Max could hear the murmurs and whispers of all the merfolk sitting on the floor and seats near them, discussing what he had just told them.
Even the council members took a moment to consider his story of meeting and defeating Jalnig Nuk.
“If he could withstand our King’s attack, surely that gives us hope.”
“Riletta, he can only fight once, and the other two must also win. How long has it been since that has happened?”
“Still this gives...

“That was disappointing,” Tanila said as she watched the carcass of the kraken she had killed on her own sink into the waters.
“And now we’re complaining about how easy that was,” Batrire teased. “Still, you’re right. None of those were as big as that one boss and both you and Cordellia made their life difficult after taking out their eyes.”
“Bah, easy she says,” Fowl muttered as he yanked a segment of a tentacle off his plate armor. “Try getting hugged by on...

“A whole day,” Thorodd muttered. “I can’t wait till we have to do this again.”
“Would you rather not have the trophies and reagents?” Einar asked as he watched the last barrels get tied down. “You and I both know we can’t stay here any longer either. The smell is already drawing wildlife and we don’t want to have to deal with another event like last time.”
His second in command grunted, bobbing his head.
“I’ll take care of the stuff back here. Get u...

“I feel like Everetts called us into his office,” Fowl stated as he sat at the table with the rest of the party.
Max could see that everyone but Tanila looked slightly frustrated, having been summoned, as their archer had called it, a little bit ago.
“I’m not going to beat around the bush. None of us acted how we should have yesterday. How I left was uncalled for and for that I’m sorry.”
Fowl started to speak, but he cut him off with a raised hand.

In the middle of the road, two figures stood in white robes, branches sticking from their hair. Thorve and Kojala looked like spirits, each having painted their face white. On their left cheek was a red handprint, made from blood. On the other was a black one, matching the one eye to represent what Odin had lost.
Flames rose high into the night sky, where the pyre burned with fury, the logs drenched with alcohol as an offering.
A nod from Thorve sent ...

“Finally,” Fowl muttered as everyone stared at the portal in the chamber before them.
“Yeah, because a large room like this with nothing but it can’t be bad, can it?”
Their warrior gave Cordellia the middle finger as they stood just outside the entrance to a two-hundred-yard circular cave.
Thick, slimy mud caked each of them. Eventually, they gave up trying to clean it off, unable to prevent the stuff from finding its way onto their armor and clothes. It was only w...

“That was disappointing,” Dagon complained as he looked at the five of them. “You didn’t press the attack at all. All you did was create a battle of attrition with someone you must have realized by now heals on their own. Why?”
“You said it already,” Fowl replied. “The damage from your aura kills them if they hit you too hard. Poison didn’t work and all we could do was try and see how long you could last.”
The King’s frown lessened slightly as he ...

Einar’s imagination had failed him. What he had thought the giant would look like and what it did were not close at all.

“You two need to take a break!” Dagon shouted as he moved toward Tanila and Max. “Neither of you realize it, but you’re caught in a loop that sometimes happens here.”
It took a little effort not to glare as Max watched the King walk toward him.
“What do you mean?”
“You’ve fought twenty times straight. Twice she came close, yet not once have you lost. Tell me Tanila Gilmenor, do you feel like you’ve improved.”
Her gold hair shimmered, a...

Max couldn’t help but grin as Dagon appeared through the door.
“Not even a day… I guess you really do like getting your arse kicked.”
“Actually, I have a favor, and these four are a bit anxious if you can’t tell.”
Motioning to his friends, Max waited until the King stood beside him.
“We talked last night after what you put me through, and we all realized they need to get better as well. It’s not like we haven’t trained before, but as you said,...

Max didn’t have a choice as the gigantic hammer swung, unable to dodge the first attack and unsure of what would happen if he blocked it.

The maximum distance of his ability was fifty yards, and Max used that to his advantage, putting space between them and letting Bob start the spell casting.

Max and the others sat in the chairs Dagon had offered them, and only two of his Elite Guards were in the room. They sat there, watching the dwarven King play with his beard.
“Already on the 62nd floor. That is impressive. And your aura is proof of that. How did the first floor treat you?”
“The choice of killing what we would call children?”
A slight frown appeared on the older dwarf's lips as he nodded slowly.

Both of his parents had similar expressions, each of them leaning forward on the couch.

Shaking her head, Stacy grinned at him.

He however could only grin as he sensed his sister moving around the small table between them, drawing closer and closer.

Faster than an arrow from a bow, Max sped toward the boss, his weapon out.
As he moved, it took on the shape of a long, two-handed sword, providing him with maximum cutting space.
Once again, he easily dodged the spells that had started coming toward him, large chunks of ice flying through the air and crashing into the mountain.
Bob controlled their movements, finding a little more room above the current horde of giants. They raced in the direct...

Max looked down as he took a few steps forward from where everyone was standing, moving toward the tall mountain pass that eventually disappeared into the clouds.
Along the snow-covered surface, a ring of energy radiated outward from it. Bending down, he used his hand to clear a path from what he sensed.
“What is it?” Fowl asked as he approached.
“A crystal ring like the one at the end of the previous floor… It feels… different.”
“In what way?”

The silence had been a bit awkward, yet Max never flinched. The three who remained with the greybeard stood there studying him.
His attempts at talking were cut off with a grunt and a single apology that they were not allowed to speak now that the elder was coming.
Minutes passed, and soon, a ten-foot goat-man, towering three feet over the rest, was approaching him. Even without the added height, the red hair and skin stood out compared to the tan or dark skin and hair.

Tall trees stretched upward over two hundred feet, their tops swaying slightly with a breeze that carried the sound and the scent of a proper forest.
“She’s right,” Tanila stated. “If you look at these and how close they are together, it’s not like the other forests we have fought in.”

“You’ve gotten far too good at that, my love,” she purred.”Keep that up, and you’ll be forced out of adventuring and made to do this full-time.”
Smiling, he leaned forward and kissed the back of her neck, his nostrils filling with the scent of her hair that hung over the front of her bare chest.

“As per your request, yes. He should no longer be traveling to that planet anymore.”
The slightest grunt came as Wekime bobbed his head once and then moved a piece on the game board before him. Hundreds of boards, each with thousands of spots, were connected. Some pieces vanished while new ones appeared. Occasionally, some seemed to defy logic, appearing on multiple boards simultaneously before disappearing from them all, only to make a new ent...

Resisting the temptation to change his mind, Max nodded.
“I’ll announce to the world that you will be the new champion. Then, by tomorrow evening, I shall have left this place. Tell me, Zogooruth, what do you fear?”
The aura that always radiated from the colossus faltered for a moment and then returned to normal. It was the only noticeable change Max could pick up on with his sonar.

The pressure was overwhelming the moment Max stepped through the portal that Quilazmore had created for him.
A shadow covered the arena floor, and he could sense the presence of something immense, far larger than any opponent outside of Igarra, which was over a quarter of a mile away. Power radiated from around where it was cloaked in a swirling vortex of some kind.

Hey all - Pretty excited with how things have been going this month. Got some good stuff on the horizon and sharing a few bits of info.
First - I know it sounds bad, but my sisters are helping me take a break, and my mom traveled to where they live this weekend. Going to really try to get back into the writing groove and get some words down during this time as I don't have to care for her on the day to day stuff.
Book 7 is doing great on amazon and book 2 of viking hits soon. ...

Max chuckled as their warrior and archer bantered back and forth, content to have his arm held by Tanila, gently rubbing her belly.
