got close to 200 frames! There’s still a lot I can work on to improve my drawing speed though, so I’m gonna be focusing on that this month.
Some of the cuts I did have been rolled out officially and put on air (albeit gradually), but it’s awesome to see what few cuts I did on TV as the sh...

Many apologies for the late update. Shimai here.
There’s so much to do and learn every day, sometimes I don’t finish work until the last train of the night is about to depart. When I get home, I fall into bed and pass out like I just got hit over the head with a frying pan.
It’s not like my work is particularly taxing physically, but keeping my brain running on full power for such a long period of time is starting to catch up to me.
From doing my working my assignments...

Daily life continues. I leave for work before noon and draw until the dead of night. I’ve only just started my career but I can already feel my muscles stiffening up from the lack of movement. (Whoops)
I wanna put more effort in, but I probably need to workout more before I’d be in a position to do any more than I am.

Hello and thank you for your support. This is Kuroda.
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for August.
I’m still trying to find my routine. Between sketching and reproducing sketches, my time management is all off balance. It’d be ideal to sketch at a regular, fixed time every day but…that’s harder than one might imagine.
My wake-up time and sleep time changes with the seasons which is far from ideal. I’m looking to establish a good sleep routine that fits my life and...

I’ve been practicing drawing on my computer here and there recently to learn all the different short cuts and key binds of digital software.
The most I’ve ever used a computer for work is saving my drawings and managing files which I just click around for.

Hello, this is Kim.
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for August.
I had a part time job while I was in university which kept me active and used to using my body, but now that I sit and draw all day, I haven’t been moving as much which has brought me a bit of pain in my neck and hips.
I’m trying to exercise before it gets any worse, so I’m taking the stairs instead of the elevator when I go to and from work, and I go shopping at a supermarket that’s further away from ...

Hello, Sakamoto here.
This is my dormitory diary entry for August.
As the weather gets hotter, so does my house. As the house gets hotter, the flys seek refuge inside. It might have something to do with the fact that I’m right outside of a veritable garden, but still.
About my work, I’m animating in analog right now, but I asked the studio head to let me know if there’d be any opportunities to do digital animation sometime around June since that’s more my wheelhouse....
