Ultimate Level 1 - Chapter 105 - Always elves to fight

The crowd went ballistic when the announcement came that Max and Saevel would fight.

Standing there, Max saw how the worker looked at him as he bet his sixty gold with three-to-one odds.

“You realize you’re going to lose? I mean, you don’t stand a chance.”

Max shrugged his shoulders and grinned.  “Care to bet on that?”

A guard near him chuckled briefly before going rigid again as the worker glared at him.

“Just know, we appreciate your donation...

Fall of the Last Dragon Rider - 012 - When Life Hits Hard

The absence of vision made knowing what time it was difficult.  Not needing as much sleep amplified Kaen's frustration as he listened to Pammon.

You need to come with me.  Sitting here will do you no good.

“But if people see me, it will–”

It will be impossible.  I will not fly near the city.  For now, we need to get you out of here.  In a few hours, we can go pick up Ava.  She said she wanted to pack a few things a...

Watch your messages!

I'm slowly reaching out to members and sending a personal message to a few at a time, asking for specific names for characters within the stories you love.

Before you ask, I'm reaching out to those who have been with me for a long time and trying to thank you all as I can in this way.  It may take time, but I promise I'm wanting to make these moments special to all my supporters.

I'll still have times when I ask for Names (Stay tuned in coming weeks when I ask for a LO...

Ultimate Level 1 - Chapter 104 - Always bet on yourself

Disappointment filled Max, as it seemed many other fighters surrendered before they even took the field.  Aware that it could happen, the crowds were still upset because it meant no blood was spilled to satisfy their desires. It also meant they couldn’t bet on a match that never took place and they considered an easy win.

Alfred’s opponent never took the field, and as the man walked out there, waving and bowing as the crowd cheered and booed, it was evident Alfred was not happy...

Fall of the Last Dragon Rider - 011 - Consequences

The sleep that came was not restful, as Kaen repeatedly relieved his mistake.  Most of the time, he died.  Sometimes, Pammon died because of his choice.

When he woke up, covered in sweat, he immediately touched his face and felt a bandage over his eyes.

“Leave it alone,” Ava’s voice rang out. Father says it will help.  For now, just trust the poultice and rest.”

You are safe.  We are all here.

The Girl Who Killed a God - 030 Powerful Choices

Max and Marcus had spent some time discussing what would happen soon.  The red coloring of their entire face and the way their eyebrows were furled told Grace how angry they were.

She had helped a few of the other people from Marcus’s gang and was again overwhelmed by the number of people who quietly thanked her.

When Max began walking toward her, Grace sighed in relief, knowing she could escape for a moment.

“You look pissed,” Grace whispered as they walked away....

Ultimate Level 1 - Chapter 103 - It always gets worse

Max noticed that, once he returned to the group of fighters, everyone gave him a wide berth except for the female elf, who had chuckled when he spoke about the first match.

“Seth, right?”

Max saw the red-haired, elvish woman moving toward him and nodded.

“I’m Adaneth.  Impressive fight last round.”

Max shrugged but smiled.  “We both know that wasn’t true.”

She laughed, her voice echoing off the walls and momentarily drawing the guards' a...

Fall of the Last Dragon Rider - 010 - Always Listen to Your Dragon

Popping a cork off a potion, Kaen drank it, letting the injuries that were overwhelming him go away in the silent yell that always came.

We should consider that we have done enough and go.

Kaen glanced at the field. The sun was up, and there were countless corpses in piles surrounding him.  The creature he had just killed was nothing he had ever heard of before, and as he drew closer to the castle, two more stood near the gate, chained and appearing ready to ...

Thank you for letting me sleep.  I can’t believe I slept that long.

Pammon said nothing, but Kaen could feel the affirmation of his comment through their bond.

How long will it be till we reach the border of the area we know?

We will arrive a few hours before the sun rises tomorrow.  How far do you want to explore?

We have to search until we find it.  Otherwise, we are wasting time and leaving our people defensele...

Ultimate Level 1 - Chapter 102 - Fighting for gold

Max stood among a crowd of at least two hundred other fighters.  Each Level had its own section, and Max was surprised by how many men and women showed up for the lowest bracket.  The level twenties had at least fifty fighters, all ready to die for a chance of money they could never expect to make elsewhere.

The roars of the crowd above shook the room he was in.

He watched the other fighters that were in his section.  Some wore their armor, while others were like hi...

Opening her eyes, Grace saw a red screen begging for her attention.

Waving Hess’s attempt to pour him a cup of watered-down wine, Kaen sat in a chair, glancing around the rare empty room of the Dragon Rider’s Inn.

“Why are you out here?” Kaen asked, noticing how age had finally caught up with his dad.

“The office is stuff, and when I sit out here and close my eyes, I can remember the good times we have had here.  I remember the day we arrived in town and sat in that booth,” Hess stated, pointing at the one booth that had never cha...

Max pulled out a piece of paper and wrote down the two skill choices.

Fowl and Tanila scrunched their faces and shook their heads, neither knowing what the armored warrior offered.

“I know this will give you something,” Tanila whispered as she pointed at the words ‘poison resist.”  Glancing around the room, she leaned closer.  “At the final rank, you are basically immune to any of that.”

“The other is nothing I have heard of,” Fowl added.  “I...

Kaen infused his arrow with power and sent it flying down into the tunnel.

The explosion shook the rocks he was standing on as he hopped down as quickly as possible.

“You three ready?” Kaen asked as he looked at them, each wondering what had taken him so long.

They nodded, and Frederick moved to the front, holding up the one light stone they had left.

We are on our way.

After crushing rocks for an hour, Kaen felt everything was in place.

The others were awake, amazed at how Kaen had never slowed down.  Each strike of his hammer was deliberate and precise, rocks cracking and shattering under the force.  Yet none of the strikes broke more than it appeared Kaen wanted.

“We need to back up. This might cause a rock slide.”

Seventy yards away, Kaen pulled out his bow and infused the arrow nocked with magic.  It grew bright, mai...

Grace moved quickly and took the lantern upstairs.  No one was up there, so she blew it out.

Scanning the room, she saw a knife on a table and grabbed it, moving toward the window on the side of the house. Since it was on the second floor, no bars kept her from using it, so Grace slowly lifted the window.

Peering out, Grace saw nothing to worry about landing on, and in a few seconds, she was on the ground, running toward the houses a bit away.

Fall of the Last Dragon Rider - 005 - Underground Troubles

Kaen watched as the ogres chased after his men, running backward and trying to keep as much distance as possible.

The only good news was that most orcs and goblins had not followed them. The large clumps of their dead allies convinced them not to chase unless a stronger ogre made them.

Sheathing his sword and swapping it for his bow, Kaen sighed.

Eight arrows…

There was no other option, and he knew it. The distance to reach them before the ogres ran them dow...

The piles of bodies the three had created aided their defenses but had shoved them against the stone, unable to move or strike out themselves.

Frederick was in the middle, struggling to stand as a trio of orcs with spears overwhelmed his open side and landed strikes against his right leg.

The three of them kept fighting, knocking weapons away and focusing more on standing their ground while they waited for Kaen.

The hand still rested on his shoulder, and Max glanced up, seeing an older female elf, old enough, her face actually having wrinkles on it.
