“How the hell do you have a greater regeneration potion?” Miles asked, his voice waiver as they considered the guy before them.
‘Greater… regeneration potion?” Racha stammered as she looked between Miles and Max.
“It’s not what you think,” Max said as he raised his hands in the air.
“You’re a noble, aren’t you?”
Max turned and looked at Brutus, who almost appeared green for a moment.
“No! I’m not!” Max exclaimed as he took a step bac...

Max could see how the one called Brutus was looking at him. He could feel Brutus’s eyes scanning all of his armor and the bite marks the previous kobolds had left. Part of him wanted to hide behind his shield, hoping none of them noticed the teeth marks he had in the crotch area. He then made a mental note he owed Gerald a tip for making that area well-padded.
“You sure you really want to group with us?” Brutus huffed. “I’m not the best reader of ...

All night long Max tossed and turned in bed. The thought of joining a real group and getting a chance to see how it all worked was the only thing he could think about. Even the idea that they might get to take on the goblin boss was something he had never dreamed of. The truth was a week ago he would never have wanted to do such a thing.
When the light orb came on as he had scheduled it to, he put his gear on, grabbed his supplies, and headed downstairs to eat breakfas...

Both women dared not look up, their heads pressed to the cold stones of the room. It had nothing to do with desiring to look up. They couldn’t even move enough to shake in fear.
They had been sitting in their throne room discussing matters of state when they saw the black portal open. Both had just enough time to rise and throw themselves down the steps toward the ground, ignoring any possible injury that might come from it.
Thankfully, they had reached the floor before he had f...

“What the hell was that?” Max asked himself out loud when a blue billowing cloud of dust washed over him, continuing past him through the forest.
Glancing around him, he finished cutting off the ears of the two goblins he killed.
God, I love this shield!
It was well worth all the metal scraps he had acquired yesterday while killing goblins. Playfully kissing the lip of his metal shield, he thought about Sherry and how proud she seemed when she handed it to him. ...

Max took a few deep breaths to calm himself.
Staring at the notifications and his improved stats, he felt overwhelmed with how his skill seemed to work.
Since he was full health it made sense he hadn’t gained any hit points back.
But why no stamina… was it because the goblin had ran out? Perhaps I can only consume so many things at once or maybe it’s really random.
Max decided it would be better to consider that later as he had already been attacked once...

The goblin was easily a foot taller than the other two, basically as tall as Max was and a lot more muscular.
Max winced from the pain as he shifted, knowing he was bleeding and he needed to find a way to kill one of these three soon.
With their broken sticks the two waved and pointed at him, cackling and baring their teeth. As they danced in the shadows of the limbs above them, Max heard a bark of some kind from the larger one and both of them moved off to the sides a little bit,...

Max found himself grinning even though his hands were clammy as he scanned the job board in the adventurer’s guild house. Most of what he saw were either herb and mushroom collecting quests as well as some goblin quests.
The dungeons to the south continually spawned goblins in randomly sized groups within a certain distance of the entrance. The only time a dungeon would stop releasing them was when a party defeated the boss. From what the book stated only so many goblins could be crea...

The metal token with his name and rank stamped on it and his class [Spear Warrior] brought a smile Max hadn’t expected to come. He was standing here just a few days after his life, and all his plans were ruined. The woman he expected to marry had run off without looking back. His parents and sister would be shunned for a while since he would be listed as unskilled.
Worse for him was the taste in his mouth about how the advisors had treated him. He had no doubts they were going to kill...

Tharnok said you have more honor than most dragons and owes you.
Kaen could feel the immense pride that gave Pammon to hear Tharnok speak of him like that. Both had learned a lot by flying and talking with the older dragon. Two hundred-plus years of experience was drilled into them daily by a dragon that didn’t take crap and ignored excuses.
I cannot believe he allowed the king to hold his rider hostage like that. Tell me you would not have...

Elies stood there, looking different yet still barely a shadow of his former self. Kaen could not believe how much the man had changed in just a few hours.
“I know I should tell you thank you, but I am still at a loss on what I should say,” Elies said after having stood quiet for so long. “It had happened so many years ago. I allowed my friendship with him to weaken me, and once he had bound me, both Tharnok and myself were collared like dogs.”
A growl sp...

Pammon thrummed as Kaen watched Huethea approach him. She had no problem tossing her rank and position around at him. Where other elves had been reserved in demanding things because he was a dragon rider, she felt it was okay to play the my dad is the king card every time she saw him.
“Rider Kaen, you are late,” she informed him with a look of frustration obvious to anyone who saw her. “We have been waiting for well over an hour in the throne room.  ...

Pammon immediately dropped altitude as the horde of Teratas converged on them.
Fourteen left. I’m rolling soon.
Clenching his stomach, Kaen prepared for the spin move they had practiced more times than he wanted to remember.
As Pammon spiraled through the air, he leaned backward and let an arrow go. Drawing another arrow, he watched as the closest Teratas took the arrow through its long, leathery neck and flopped wildly.

“You are lucky he beat me here, boy!” shouted Stioks over the wind.
Each of the three dragons hovered in place, beating the wings to stay aloft as they all faced each other. Kaen and Pammon were off to the side of Elies and Tharnok, staring at the massive black dragon that seemed happy to display his huge mouth full of teeth.

Max found himself asking for more directions every few blocks as he kept getting distracted by the buildings and businesses in the city. Sure, his hometown of Alundra was larger than this town, but all this was new. Windsor Wheel did a lot of trade and basic supplies because of the dungeons to the south of it. He remembered hearing about the two lower-level ones, which meant a steady influx of lower-level adventurers.
He would, at some point, need to make his way to Ru...

It was hard to believe one could feel great after sleeping in a tree. When the birds started chirping as the sun rose, Max stretched and glanced down at the low light of the fire beneath him.
He had moved all four goblin corpses far enough away last night that he didn’t smell them. Even the ears he now had in his pack didn’t stink just yet. He touched his bare arms and chuckled, having cut off the sleeves to wrap the ears in before putting them inside his pack. &nb...

The tree swayed from the forceful winds blowing right now. Sounds similar to the ones he had heard the night before rose from underneath him. Looking down, Max woke up to the sight of four goblins sitting around his campfire.

The sound of something beneath him woke Max up. Noises and grunts were coming from under him.
Trying not to fall out of the tree Max was sleeping in, he leaned his head over and saw two goblins examining the camp he had created, scratching around the log and sniffing for him. The smoke hid his scent as the two of them padded around the fire.

November is the Write-A-Thon (gosh this thing and how to actually spell it).
I have a story I'll be doing as I write book 2 to help me with 'plotting'
For those who don't know, most authors are either plotters or pantsers.
I'm more of the pantser. 90%+ of book 1 was Pantsed. Book 2 is 80% with a few specific points, set for me to hit (but my brain / imagination takes me from point to point).
Book 3 has some specific goals to accomplish and I want to i...

Also don't forget if you are willing, give me any advice / tips / fixes you think are worth looking at for book 1. I got my Publisher ...

Again thank you to each of you who support me.
I would love to hear your feedback on book 1. You can be brutally honest.
In 2 weeks I get the official edit suggestions (plus all the grammar) back. I have made some changes on the RR side to earlier chapters.
If you are willing what 'change' or fix might make the story better (obviously a full re-edit isn't possible for some major things) but some stuff is.
Ty again! 7 days till Book 2!
