As mentioned before, I'm on a short hiatus but it doesn't mean I am not drawing any ponies! And I wanted to share with you this WIP for the upcoming Book 5 cover art I started on Saturday's stream.
This technique is about painting B&W first to focus on values and applying colour later on a separate layer, with all pros and cons that come with it.

A note from the author regarding Luna's advice.
There were so many angles to tackle this difficult subject. But Lullaby's age puts a limit on more in-depth philosophical answers Luna could have provided and frankly no amount of “death makes life precious” would be comforting to a frightened 6-year-old. It's October, so naturally the bonus art is Nightmare Night/Halloween-themed... I'm sure Thistle had fun helping Lullaby to prepare the costume and asking Fizzy in advance to take Lulu thrick-or-treating to the nearest town.
Fun fact: we didn't knew much about All Hallows' Eve when I was a kid - instead there was traditional magic and fortune-telling evening the night before Saint Andrew's Day. I think I will dedicate November bonus art to that one :)
