Sewing a Prop from Vinyl

Hi everyone!

I understand this meme fad may have passed, but I still spent time making a tutorial at the time, anyhow since I do not plan to make any more of these props. "Forbidden Fruit" was a meme that reached its peak in December 2017/January 2018, it made me laugh, so I decided to make a prop for it.

While this tutorial shows the step-by-step creation of one of those forbidden fruit-shaped props, the techniques can be utilized to make ANY interesting see-through ...

Here is a screenshot of all the content I created in the session, these are all photos, and the blue highlighted ones are all videos, that I produced for a drafted-from-scratch puffy paw tutorial.

Video Tutorial: Machine Sewing Small Spots in Faux Fur

This is a real-time demonstration of how to sew a small spot with a sewing machine. The spot shown is about 2 inches big.

In my time assisting others online, I end up encountering many people who are not as willing to utilize a sewing machine for small details – I want you to have the confidence to try! A needle down button (a feature of many newer sewing machines) really does help, but you can certainly hand-crank the needle into the down position as well, each time you make your turns...

Hello everyone!

Thank you all for your awesome support! I just arrived home from Further Confusion 2018, and I saw many of you in person there! It was so wonderful to attend and have the opportunity to sell there. I sold out of the "forbidden fruit" fursuit props and the one I donated to the charity auction during FC Unleashed went for $120 to their charity, Silicon Valley Pet Project and The Dancing Cat!! Its been really great.

As I promised to many of you in person, the pat...

Video Tutorial: Topstitching Vinyl to Get Smooth Curves

This is a useful technique for sewing vinyls. Such as marine vinyl or other vinyl types that get a deep crease when sewn normally.

In fursuit costume construction, this technique is very useful for creating rounded noses, rounded or shaped paw pads, big claws that are rounded, and other features that are intended to have a smooth curve.

This technique makes any deep cre...

If you follow my Twitter you will know I had a trip to the ER and emergency surgery only a few weeks ago in late Sept. I appreciate everyone who sent me good thoughts well-wishes, thank you!

Stickers restocked in my etsy shop!!

My etsy shop has been updated with my current stock of vinyl stickers!!

Some designs will be discontinued in their current form when they sell out. Also to make my life a bit easier I will be switching to Black, White and one metallic color (twitter voted it to be Metallic Gold!) as my colors for the new restock of stickers for this upcoming convention season. So this may be your last chance to get a few limited sticker designs and some designs in a wider variety of colors!

Inking with a Lightbox

I am experimenting with my video setup, using equipment I already have.

This is a short Work In Progress peek at how I do my inking for real media conbadges. I do a sketch separately in pencil and then ink it using a light box for a totally clean coloring surface when its ready to be colored.

The sketch is on regular printer paper, the paper I am putting the ink on is 110lb cardstock.

I am using two sizes of inking pen in this demo, Micron 08 and Micron 005. This cartoo...

Video Tutorial: Sewing Double Fold Bias Tape

Bias tape is a type of binding that you can add to your projects to finish them off professionally. It is cotton fabric cut on the bias (diagonal grain) so it has a stretch to it, but its not too stretchy.

It is ideal for finishing off cuffs, necklines, and other areas of a fursuit costume (or other projects!!) to prevent the raw edge from being exposed and potentially unraveling or stretching. It really only takes a few minutes to apply bias tape for a lasting and professional-looking finishe...

Video Tutorial: Hiding Seams in Short Fur

This is a special sewing technique best used on Seal, Beaver, and other SHORTPILE types of faux fur. It is a way to hide seams in fur that is easy to brush out of a seam, but suffers from that little visible seamline that longpile furs don't get when sewn traditionally (with the fibers tucked away from the seam).

The concept of this technique shown is you intentionally trap the fur in the seam when pinning/clipping together the fabric. Sew it with a long straight stitch, and then brush i...

Revised Tutorial: Body Padding!

I've been busy revising some tutorials this month! I have been meaning to give more attention to this one since it totally needed it! This is not the first time this tutorial has been revised, and probably not the last -- I'm always working on honing my techinque for body padding and I have learned a lot since the last time I wrote on the topic. This guide has expanded text in nearly all areas.  Some things have been added for clarity, but many more things have been added since I learned ne...

Revised Tutorial: Comprehensive Fursuit Washing and Care

My tutorial on fursuit washing and care has been revised to be even more comprehensive than before! Added is a segment on washing fursuit heads, and I have expanded the text for clarity on nearly every section. I also took the time to link examples of all the products I mentioned in the tutorial to matching items on amazon.com at the bottom. It is something I have been meaning to do for a while and will try to accomplish for future guides as well.
